The building process is emotionally tough. Some weeks up, some weeks down. It's manic. Despite all the stress, I must say, though, things are looking great. You both have to be very proud, and you'll never take it for granted. Very happy for you both.
Word of advice on paint, if you're doing a custom mix to match the cabinets make sure you get extra for scuff/touch up repairs. And make sure you hang on to the card they'll give you for the mix they do (as well as what type of base you use). It's nearly impossible to match hue/tint etc. exactly the same without it and well worth the extra money up front to get extra and keep up with the mixing information. We had sold our previous place and wanted to do some touch-ups to the walls once we moved out and that little card (and getting the right base) was a huge help in making sure our touch-up work matched the existing paint.
Started watching your first vlog here this morning and couldn't stop. Watched them all. So enjoyed the journey with you both and appreciated you sharing your experiences with all of us. Looking forward to what's ahead. Thanks so much. Blessings!
Its just struck me that what I’ve learned from your videos is not just how to grow awesome grass or go about building a new home, but also how to really appreciate the world around me and take pleasure from the smaller things in life. I always feel more positive about the world after watching one of your videos, keep up the good work mate!
Oh we are so excited for you guys! It is always something huh? All is good!! Can't wait for the next video! So glad to see the dogs too! Big Hugs from Northern Idaho. Deborah & Paul
I've trimmed a few dozen houses and never once was painting started before the cabinetry and millwork was completed. Oh well, you'll know more on the next house. Seeing you walk through the woods reminds of what I've missed by not deer hunting the past couple decades. Beautiful and serene.
With the canning kitchen specifically we were hoping the cabinets could go up and no further painting would really be needed in there and the room could be close to finished. That was the only reason for trying that out but with the drywall fixes, not going to work out this time.
I have trimmed and installed cabinets always after painting. I find it easier but as long as it looks professional when it is done is all that matters.
Congratulations on all the progress! I just moved into a new house and have been painting like crazy. One recommendation I have is to get a Wooster Sherlock extension pole. It has been a life saver and makes it so much easier to paint, even in tight spaces. Best of luck!
Wow, theres never ending issues to be solved in a build like this, but your getting through it, the property is just as gorgeous in winter as it is summer. We bought new kitchen cabinets after we moved in, white laminent, with black and silver and gold accent granite, and I wish we would have never bought laminent, they are 4 years old now, the laminent is no longer stuck to the backside of the cabinet face, it`s not falling off, but when you rub your hand from the backside of the cabinet, to the face, you hear the laminent flap, like it is unstuck from the front on all the edges, you knowhow much cabinets and granite cost, so yeah, not thrilled with laminet, all the best to ya guys.
Kelsey we do not worry about you figuring a way to get up to those cabinets.....You are the most efficient and effective thinker I know. You will get there.....BUT if you get on a Library LADDER or something like that I ask you get RYAN when you do so to spot you PLEASE. The worst accidents happen on ladders when you under 6ft on a ladder.
Ryan thanks for those peace and tranquil moments.....We all enjoy them. That Pine Cathedral following the deer tracks......NICE!!!!!! Love all your filming efforts.....WELL DONE.
If you notice on the end of the paint roller handle it's threaded. Get an extension handle for that. Makes rolling 10x more fun and speeds up the job with much less bending and soar muscles.
Hey, awesome to see the progress. One thing I wanted to help and provide a tip was on the dishwasher in the canning room. Make sure it's used 1 time every 2-3 weeks. If dishwashers set for extended periods of time some of the rubber seals/gaskets can dry out. If this happens multiple times over a year or three, they can develop leaks and have issues.
Love following you. I am pretty new here and we are in a RV- building a large shed next door to extend our living but eventually we want a Bardo. Thanks for sharing your experience and love the beauty of your land!
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!! Thanks so much for sharing the ups and downs of your building journey! Hope everything turns out as well, if not, BETTER than expected. Take care.
Thanks Kelsey & Ryan. Still in St. Pete Beach, FL instead of Muscatine!! Thumbs Up! In the Spring, come by the Pine Creek Grist Mill in Wildcat Den State Park.
I'm liking the canning kitchen. I see you store your broom the way I was taught...bristles up so it doesn't destroy the shape and usability. My husband laughed at me the first time I told him how to store it but he now realizes I was right. Lol...Hey Ryan...do you know how to get the last word in an argument? Just say "Yes, dear" because anything after that is a whole new argument. lol We've been together 49 years (as of 3/17) and will be married 47 years the end of May. Loving watching your homestead come together. If you like watching other create theirs, go to "Good Simple Living" on You Tube and watch Jeremy & Melissa Souza (and their 4 children) create theirs in Northern Idaho. I've been following them and their builds for almost 2 1/2 years and it's amazing to not only see their progress but also watch their children grow up.
Thanks for the honest and openness of what the struggles are. We are a few months behind you in progress and are learning a lot from your video updates. Can’t wait to see it when it is all completed.
Wow what a week! Man the paint would have sent me over the edge :( Thanks for sharing! As far as the purple goes, we can only hope KOC finds a new aggressive DC that turns that ship around. SKOL
Would highly recommend an extension pole for painting - usually the end of the rollers matches the thread on broom handles so you might already have the tool for the job!
Will you be at the Iowa Wild game this Thursday against Coachella? I’ll be in town for a Telecom Networking Event and have tickets. If you’re there I’d love to get a pic with you and shake your hand… I’m MN born and raised!
Cheer a bit for my Komets as they visit your Wild this coming weekend. It's not the NHL, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. And looks like you have some pretty good seats.
Looks so beautiful in the snow. I feel your pain with the paint in the car. - I’ve heard that noise too and knew what I would find when looking in the back. 😀 can’t wait to see all the interiors coming together.
If you have more painting to do, I cannot tell you how much the Paintstick (Wagner brand or Homeright) will speed up painting and improve the overall coverage. It is well worth the small investment...I've had them for 25 years now, and I wouldn't paint without one.
I like your videos but is not it werid for your family you go everywhere with cammeras? It looks nice and fun in the end but how is it? I can't imagine how you live like that. Pocket full of batteries? Can't wait for spring mowing btw.
Nearly everyone has a cell phone and is using it to take photos and videos a lot of the time so it's not really very strange in this day and age in my experience.
Your dogs are so precious! Glad to see there is some progress. What if you used a light gray in the canning room so you wouldn't have to worry about matching the white? Don't work too hard and stay warm!! 🥶
Kelsey I am sure I can speak for most on here..........ALthough it was an Oh Sh** Moment the paint can rolling forward upon the had to brake drastically moment and falling and opening on to floor hand in paint this sucks moment is a THANK GOD to EVERYONE because it proves to us that we all want to ring that guy MURPHY's(LAW) NECK. So know it does not happen to just you it happens to all of us and right when you do not need it most!!!!
Sorry you’ve had so many bumps in the road recently. 😲 Regarding your paint in the car disaster, a friend of mine had the same thing happen to her and the paint store was found liable for not properly seating the lid back on the can after mixing the paint. (She is an attorney and had to sue the paint store - she won)! Hang in there; one day you will look back on these trials and hopefully laugh.
Hey Ryan & Kelsey, so nice allowing us to follow along the road with the build! I completely understand all the decisions that you guys have made and you have so, so many more to go! Good luck and don't work too hard!!

Or, if the info is on the can label, take a picture of the label before you get paint all over it.
That etech a sketch is a great gift. We've gone through about 4 of them for my 2.5 y/o daughter.
Ryan,🤞 words & music! Perfect together!
Started watching your first vlog here this morning and couldn't stop. Watched them all. So enjoyed the journey with you both and appreciated you sharing your experiences with all of us. Looking forward to what's ahead. Thanks so much. Blessings!
Ah Fulda, home of the widest streets in the US! Another great video as always, keep up the good work!
First Aussie 😁. Nice view from the lawn Ranch Homestead. Always great to catch up with family. 🤠
Yeahhhhhh Kelsey and Ryan!!!!!! A few Bumps but mostly good and Forward.
You need Books in your future. Love your videos and what a Beautiful Homestead

Great to hear!
Ryan, your filmmaking skills never disappoint. Whether it’s grass, home building, or music, it’s truly enjoyable to watch.
Oh we are so excited for you guys! It is always something huh? All is good!! Can't wait for the next video! So glad to see the dogs too! Big Hugs from Northern Idaho. Deborah & Paul
Looks so cold but also beautiful! Rare to have such a cold day in London! Keep it up Ryan and Kelsey, you are doing a great job!
A few weeks ago it was -40 so anything around 30F is great 😃
Nice progress! For the canning room-maybe try to find a stool that is also a stepladder and stool combo.
the lowes or home depot instock cabinets that ship that way are always damaged. been there before

I'm curious why wait? Wouldn't it be easier to paint before everything is up?
With the canning kitchen specifically we were hoping the cabinets could go up and no further painting would really be needed in there and the room could be close to finished. That was the only reason for trying that out but with the drywall fixes, not going to work out this time.

My dog would love all that land you have. He likes roaming free and hates walking on streets.
28 minute video?? officially my new favorite show now.
Congratulations on all the progress! I just moved into a new house and have been painting like crazy.

I think I could watch a channel of just the view of your sunrise and sunsets. What an absolute beautiful spot you have picked for your home !
Too bad for the Vikings, says a Packer fan😊
Same here as a Bills fan.
16:04 Walking through the trees reminded me a lot of Narnia. So cool. Hope to have my own land someday where I can do this when it snows.
I'd love to see your kitchen plus the living room I'm going to have a Ranch one built next to it a barn

Just amazing, to just get out and walk your property whenever you want must be so relaxing. I miss that
Oh, another beautifully produced video it shows off well on my 4k TV
LOVE watching these videos. Can't wait for the final walk through. God Bless you guys. It's wonderful to see your dream become a reality!
Love the Fulda stop. Good times aka Pirates Cove still pouring em cold.
Coming together!
Take care.
Great update ya'll! Everything is coming along, even though there's some obstacles! As always, thanks for sharing!!!
I recognized you going by cabelas in owatonna.
I gutted my home and lived in it while doing the reno. Projects are mentally exhausting. Hug your dogs and take care of each other!
Hey, you're sitting on the porch! Great video, as always.
Loving these style of videos. Keep them coming guys!
Love the journey. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks Kelsey & Ryan. Still in St. Pete Beach, FL instead of Muscatine!! Thumbs Up! In the Spring, come by the Pine Creek Grist Mill in Wildcat Den State Park.
Another great video I’m 50 miles west of Des Moines this last snow fall was so beautiful we got 6 inches I love Iowa
Yes. Just cracked a brew and looked for something to watch and relax and what do ya have it another great video 👍

Love to see it come together little by little. Hard to beat the quiet after a snowstorm
Thanks for the honest and openness of what the struggles are. We are a few months behind you in progress and are learning a lot from your video updates. Can’t wait to see it when it is all completed.
Love the videos, keep them coming! Great Job!
Wow what a week! Man the paint would have sent me over the edge :( Thanks for sharing! As far as the purple goes, we can only hope KOC finds a new aggressive DC that turns that ship around. SKOL

Always good to have a delayed Christmas. Keep the cheer going. Thanks for sharing with us.
Yeah no doubt! 28 minutes, your approaching Brady Bunch territory! Looks awesome
Or ‘This New House’ (PBS)
Better yet!
please buy an 2’-4’ extension painters pole. It will save so much time and a few bottles of muscle relaxers, your new home is beautiful ❤
What a week you guys had!! It can only go up!
We remodeled our kitchen and love our Viatera Everest quartz countertops, goes well with white painted cabinets. Thanks for sharing your journey!
🤦🏻♀️ had one of those weeks! Thanks for the beautiful video though and sharing the good, bad and ugly
That’s some skills right there the way she backed that truck in without clearing the windows lol
Will you be at the Iowa Wild game this Thursday against Coachella? I’ll be in town for a Telecom Networking Event and have tickets. If you’re there I’d love to get a pic with you and shake your hand… I’m MN born and raised!
Didn't make it to the game tonight but maybe next time!
I'm new to your videos, I've just seen a couple. Being from Iowa, I was just wondering what you do in case of tornado? Your place is beautiful!!!
We'll have a storm shelter inside of the shop. Thanks for watching!
My advice (for what it’s worth), go back and watch from the beginning. Definitely worth the time to take in the whole journey.
Looking forward to seeing it all come together 👍
Cheer a bit for my Komets as they visit your Wild this coming weekend. It's not the NHL, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. And looks like you have some pretty good seats.
You guys are living the dream. Thanks for sharing .
The home is looking amazing
So sorry for your luck lately!! It is looking amazing tho!! Great job both of you and everyone involved honestly!! I love it!!
For your high ceiling cabinets, you could look into installing some pull down shelves into them. I put some in our high cabinets and they work great.
Looks so beautiful in the snow. I feel your pain with the paint in the car. - I’ve heard that noise too and knew what I would find when looking in the back. 😀 can’t wait to see all the interiors coming together.

Coming together nicely. As far as the paint spill……like my mother always said…..it’s just a car.
Go buy a paint stick for ceiling and walls. It will save your back and going up and down the ladder. Much easier.
Can't wait till spring when you start planting grass for your lawn :)
It's coming along 😁😁😁😁
Love it
Walking thru those frozen trees, as i was waiting for a light post and a wardrobe door to appear
Gotta love a good Schell's product!
The snow balls 🤣🤣🤣☃️
I’m glad to see keystone made an appearance! 🍺🍺❤️❤️
Great drone shots!
envious
Your dogs are so precious! Glad to see there is some progress. What if you used a light gray in the canning room so you wouldn't have to worry about matching the white? Don't work too hard and stay warm!! 🥶
Yeah we might do that but have had a terrible time with picking a good gray in the past haha
A TruGreen ad on your channel. How do you feel about that?
Where did you get your windows?
Why the cabinet installer was wearing a go pro?
Do you plan on cutting out any unwanted brush in the winter/early spring before foliage comes back?
Yep
Sorry you’ve had so many bumps in the road recently. 😲 Regarding your paint in the car disaster, a friend of mine had the same thing happen to her and the paint store was found liable for not properly seating the lid back on the can after mixing the paint. Beautiful property Ryan, how many acres are you on? My future goal is to retire on some acreage with a barndo.
40
Nona and Pugsley are twins in the snow 😂😂😂❄️
Drone shots are spectacular! What drone are you using?
Air2s
just like a westie, has to sit on center hump to see out window while driving.
Go Griffins!!! lol really Lets GO RED WINGS
Just started watching and notice kids in the photo on the refrigerator but hadn’t seen them in the video. ??
We don't have kids
All I can say is thank goodness the dogs weren't in the back seat with the paint can!
That is a blessing!
Are Wild games usually that empty???? Where is Willi Plett when you need him??????
Middle of the day on a Monday so not a typical scenario
@@RyanKnorr ahhhh gotcha!!!! Makes sense.
Hey Ryan & Kelsey, so nice allowing us to follow along the road with the build! I completely understand all the decisions that you guys have made and you have so, so many more to go! Good luck and don't work too hard!!
As long as you didn't let that paint dry it would come up easily IF you had a Bissel Proheat with a hand held hose
Used a shop vac as much as we could
@Ryan Knorr I hope you don't have to replace the carpet - tip use plastic wrap to keep it from drying - I'm sure it's to late but for future reference
Ryan - Sorry my Jersey Giants beat your Vikings... Maybe next both our teams will go further!!
That’s a rough week. Nope the next week was way better.
As an insurance adjuster, Ryan this is a covered claim if you wanted to go that route. Lol . Sorry about that situation.
The carpet damage.
