I know we all want to save money, but nice fixtures are very pleasing on the eye, such as lighting and faucets, quality fixtures make a huge difference, you normally only buy them once, such as door handles and kitchen faucets, it sure makes a difference, our house had cheap fixtures and we slowly spent a lot of money upgrading them all. I converted all of our old school recessed lighting to led, your house being so new, you won`t have that problem, yeah, the finish work takes the time, but it`s coming along, after the drywall sanding and paint, the place stays pretty clean, dust came out of our furnace for a month, all the best to you guys.
If you're wanting a unique floor downstairs, you could go with brick that's sealed. I have it in my living room and kitchen and it's great for holding heat in the winter.
Before your locks freeze squirt a little oil, it really doesn't matter what kind, in the key hole and down in the top and it will help with the ice. I work for a railroad and that is what I do for our locks in the winter.
Happy New Year! If it’s at all possible have your floors installed prior to trim. It just saves the flooring contractors from undercutting all the jambs. Etc.
The Pit Boss is a nice grill. I've had mine for several years. One thing I know is that you definitely need to keep the firebox cleaned out. We absolutely love the grill and use it all the time. Not just for smoking meats. We fire it up for burgers, steaks, anything really. Food just taste so much better on wood fire than on propane.
Happy New Year you two! So nice to see some progress going on, it's tough finding really good people to complete everything! We are really looking forward to our new build this spring! Take care and don't work too hard!
Have the same grill. Had overheating problems. Bought a new panel for it, works better now but still not perfect. So might be my only experience this company. Glad you’re feeling better.
First Aussie 😁. Ryan, it’s all happening at the lawn ranch homestead. Wishing you a happy New Year , I wish yourself and your wife good health, laughter and lifelong good memories on your journey onwards. 🤠
I can’t wait to see the finish work! I had a concrete floor in my main level that I just covered with water proof laminate. It looks great, but one thing I didn’t consider is how much nicer it feels to walk on. It has a little give, which has made a big difference over time.
It is hard to live through a reno. hang in there it is looking good! Regarding the pad lock that keeps freezing spray the key hole and locking mechanism with WD40 and that should keep it from freezing up.
Recently found your channel and find your videos so interesting. I thought the landscape looked like Iowa. Happy (belated) New Year from a fellow Iowan!
Fantastic update Ryan. Glad you are feeling better and making great progress. Happy New Year to both of you. Based on the wet weather we’re experiencing in Northern California this winter, I’d plan on more snow and cold weather.
Happy new year. I’ve done commercial cleanup and drywall dust is difficult. I’ve used floor cleaning machines and they made it easier. When the time comes to clean your windows, squeezie is the best.
Good luck Ryan! Moving is a pain for sure! Enjoy your snow when it comes, we now have to take vacations to get our kids into snow that they grew up with. Looking forward to seeing your progress here in the coming season. 😊
I feel your pain on the drywall dust. We finished our basement several years ago and I swear I'm still cleaning up the dust! Hope you can get all the finishing work completed soon so you guys can get moved it. Looking forward to future updates, and Happy New Year!
Sorry you are having issues with condensation at the windows, that should not be happening. Out here in NY, our residential code, which is based on the International Residential Code, requires that if a new home that is leak tested at less than 5 air changes per hour it requires a whole house ventilation system, sized as per code, to introduce outside air into the home to avoid issues similar to what you are experiencing. You should make sure the HVAC contractor made provisons for a system such as an ERV or HRV to introduce fresh air into your home and that it is sized appropriately. Everything is looking great, glad you are enjoying the new house and garage. Good luck!!
That water pipe for that water trough is interesting. You don't have an old hidden well out there somewhere do you? USGS has a website that lists old wells going back a hundred years. More likely, somebody was pumping from that creek at one time. Who knows. Metal detector time? Chase that pipe around. Treasure hunt!
Having flashbacks to our renovation. Added a 2nd story to our house and with a 1 year old, we decided to move out to an apartment while the work happened. We started in December 2019 and we're scheduled to be complete in April 2020. Well, we all know what happened by March 2020! Left the apartment and moved into what little livable space there was, just like you guys. Those were some long and uncertain days. While it seems slow now (and it is), just know by spring and next summer that your dream home will be done and it will have all been worth it!
Happy New year Ryan and Kelsey and of course the wee dogs. Glad you are feeling better too and managing a bite to eat off the chunk of meat Lol. I agree pity about the snow.
Been with you since the front lawn at the old place was long....expect to be with you until I get tossed into the furnace...so look forward to many more lawn lessons...
Ryan, love seeing the process of your new home and property develop over time. Looks like it will incredibly beautiful when all complete. On another subject, I know your good friends with the lawn Rebel. He has not posted any new videos for quite some time, do you have any knowledge why he is not posting videos recently? Thanks
The building is looking good! I know you are looking forward to getting into the main house.Beautiful camera work. You are quite talented!! P.S> The doggies look happy too... :)
It's problematic to do interior construction during an Iowa winter due to the high levels of moisture being added inside the home. It's good that you're on top of that. The commercial dehumidifier was the right call. I've seen black mold on framing and drywall in cold snaps because the house can't be opened up to let moisture out. My son is a trim carpenter and lives in Dallas County so send me a message if you run out of options. I know his builders have slowed down on their builds so he may be able to fit you in. He's been doing that work for over a decade and almost all of it is new construction. My wife and I will happily come over and help harvest those black raspberries. 😁 I don't mind the scars. We go up to the Berry Patch Farm south of Nevada every year to a few gallons. People that think raspberries are only red don't know what they're missing. I drove up to Minneapolis yesterday and the snow, especially in Iowa, along I-35 was black from all the topsoil. Looked terrible, and kind of depressing. Hopefully this rain will wash that away and we can go back to some clean(er) snow in the coming weeks. Drywall dust is like talcum powder. It's ridiculously fine and sticks to everything. Seeing you with the mop reminded me of me when we built our house. I was obsessed with keeping the job site clean and as dust free as possible. It was quite a battle.
You gotta put vinyl plank down. From the first time you said you were keeping the concrete I thought this. Walking on concrete is so hard on your joints and is always cold, nice in the summer but not so much. Plus as everything settles you'll get cracks. I notice you have a decent amount of stress relief grooves in there so might not be an issue. Just my 2 cents.
Seeing your Westies is bittersweet. About 12 years ago we decided to get a Westie for our first family pet. Phoebe was beautiful, the kids loved her, she was my wife’s third child. After 2 years she wasn’t acting right one day so I took her to the vet. They called later the same day and said she had swallowed part of a chew toy and would keep her overnight for evaluation. They called back a couple hours later and said Phoebe had a seizure and passed away. Gut punch for us and the kids. A few years passed and we decided to get another dog but couldn’t get another Westie because of the memories. We ended up with a Chihuahua/Yorkie mix, a Chorkie. Sadie is absolutely my wife’s third child and she’s been a blessing for 11 years but we still miss Phoebe.
What?!? We didn't get to see you install that shower... or the floor in the bathroom? I almost feel cheated.... lol. Meanwhile, I'll look forward to watching your progress as your journey continues.
You need to install an HRV this will dry up all the moisture that you have. Your lumber will be moist for awhile. The home is so air tight. HRV should be installed in all moist areas like Bathroom, kitchen and laundry room etc. Your Heating contractor should know all this or your general would have said something to be added. It will save you lots of time and money.

The finishing touches are some of the most important things. Don't save the money on the stuff you will be seeing everyday.
You gotta love it when people put fake stone on mansions.
Winter exploration is the best. And no ticks!
Amen to that!
I thought about doing a similar build myself.A large open shop type space, with a loft style apartment in it.Thanks for the inspiration.
Looks good so far, i can't wait until you guys get settled in and start crankin out the content in the spring!
bonjour.je vous regarde depuis la france..bonne annee a vous .continuer a nous faire partager votre vie

Great drone shots.
Man, the stereo spread on that early acoustic piece was really cool. Loved how you built it and centered it at the crest.
Glad to see someone else recognizes that the shortest day of the year is behind us, #lawngoals aren’t far off!!!
Happy new year, Looking great! Keep it up. I vote polished concrete downstairs, especially because it’s heated.
If you're wanting a unique floor downstairs, you could go with brick that's sealed. I have it in my living room and kitchen and it's great for holding heat in the winter.
After that Midwest freeze, these 30-40 degree temps makes it feel like spring time! Looking forward to more progress on the house.
That's why I was wearing a t-shirt outside 🤣
Paint will be another high humidity project. Love the place!
Before your locks freeze squirt a little oil, it really doesn't matter what kind, in the key hole and down in the top and it will help with the ice. I work for a railroad and that is what I do for our locks in the winter.
3-36 lubricant is what locksmiths recommend.
Iowa is really beautiful
Happy New Year 😊
Living the dream!

I have a pitboss smoker. You have to keep the hopper area cleaned out every two or three uses or you will continue to have issues.
I love what you are doing keep up the good work and remember do it right the first time so you won't have to go back and do again
Happy New Year you two! So nice to see some progress going on, it's tough finding really good people to complete everything! We are really looking forward to our new build this spring! Take care and don't work too hard!

Really enjoying your video's! Happy newNew Year 🎉🎉🎉
I have the same pit boss. Outlets once got wet and jammed the auger. Been working fine since.

Thanks Ryan and Kelsey. Happy New Year from Muscatine.
Time to buy a Big Green Egg!
Put a box fan with a furnace air filter on it in the window, it'll capture a lot of the drywall dust.
Good luck Ryan! Moving is a pain for sure! Enjoy your snow when it comes, we now have to take vacations to get our kids into snow that they grew up with. Looking forward to seeing your progress here in the coming season. 😊

Two things tend to go wherever they want- water and drywall dust!
Happy New Year Ryan. Here's to a great 2023!

Dang, that BBQ pork and taters made my mouth water!!! Had me wishing I liked to cook and had a grill. LOL! 😋👅
Happy New Year to you both! 🎉
Is there a air exchanger built in for the upstairs?
Upgrade to a Camp Chef Woodwind, you won't regret it. And Kelsey won't have to repair it for you. :-) Go Vikes!
Any update on the area you seeded in front of your house? Did the grass take?
There was an update on my lawn channel a few weeks after planting. Since then it's been on and off snow

So sorry for your loss. They are a very special breed
idk if you mention it...Just wondering how much did it all cost?
Definitely put some kind of flooring down. Much easier on the back and legs and easier to keep clean.
What?!? We didn't get to see you install that shower... or the floor in the bathroom? I almost feel cheated.... lol. Meanwhile, I'll look forward to watching your progress as your journey continues.
Spray a little wd40 in the padlock to displace moisture🤙
I’m guessing windows are fine -too much humidity, not enough heat.
Nice progress guys. Have you already sold your old house?
Yep it's sold and we moved about a month ago
you are like me on that pitboss. everything goes to the left.
Yep! Haha
Might be time to check out Recteq grills…lol
