Playing CVS2 was so much fun because if you meet the requirements you will never know which boss you could get after the final stage. Some players aimed to get Shin Akuma but instead got Ultimate Rugal while others aimed to get Ultimate Rugal but instead got Shin Akuma. And there's the regular Akuma & Rugal. Fighting games with more than one boss are much more fun
SvC Chaos came out _after_ SNK emerged from bankruptcy as Playmore in 2003, but it actually started development before they went bankrupt. Post-bankruptcy, though, it looks like they pushed it out quickly, which is why it's so rough around the edges. I heard that it was _Capcom_ who pushed SNK to release the game when they did to honour their deal (I think it was 3 games apiece? Though I would have thought SNK already had 3 games done at that point, albeit all for Neo Geo Pocket), so they pushed it out mostly as contractual obligation. Also, in CvS1 arcade, there was a way to put all characters into Ratio 2, so you could have any two characters (including Akuma) on a team. Oh, and the Dreamcast version had free ratio edit first, allowing you to set any character to any ratio. (The Dreamcast version also had the ability to turn on _running_ in the options, which wasn't possible in the arcade, as even SNK Groove had dashing. Running was clearly meant to be an option, most likely for SNK Groove, since all characters have run animation, but Capcom ended up not putting it in probably because running was _waaaaay_ too good; everyone's run speed was _crazy_ fast, like twice as fast as the running speed in CvS2; Chun-Li and Vega were like Marvel characters who could warp across the screen with their runs). So if anyone insists on checking oit CvS1 for whatever reason, check the Dreamcat version which is much more interesting than the arcade version. There's also CvS Pro which is an update that rebalanced the ratios (though it basically murdered the R1s and made the R3s busted) and added a Joe and Dan. It was better than CvS1 but also completely pointless since CvS2 came out maybe 3 months later, no joke.
What is interesting is that SNK gave that Super to Takuma and Mr. Karate in KOF XIII While in Takuma it is a Desperation Move, for Mr. Karate it is a just a special move. It is very common for Capcom and SNK to copy each other's work. Or copy the work of other companies Just to give examples, Capcom look at Shen's (KOF) moves and gave these to Marisa (SF6) Capcom look at Lee's (Fighter's History) moves and gave these to Yun (SF3)
The direction SNK went with SNK vs Capcom Chaos is such a weird one. When it was announced I think the expectation from everyone following the game was a game that was essentially KoF with Street Fighter/Capcom characters in it. But it’s like SNK saw that Capcom went the team direction and completely shifted gears from what they normally were doing at that time. It’s too bad the direction they didn’t go was something like using SVC Chaos as an excuse to make a follow up to Garou:Mark of the Wolves or something. Like if they were going to do one-on-one fights, having the game basically be MotW2 but with characters from KoF and Capcom games would’ve been cool. It does have some nice sprites. I do like the games roster picks too.
It was a hastily made game developed by a SNK skeleton crew as their employees were being hired out from under them. They stapled something together before the license with Capcom expired, then had only 5 months to get KoF 2003 out while it was still 2003, and that would end up being the last game SNK ever made for the Neo Geo. That's why SvC has such a bleak, apocalyptic atmosphere, it was the End of Days in that office.
You can have Akuma/Gouki in a team in CVS1 arcade by holding specific attack buttons at the title screen before pressing start. The mode is called 'Pair Match', which sets all characters to ratio 2, including bosses.

Some people say SVC Chaos looks and feels like a bootleg game, but to be honest I never had that impression. It feels pretty similar to a lot of SNK fighters back in the day. One of the beefs that I had with the game is that it was launched somewhat unfinished. It feels so weird with Geese not having any voicelines. Especially, considering how boisterous that character is in previous games.
At least Max rates SVC Chaos as a decent game... Most people undeservingly shit on it. Sad, it is such an underrated game but not as good as CVS2 for sure, not gonna argue with that.
SCV chaos is what got me into akuma/shin ( i played the shit outa that game) and i probably would've liked CVS2 but i was never able to get it. The blockbuster i went to at the time, i swear the person whomever rented it just never returned it, cause it was already at the time blockbuster was "falling" and so people were renting games and not returning them cause there was no penalty in not returning a game since the store was going to close down.
The only way to really balance Shin Akuma in CVSNK2 was to give him low health although strangely enough God Rugal had good health and hit could still hit like a truck, with the groove edit and unlimited points after doing the boss battle and survival mode its possible to make a groove where Shin Akuma is lethal like a combo off his burning fireball or dp into misogi was certain death.
SVC Chaos to me feels like what happens when you Fever Dream a Capcom vs SNK crossover where everything feels liminal and off putting because your ill addled mind is dreaming up some fucked up stuff.

Max, I'm so fucking happy you informed on this "ratio" nomenclature, you have no idea
I remember Maximilian playing SVC CHAOS in his Akuma, Ken, Dan & Terry legacies. In each playthrough he got Violent Ken & Shin Akuma as his bosses. He never encountered the SNK bosses Orochi Iori & Serious Mr Karate. I want max to play SVC CHAOS again to try to get Orochi Iori & Serious Mr Karate
Just played Capcom vs SNK 2. Idevided to do 2 Ratio mode arcade runs. On the first run i did Ratio 4 Akuma. I defeated the sub boss Geese, got over 1500 GPS and defeated Shin Akuma withdraw continuing. Tge next run i did Ratio 2 Shin Akuma & regular Akuma. That time i got Ultimate Rugal and defeated him withdraw continuing
This is my all time favorite fighting game. I need to find a way to play again!!
Can you break down how super or ultra sf6 is going to affect the casual I just bought the dlc characters
SCV Chaos typo gang here before the title fix
Some people say SVC Chaos looks and feels like a bootleg game, but to be honest I never had that impression.
It feels pretty similar to a lot of SNK fighters back in the day.
One of the beefs that I had with the game is that it was launched somewhat unfinished.
It feels so weird with Geese not having any voicelines. Especially, considering how boisterous that character is in previous games.
The pocket version is truly a masterpiece, should've been the real svc
Also for some reason it's full of soul compared to svc chaos
At least Max rates SVC Chaos as a decent game... Most people undeservingly shit on it. Sad, it is such an underrated game but not as good as CVS2 for sure, not gonna argue with that.
I wish I could just shake CvS2's hand, and tell it what an honor it is to play.
Hey look it's shin Akuma. I like the pallette that looks like Goku, and getting wombo'd by Mai 👍
CVS 1 & 2 were my jam at launch and in arcades. We need 3. We need 2 to make a main stage evo comeback
Hoping we'll get a Capcom vs SNK 3 in the future
Was Akuma in Match of the Millennium for the NGPC?
I literally commented on the last vid, hoping you would talk about this version 😁
Akuma my Goddesses 🙏🙏🙏
SVC match of the millennium is on steam too
SVC Chaos to me feels like what happens when you Fever Dream a Capcom vs SNK crossover where everything feels liminal and off putting because your ill addled mind is dreaming up some fucked up stuff.
Yeah baby!
Does anyone know if we will ever get CvS 2 on PS5?
Hell yeah
I really hope CvS3 becomes a thing in my lifetime
6:19 😂😂😂😂
I don't know if it counts. But you should look at the different Akuma's in Mugen.
