I live in South Florida. A Cat #1 is not bad overall, but the wind will take out trees, old bad roofs, and power lines that are not up to date such as all of California's dilapidated power grid. Flooding can be bad depending on how much rain it brings. Water and dry food is best, batteries and lanterns, and safe candles are good too. God bless.

To be honest, I was getting hyped, because I was thinking it was really going to be a crazy event that California has ever seen. I even drove through it on Highway five. It had somewhat hard rain, but that was about it. A lot of lightning strikes everywhere which looked really cool. But again that was about it.
The governor should declare a "state of emergency" for Cailfornia but it is not due to some stupid hurricane! This storm is the least of the state's problems!

The speed of a storm tracking is different than the wind speed. Like here in Minnesota a storm can be traveling relatively slow but then a tornado or winds can be insane knocking down trees or branches. But yes they overhyped some hurricanes

The ground in Houston can absorb water. The desert ground can't so we get huge flooding from very little rain. Desert ground is mostly caliche which is hard pack clay. Many of our roads aren't well graded for water either. This will be a mess.

The ground in Houston can absorb water. The desert ground can't so we get huge flooding from very little rain. Desert ground is mostly caliche which is hard pack clay. Many of our roads aren't well graded for water either. This will be a mess.
