I think Henning is brilliant. Saw him in South London and bought his DVD - "A Thousand Years Of German Humour". Got his card and hired him for a gig after a software development conference, and he actually came to the conference during the day and participated in some of the sessions. A very nice guy, too.
Agreed Jack, I laughed out loud. But each to their own. I love Henning some hate him. As long as enough people appreciate him so that he keeps going, it's all gravy :)
(guest) Hi,Robert. I wonder if you can help me, I am trying to find a recording by Henning where he is describing all the different types of Austrian (?) cakes , E.G., ".....mit marmalade, oder ohne marmalade...", etc., many combinations of ingredients, sounded very funny : it was on a BBC radio show.....any ideas please? Many thanks if you can help. Happy New Year 2016 !
stand up and a joke on the Austro Hungarian dual monarchy....only on youtube via Stewart lee...incomprable und ich bin auch mit dieser Kerl begeistert er turnt mich an...wirklich!
I was introduced to Henning on stints on Would I Lie To You and thought he was hilarious. I'm glad to see UA-cam videos with him, even if they are fourteen years old!
You're so right! I long for American humour in my life. My favourite jokes are these sort: My mom is from France and my dad is from Spain, so when I see a baguette, I don't know whether to eat it, or shove it up my ass! Gets me every time!
He's good! But he needs more time for the audience to understand his humor, it's all quite tongue-in-cheek, plays on words, and clearly half the audience just doesn't get it within the 5 mins. And I liked the timer, that was cute and very 'German', plus all the 'hence why it's funny' historical jokes too. He'd do better with more like 10-15 mins. Pity that these guys have so little time to make an impression, often at the start of the night, when the audience isn't yet 'warmed-up'.
I wouldn't blame the audience. This was a cold open. He's not doing a set. He's doing 5-10 minutes of new material with no real order to it. His job is to get people to pay attention to him and get in the mood to laugh, that's all. He's actually not supposed to kill.
@@joepusey1 He doesn't mention class, but your inference clearly shows you believe working class people can't be educated - shame on you for being so small minded.
I too saw this show last night and like Thom2509 I found him very funny. His comedy was very clever in a very sideways kind of way, and you had to see through the stuff that offend some. The stuff about Rhys Jones and the McCann's was what a lot of us think behind closed doors, he just had the balls to say it. Also if you go to events like this don't be surprised when you get offended it ain't TV
@nyc999 I dunno I like the Austrian joke because the punch line is obvious and immediatelt after the joke he explains it as funny by pointing to a different punchline.
saw henning support sewart lee last night and two people stormed out the room. he starts off slow and mild but the end of his set was shocking to a lot of people
@xexdx I was there as well. I personally found the shocking stuff very thought provoking, but I can see how people could find it hugely offensive. Also, the old man who shouted "You're losing your audience, you idiot!" was hilarious.
haha,. me too. At HFC? Weird choice of warm-up act though - half an hour of jokes about (among other things) Madelaine McCann and Rhy Jones, followed by Lee's act which included a long section about why it's not funny to mock a blind child.
Yeah, but what's the difference between Henning Wehn making fun of Rhys Jones' death, and Clarkson's style of "homour"? It's a weird conflict where so much of Lee's act revolves around saying it's not cool to attack and bully soft targets and justify it with the "it's just a joke" defence, when that's exactly what a lot of this dude's act was. It's not enough to just say "it's ok, he's one of ours" - it's either ok or it's not.
A lot of people saying "tough crowd", but honestly, he's done better. It all seemed like B-material. I doubt I'd have laughed much if I were there like.

'Yeah, because that joke is all about timing' deserved a ton more laughter.
Yeah that was the best one.
I haven’t realised this before but his stand ups are very political! People need to know their history 😂
@@ririko2210 it's also very intelligent stand-up
The joke about timing was incredibly sophisticated 😂
Henning is a true comedy genius. Ive seen him live 3 times, and he never fails to own the room.
Henning could say anything and I’d still think it’s adorable lol. He’s very endearing.
Yes, indeed!
“....that we Germans don’t have a sense of humour. I don’t find that funny.” 😂 That was genious...
Considering it's the Stewart Lee audience I can't believe it didn't get more of a laugh, I was nearly crying
Mark Pointer ... genius is pushing it, also the irony of you spelling the word genius wrong tickled me lol more than the joke if I’m honest
Lee and Henning... I remember them. The little one's developed an accent.
Good one :)
I thought it Vas lea und perrigs
Tough crowd. At least there was a modicum of laughter.
After Stewart Lee, I'd be asleep too. Love Henning
+Johnny N I'm not sure you understand the concept of a warm-up act.
tough crowd? tough comedian to laugh at
Agreed Jack, I laughed out loud. But each to their own. I love Henning some hate him. As long as enough people appreciate him so that he keeps going, it's all gravy :)
He has evolved so much. He is brilliant now, even here you can see his insight and intelligent references. Early days and glad Stewart brought him on
Poor lady at the front hadn't a clue what was going on.
one of my absolute favourite comedians at the moment! i'm blitzing through what little henning has available online.
Love the way you phrased that.
oh no...

+Robert Green cos most people don't understand it lol hahaha
Almost ten years later this is still the finest explanation of "timing" in comedy.
I only just recently discovered Henning on Would I Lie to You, and now I can't get enough of him.
Timing is the secret of comedy - brilliant bit of visual humor with the stopwatch. :D
LULZ... ya, IKR? I gotz no excuze neither, 'cuz I'm in Canadada, eh?
Henning is really hilarious, one of my favourite comedians 😊👏👏👏
Ahahah, seriously underrated comic
Seriously though, I would've thought that more of Stewart Lee's crowd would get the Austria-Hungary joke.
I got the joke but I didn't audibly laugh, just expelled more air than usual out of my nose.
I just don't think its a belly laugh sort of joke. I think a fair few got it
What were they meant to do to signify they understood it?
That has got to be the best closing line ever - "Hence......it's a joke."
Henning Wehn needs to be on QI a lot more. I love this guy so much!
stand up and a joke on the Austro Hungarian dual monarchy....only on youtube via Stewart lee...incomprable und ich bin auch mit dieser Kerl begeistert er turnt mich an...wirklich!
I keep coming back to this video, an absolute gem of a routine
He's brilliant! I listen to "the unbelievable truth" when I go to sleep at night mainly for him. He's just so good.
Thank you for this
I can't believe people aren't laughing at the joke he does at the end, brilliant timing!
Just saw him do a full 25min set supporting Stewart Lee on his tour. Really funny.
Bloody love Henning!he so funny 😂❤️
My wife told the Austria-Hungary joke to her friends. None of them got it. Sad face.
Lol
because her friends were probably female who couldn't care less about history
@@piggypiggypig1746 haha you daft sexist

Absolutely cracking.

love this guy on fighting talk- why did my grandfather cross the road? to occupy france. classic
Seen Henning on many programs. Very funny guy.
Stuart Lee introduces the only comedian who's act he's yet to vilify.
Whose*
If it was Russell Wehn then he’d better watch out.
my two favourite comedians :)
Lee and Henning. Eleven years that took.
He is fantastic on Fighting Talk !!
"hence its a joke" such a good closing line.
That was GENIUS 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
He's great: intelligent and funny. I'll have to find out where he doing near me so I can check him out at length
"...hence, it's a joke" Love it
Henning Wehn has let himself go.
Fantastic bloke
Depressing how that Austria-Hungary line went over so many heads
Love his humour
Henning gave it to them straight, like a pear schnapps that’s made from 100% pear
The Austria Hungary football joke was made earlier by the head of the Hapsburg family in a TV interview. Now that was funny!
I think the British audience was confused that a non-Brit could have such an acutely dry and witty sense of humor.
Cannot wait for The Alternate Comedy Experience tonight with Stewart Lee on Comedy Central. Its going to be brilliant.
i only know one: My grandfather died in a concentration camp. he fell of the watchtower cause he was too drunk...
So all the stuff he says about the work ethic is absolutely true! Cool.
You're so right! I long for American humour in my life. My favourite jokes are these sort: My mom is from France and my dad is from Spain, so when I see a baguette, I don't know whether to eat it, or shove it up my ass!

Jordon Hewitt Lol.
Now there's a joke you could set a watch to.
I haven’t got any hard evidence of it but I trust Stewart Lee on these matters.
1 minute 30 seconds of Jolliness is so Colonel Klink XD
You can say Henning Wehn’s name by clearing your throat
0:55 did someone fart???😂

Surely everyone knows that the Austro-Hungarian Empire never had a single national side, but separate Austrian and Hungarian teams?
And you must be our resident German?
@@samjoshi1812 nein.
He's too sharp for the crowd.
The British say German's don't have a sense of humour. I don't find that funny XD
Just seen him on would I lie to you he was hilarious, does he have a DVD? Not sure whether he's all persona or actually like that haha
Tough crowd, but he's good...😎
Some good jokes wasted on the uneducated.
classist prick
Calm down Ken.
Oh you were there then.

What a breath of fresh luft after the introduction by the achingly-dull Stewart Lee.

I got that joke on the sketch !
Sid the sloth from ice age has let himself go.
What venue is this?
The comedy vehicles.
Fuck this guy is brilliant.
0:54 Mr Lee does a little fart. But it was only a really tiny fart, like the kind of fart a vole might do. Or Anna Friel.
Stewart Lee breaks wind at 55 seconds
Steve Bannon in the audience at the end of the sketch
He walks around in the exact same manner as Jools Holland, although with less 'gesturing over the shoulder'.
Is that Steve Bannon in the audience at 4:55?
What an awful crowd. I'd find it so demoralising...
Rasputin, Rasputin, the peasants are revolting!

saw henning support sewart lee last night and two people stormed out the room. he starts off slow and mild but the end of his set was shocking to a lot of people
Robbie Williams must have brought a friend that night.
I got it, in fact I understood the joke as soon as his 'second person' said "Austria Hungary".
