Motor Scooter 2 hour commute to work

- This is a film of a typical commute for me on my scooter. The travel time is about 2 hours each way, through countryside and city.
I have enjoyed riding my Kymco Like 200i, but recently came upon a deal for a 2010 Honda SH150 that I couldn't pass on, so this is probably me last commute on the Kymco. As I only started riding a year ago (at 62 years of age), I have to compress my riding experiences with different bikes while I can still do it, hence the change. The Kymco is for sale (Kijiji)
A Two hour commute on a small capacity scooter, you’re a legend my friend. As a year round motorcyclist myself I have recently converted to a scooter for all my journeys with the exception of long distance time bound touring. Scooters are just so cheap, practical and interestingly addictive to use. Keep the vids coming.
Don't know about "legend" but thanks anyway.Stay tuned for a long trip video, leaving this week for a good one. Thanks for watching and commenting James, much appreciated.
Precisely.
This is genius. Absolutely brilliant. A gentle scooter video. Like watching "Painting with
Bob Ross" except on two wheels. Hugely good.
Thanks so much Mick, glad you enjoyed.
Yeah, this is two-wheeled therapy delivered beautifully, , all the freedom, none of the screaming. Well done.
Man after my own heart. Steady driver/rider - not out to break any speed records, enjoying the ride but keeping good space all around you. As an Aussie I have to say I love your soft Canadian accent. Very soothing.
Appreciate the comment, thanks. I am very encouraged to find that quite a few people see the world as a place to appreciate and not just speed through leaving your unwanted garbage behind.
I recently discovered your channel and have been enjoying your videos immensely! I, too, like exploring and camping on my scooter (and my motorcycle) and in my canoe. Thank you for sharing your trips with us!
Thanks so much for watching and the great comment, it is very encouraging to know there are like minded people all over the world. Glad you enjoy my vids.
This was such a soothing video. Beautiful waterfalls. Thinking about getting a scooter for my work commute.
yes, thanks, hope I don't put people to sleep. I really enjoy scooter commuting, just been away on holiday and I actually can't wait to drive to work on my scoot, go figure.
Great video. I live in Orlando Florida but own a kymco like 125 in Colombia (South America) where I have family. My scooter is 2014 but has been left unused in a garage with a cover on . . . it only has 350 kilometers. I'll be in Colombia next month and after watching your videos I look forward to riding my beloved scoot. Keep up the good work !!! Your videos are fun to watch.
Thanks for the great comments.I'm jealous of the weather you must have for scooting, mine is packed away for the winter now.Enjoy your warm riding!
I hope that you added gas stabilizer to your fuel tank, and perhaps drained your carburetor or your beloved scooter may not start.
I've been to Bogota, Medellin, Cartegena, and the salt mine/cathedral in the place that starts with a Z which I can never remember. That's a nice country you've got there!
Adopted my two daughters from the Fundacion de los Pisingos in Bogota.
Enjoy your rides and Happy New Year.
Ontario looks beautiful!
Nice commute; so different and silent compared to the busy roads here in the Netherlands!
(I own a Kymco Like myself; still love it after 10 years!)
Yes, the back roads can be peaceful. I loved the Kymco but now drive a Honda SH150i, which suits my hight better, either way, riding is great.
Hello James , Really love your video's. Its great that you dont use
music like most of the scooter trip video's. Its very relaxing looking at nature there in Canada. Here in Belgium we only have small forests and to much noice and trafic . Great work sir !!!!
Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated.I love music and add it in some of my recent videos in small amounts, but agree that sometimes it can distract from the film.I feel really lucky to live in a place where there are so many quiet natural places to explore.
Brother spotted
Couldn't agree more. Tranquility on two tyres.
enjoyable vid as always. wow those falls are nice, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed.
Off on vacation soon so won't be doing any scooter vids for a bit.
Happy riding.
have a great vacation
Really enjoying your videos James and love the pacing. Welcome to 2 wheels; it looks like you've been at it for years. Very well done, all the way around!
Thanks for that great comment and encouragement, much appreciated Doug.
Wow! I wish my commute to work was that nice. Nice soothing video. I too own a Kymco, but the 500ri. Thinking of downsizing though. Anyway, thanks for the video.
This size (power and weight) bike is perfect for me, as I am all about enjoying the ride and not being in a hurry.Since this video I have switched to a Honda SH150i and I am enjoying the larger wheels with all the bumps I travel over. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated.
NICE FOR YOU TO FIND OUT HOW REWARDING RIDING IS. ENJOY, RIDE SAFE
Wish I had started riding years ago, but really enjoying it now.
I really enjoyed watching your video. I would suggest you consider a windscreen that covers your hand-grips. I installed a tall windscreen on my Vespa GTV 250cc and cut it down to just below my eye-level. When I ride during a winter rain, the airflow goes over the windscreen and then over my helmet, which works well to protect me from the cold air and rain. Also it is a huge help in keeping my hands from getting cold at high speeds.
Thanks for watching Donald. I actually have a windscreen that came with the Honda SH150i that I am riding now. I put it on but found it cut down my clear view of the road and fogged up on cool mornings. I took it off because my view was more important to me than the wind. I may try it again someday and perhaps cut it down like you say.
Soothing video!
Thanks for watching and being soothed.
Enjoyed your video. I’m considering buying one in the spring. Maybe am MP3 400. I sold my Spyder about a month ago. By the way, I’m in Nova Scotia.
Thanks for watching Richard. We have spent many a great vacation in Nova Scotia, love it out there. I’m already looking forward to next springs riding, hope you get your bike and enjoy some nice riding in Nova Scotia.
Definitely have to visit Almonte to see the falls. Scooters really are the best.
This year with the higher water level is making for great rapids and falls everywhere.
And yes, scooters rule!
The Kymco is speed limited by rpm 7250 rpm, So, people will not blow it up. Honda owned 20% until 2019 when Kymco bought them out and they collaborated on design of the engine and the scooter. So, basically it is a Honda just made in Taiwan. I believe the Honda is a step down from the Kymco. And I am 78 and have been ridding from the age of 16 and my 2012 Kymco 200i has been reliable and fun. Good luck with the Honda a quality scooter and look forward to more videos.
2 hour commute is crazy, but looks like a nice ride
Yes, crazy, but I wanted to live in the countryside and could only find work in the city. Once I got the scooter the ride was a wonderful trip instead of a gruelling commute.
@@jamescarey7277 Whatever makes your life enjoyable is not a waste of time.
Now THAT is a VERY quiet scooter!!!!!!!!!!!!
You must have a great muffler on it!
Stock muffler, not sure what it is. Yes, I like the quiet.
I enjoy riding my scooter to work as well, it is surprisingly fun. Especially if there's little or no traffic early in the morning or late at night (I work shifts) so you can just cruise along at your own pace and even pay attention to interesting things and places around you. But mine is a cheap and used Chinese 4-stroke, so it tends to not start very well once the temperature outside drops below 12-13 Celsius, otherwise I'd ride it more.
Yes, more fun than I ever thought. Too bad about your scoot, cheap is good but takes a bit of the joy away when they don’t work.
@@jamescarey7277 It works well enough for the price I paid for it, just that it needs constant repairs and fine-tuning. Anyway, I bought a cheap and used one because I wasn't sure how much I'd even ride it, so I didn't want to invest in a factory-new bike. But next season I might. I joked to a colleague that scooters should be made a mandatory form of transport, people would live happier lives. But thanks for the video, was a good watch and I picked up some tips.
Nice commute as long wild life don't run in front of you . And they like to come out at Dawn and dust or at night . I live in SO AZ USA and hit a javelina in a country road ever since I get behind other vihicles ? Javelinas run in packs here .their as big as pigs but are not . That day I was in my car Small dent on bumper I fixed . But my Motos here day rides only ? Is it cheaper on gas than your car ? Only one problem there small season to ride I use to live in NYC put the Motos away for 6 mo I hated it .
Yes, I know what you mean, there are many animals up here. I did hit a white tail deer once, in the morning but not dark. I was lucky and managed to stay up. Its a matter of luck, there are animals crossing the roads even during the day, I don’t ride at night very often.
The season is short here. It is cheaper on gas to ride the scooter, and way more fun. Thanks for the comment, and safe riding my friend.
Thanks for the virtual tour. Almonte looks beautiful. What was that house I saw across the rapids? It looked like it had an observatory on the roof. Very interesting.
If you mean the large stone building, it used to be a flour mill and is now converted to apartments. I imagine the white thing on top may be something to do with building maintenance, heating or cooling etc. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed.
Excellent video info
Thanks.
Great ride BTW.
Ha! Thanks Gill, appreciate you watching :o)
Selling the Kymco is a huge mistake.
It looks like you only filled the gas tank halfway. You should be able to fill any scooter gas tank up to the recommended maximum level any time. The biggest concern in overfilling is allowing room for expansion. If you're having flooding issues with more than half a tank, that's an indication of a petcock/carburetor problem.
I’d be looking for a new job. 2 hours commute?!
At my age (and mental state)nobody would hire me anyway. Now that I am riding a bike, wouldn't mind if it was longer! ^_^
same here. I wld be bored travelling two hours to work daily. I travel 30mins daily using my 150cc scoot, and am enjoying it
Do you feel comfortable leaving your scooter out in the parking lot all day while you work? I always have had some sort of arrangement with my job where they let me tie it up in a hidden nook or something "out back" so that people driving around looking for things to steal don't see the easy target sitting out in the middle of an abandoned parking lot
I never worried about it, and the parking lots were never abandoned, always other cars around.
I'm from Taiwan and live in Toronto now. Kymco is one of the most popular Taiwanese scooters brands. It's rare to see people ride Kymco scooters around. I'd like to get one of those scooters here because they are way too cheap, even cheaper than many e-bikes.
Yes, great bikes, hope you get one soon, good luck and thanks for watching.
Isn't having breakfast at A&W kind of anti-Canadian?
What they don't have Timmies in Ottawa? ;-)
My stomach doesn't care about politics or boundaries or world affairs, if we didn't go or do something because it maybe connected to another country, we wouldn't be doing anything :) Didn't ride my bike this morning, so kind of crusty :o(
What's the red light on the dash left to corner?
Hello, I think that was just the Kymco logo ( I don’t have that bike any more, but was a nice bike). Thanks for watching my videos
Thanks for the video. How late into the year can you ride up there?
Retired now, so no commutes anymore, so I stop riding when the temp is lower than about 12 Celsius. Can usually ride from May until October. Be nice to live where I could ride year round.
Total of 4 hours a day spent on the road.
Yes, four glorious hours on my bike! Love it!
I commute 55 miles in 2.5 hours daily. The morning isn’t a problem, but the ride home is a mess.
When did you get your motorcycle licence? Which motorcycle school did you use? I’m thinking of getting a scooter to commute my 14km to work and will have to get my motorcycle course in Ottawa.
Hi,thanks for watching. I signed up for the course at Algonquin College which was around 400 dollars or some thing and happens each spring ( so you should sign up now).
But, in my case, I found out I already had a motorcycle licence included on my drivers licence from Quebec ( used to live in Montreal),so I canceled the course.
The bike in this video, 2013 Kymco 200i, was my first bike and I am selling it as I have a Honda now.
This bike is great and suited perfectly to a city commute.
I would give you a good price if you were interested. I can send photos if you send me an email address.
Jim
James Carey Thanks for the info. I have been meaning to get a scooter for years but between kids and work, there never was the time. At 58, suspect I had better do it. I have always wanted a Vespa so maybe this spring I will take the course at Algonquin. I used to live in a forested area in Lanark country so I really appreciate where you live. Kieran
Do most Canadians sound like you, or are you from a special area?
Not sure what you mean...."special"...:) *~*I live in Ontario, near Lanark, and I suppose there are sounds particular to this area that I have picked **up.My** family immigrated to Canada when I was 12, from England, so that is also part of my "sound".So, no, I am not your typical Canadian sounding person **type. As** in America, we are made up of millions of people, all different but all part of our amazing countries and the world! *o*
NOW, James after 2 years , which you prefer more ? the Kymco or Honda SH?
Honda Sh150i. I did like the glove box and the dash on the Kymco, but for ride, comfort and speed the Honda wins.
@@jamescarey7277 Thanks for the reply. My heart is more towards Kymco as I always like the idea of air cooled engine
Haven't seen any kymco content lately...do you still have it?
No, only have the Honda SH150i now. Loved the Kymco but seat hight on Honda suits me better, both great bikes.
What size and kind of moped you got
It’s a 2010 Honda SH150i SCOOTER.
Sorry Aaron, in the video it is a Kymco 200i, I now have a Honda SH150i. Both good scooters.
How do you keep people from stealing your scooter
The front wheel is locked in position, and I basically hope for the best and don't worry about it.
A 2-hour commute???
Ha!!, I know right !??!?!
I enjoy every minute 😀
I have a scooter kinko Like 125 and commute 6 hour (249 miles)
Wow, 6 hours, that’s great! Safe riding my friend, and enjoy it.
The seed must be different in Canada then it is in the United States your neighbor
Not sure what you mean. Thanks for watching.
@@jamescarey7277 I was listening to the road speed at one time you said people was going 120 I thought y'all doing speed different or I am top speed is 75 that's on the interstate
Wade Barnes, the speed is in kilometres per hour in Canada , you have miles per hour.
Need a bigger bike
What's your scooter?
The scooter in this video is a 2013 Kymco Like 200i, but I am now riding a Honda SH150i.The Kymco was my first bike (I started riding late in life) and I loved it, great bike.
James Carey many thanks.
why not get an actual motorcycle to go faster?
This is a question that is hard to explain, kind of like if you have to ask you won't get it. I'll try anyways assuming that it's a serious question. First a quick background is that I'm in my mid 40s and have been riding motorcycles mainly from my late twenties for commuting year round. I've ridden 48k on my FZ6, 75% of which was commuting, and have had a couple of scooters during that time. The FZ6 is a great motorcycle, but I'm often bored riding it around town because I can't use it anywhere near it's capacity with traffic and within the law. I recently bought a Kymco Spade 150 (mini motorcycle) for it's light weight and to be able to cruise around at a relaxing pace while still having fun. It's a blast to ring it's neck and still be close to within the law too. I'm still keeping the FZ6 for touring and spirited riding, but find myself riding the Spade way more. The scooters are great for just hopping on and running errands with the storage, twist and go and leg protection from the elements. Congratulations if you made it through my long explanation. I can go on but won't bore you anymore.
