Boy, do I love the sound of that...the Southern Region may have been mainly boring EMUs (with the odd thumper thrown in to even things up a bit)...but at least it had Cromptons!
I realise that but it's the narrow aperture that is about 2-3 inches above the numbers. I've seen it on other locos too such as the Southern Region slam door EMUs (Thumpers). Mostly set to 'black' but sometimes there are white dots showing.
Can see the vacuum brake hose, reminds me of my "proportional valve" lessons, long time ago in the 60's great days !!
Hearing that sound has just taken me back 20+ years :-) I was never a big 33 man but what a wonderful noise....
As always, fabulous to hear the sulzer straight 8 engine and it's unique bleating exhaust note.
Sulzer was my favorite, I stopped one from overspeeding at OOC in 1965.
great footage ....!!! what a little beastie...
Beautiful sounding loco ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic resto job so far!
I loved driving these Cromptons,i all the years i have driven them i never had one breakdown!
Sensational noise, what a cracking piece of film.

So true!
Will always think of John Frood aka The Postman from Exeter when I see footage of ‘35. He would have been very impressed of its current condition...
o-o Did this engine use to be Network Southeast/west?

Part of the headcode.
Actually on your video 'Driving 33035' you can see the points where the winding handles connect. There are 3 in total.
Really? On some locos it shows 1, 2, 3 or 4 dots. I assumed it was to do with headcode info.
The Headcodes are on the Yellow below the 33 and Cab Windows
What is the letterbox size panel for above the headcode blinds?
Stop going on about it
Cromptons are fab there my favorite type of diesel
I like the nwse door
Ah.... All the best stuff comes from Smethwick! Hand built by West Bromwich Albion supporters. Just like the original class 47; D0260 LION.
LION nearly became the first Class 47, if you read my book Class 47 50 Years of Locomotive History the full story is in there.
I’ll do that.
yes it did
