    Cheers Mike, great video we also use Tradify from your recommendation is pretty good software to be fair. We use it on a daily basis now to run my company. When I first looked at the dual rcd consumer unit I thought, maybe you could fit a miniature Rcbo between the main switch at the first RCCB but for the price of those little consumer units with SPD why not. Even though we fit SPD on everything I still do not buy into the idea of it. I think it’s complete nonsense, the manufacturers rewriting the regs for us to sell their products. In 25 years in the game, I’ve never seen where surge protection would’ve helped. Living in Hertfordshire, and from the last regulations I was in the Twitter zone of it all.. and probably until we can test it for ourselves. Will I ever think it’s not a waste of money. Thanks again. Enjoy your Christmas. About the double pole, RCBO hand on heart, I always thought until this year until JB electrial on Instagram, showed that not all RCBO’s arr double pole, I was taking it for granted they were.

      Hi buddy I hope you’ve had a great Christmas. Yes I didn’t know until recently about the double pole rcds as like you I thought they all were so when I found out I thought I would share the info.

      @@GreenHawkConstructionltd Did you had to put another henly block and take a new consumer unit from there just wondering that since there is also one consumer unit there already in the garage so where did you take the power from? I know that for the garage you have to take a new line from the hanely block or box at the orgine somewhere but now you got even a smaller one so if you can share a bit about that, it will be great.

    I've had many a conversation with sparks fitting EV that were not aware of needing double pole RCBO's and also not aware that the full size RCBO's were only single pole and neutral. It's one of the main things to go under the radar. Also simultaneous contact assessment if using TT for the charger is one that goes under the radar.

    The zappi v2 has 30mA Type A RCD & 6mA DC protection built into it. So the RCD would only be required to protect the cable at most. If using SWA a RCD wouldn’t be required at the origin. You have now got no discrimination between RCD’s now between the inbuilt and the one in the db.
    It could be argued that it doesn’t need RCD protection at all in the db with the cable clipped especially if using SWA. The high tough may be different due to the risk of damage from the environment.
    On a positive though good install and nice and neat. There’s too many people who just lob it in and run.

      @@leerudd8468 interesting,
      The Myenergi documentary and installation forum technical experts (from myenergi) seem to go along the lines of Generally there is no need to fit what’s often referred to as an upstream RCD unless there is a risk to the cable between the supply take off point and the Zappi, for example if the cable was buried and there was a risk that someone could put a spade through the cable whilst digging.
      However I would be interested to see the NIC webinar on this.
      How would you “get around” the lack of discrimination in this situation?

    • @leerudd8468

      I guess manufactures instructions over rule I guess. Such a grey area yet again.

    • @NickW1111
      @NickW1111 Рік тому +1

      The zappi self-tests its RCD functionality at the start of every charge. And no need for an upstream RCD even with a non-armoured cable as long as it isn't buried (ie clipped direct). I guess that if you do have an upstream RCD to protect the cable or for any other reason, it should be a time delay one but they tend to be expensive.

    With the cable clipped direct and the RCD built in to the Zappi, is another RCD required, or could an MCB be put in directly off the main switch in the fusebox board (looks like the installer put a blank in perhaps for this purpose?). Still probably needs an SPD adding though I guess...

      Is there a regulation that implies that surge protection must be provided for EV chargers? If there isn't, (which I don't think there is) then the charger could have been installed on the dual RCD board (as many are), and the additional board was unnecessary.
