Hindi: The National language of India? | But Why

  • National language is not an important aspect of a country or society. It is merely a tool for communication and does not hold any inherent value or significance.
    There are many countries with multiple national languages and this has not affected their progress or unity in any way. In fact, it has allowed for a more inclusive and diverse society, where people from different cultural backgrounds can communicate and interact with each other.
    Furthermore, the concept of a national language is often used as a political tool by governments to impose a certain language and culture on its citizens. This can lead to discrimination and marginalization of certain groups, leading to social tensions and conflicts.
    Opinion Personal, please don't get offended.

    There are a couple of things which are not correct:
    1. Hindustani is not a mixture of Urdu and Hindi but parent of these 2 languages. This language got split in 1850a during the Hindi Urdu controversy when the british wanted to make local languages as official language and in north India Hindustani was written in Devanagari by Hindus and nastaliq by Muslims which later on became Hindi and Urdu
    2. Bangladesh didn’t separate because of Urdu. Bengali and Urdu both functioned as Pakistan’s national language from 1956 onwards and that issue got settled. Bangladesh separated due to socio economic injustice meted to east Pakistan between 1947-71 which resulted in Awami league calling for their 6 points which practically meant virtual separation of east from west which resulted in political deadlock of 1971 and subsequent independence of Bangladesh

    • @utkarshdube370
      @utkarshdube370 2 роки тому +9

      the first point is not true. Hindustani isn't the parent of Hindi and Urdu. Khari Boli or the Dehlvi Dialect of Delhi is. Hindustani is an indepence movement effort by mostly upper-middle class of India to unite Hindus and Muslim on a major point of difference, i.e. the national language of what was to become independent India. Mostly progressives of the Congress party and writers of progressive writers association came up with the term and suggested it's replacement in place of Hindi or Urdu. You have Gandhi, Premchand and Manto championing that idea. Today Hindustani is seen both as the common place of Hindi and Urdu and also as therefore the parent but historically there was no such language as hindustani, aka mixture language.

      But forceful compensation of Urdu language in Bangladesh was a problem which hurt of a lot of Bengali Pride due to that protest by Bengaladeshi students the un officially decleared that day as world mother tongue day
      .....world was amazed by see love of bengalis for their laguage

      @@sulusukta3935 more people were killed during the anti Hindi agitation in 1960s in south india then Bengalis in 1952 but yet only Bengalis got a day for themselves?! Why? Second everyone loves his or hoer mother tongue. Third Bengali language movement could have been considered the key or even one of the reasons for Bangladesh’s independence had Pakistan not given any status to Bengali as they demanded and kept on forcing Urdu on them but that didn’t happen and ultimately both the languages were given official status. Finally even sheikh mujeeb’s 6 points didn’t mention anything about Urdu Bengali or language Etc. Proving that the isssue was settled. I feel that Bangladeshis deliberately use language issue to harp up nationalism for Bangladesh’s cause (which is not required as Bangladesh’s independence movement was based on socio economic injustice metted towards them and thus the movement was justified esp when govt refused to transfer power to Mujeeb) you don’t need to bring ethnic nationalism but the same has been brought in to highlight the differences between the 2 wings and to fan hate towards Pakistan and ordinary Pakistanis esp the Urdu language. They don’t even spare Jinnah (a person due to whom even Bangladesh today stands as an independent country, had Pakistan not been created by him there would have been no Bangladesh today but Bangladeshis conveniently forget this fact and made him a villain only because he supported Urdu, he never said Bengali would be banned and told the people that they can have it as their provincial language , he chose Urdu as the national one because it was the only language which could have worked as a lingua Franca in a multi ethnic country like Pakistan).

      Hindustani is not a parent of Urdu and Hindi. The norther western Indian creole(common language) is called Hindustani. It is language that was born from the influence of Persian brought by the Mughals. Persian effected what ever was the creole at the time and it became hindustani it was also written in the Perso-Arabic script, thus this is essentially what Urdu is. Many Hindu nationalist may find what I'm about to say as heresy but in the late 1800's many Hindus out of racism/fascism or what ever started writing Hindustani with Devanagari to dissociate from muslims and called it Hindi and also started adding more sanskrit words in place of persian ones in formal contexts/liturature/education.
      Now the issue with Bangladesh and Urdu is complex as the largest native Urdu speaker of Pakistan were in East Pakistan (EP: 3% is, WP: 0.8 % at the time, even today native urdu speaker make like 4% of Pakistan's population)

I just only seen south Indian been stubborn and too conservative to accept new things and learn different things. Even south Indian conflict with other south Indian state for language. I mean seriously, you people are not progressive as we think, we don't fight with other states for language or haven't seen any countries rivaling for language. South Indian can keep three languages, one English, Hindi, and regional language. Even in US, most of my friends from the Middle East, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, to Nepal, to different state of India, we can connect easily, but with south Indians friends, I have to speak in English. Even South Indians from different states such as person from Kerala and Tamilan, they speak language in English. @@Frozen_flames_ bro hindi is not even a natural indian language. (I am not saying hindi is a foreign language) It is a heavily persianised language. Hindi was seperated from hindustani only in the 19th century. Hindustani was a hindi sounding language using Persian script. Hindustani was the result of Mughal rule in india, where Farsi was used as the official language.
      Dravidian languages originated within the indian sub-continent. Dravidian languages are true indian languages.
      You are portraying hindi like it is the only language of India but in reality is far from that discription.

    Every Indian should know atleast 3 languages....
    1) ur mothertongue
    2) Hindi ( common Indian language)
    3) English....
    My mothertongue is BENGALI bt I hv learned Hindi....
    Right now if a north indian needs to speak to a South Indian, the communication should be in English, bt the fact is even English is a foreign language to them....
    So, I think there should be a common INDIAN LANGUAGE LIKE HINDI....IN India in which every indian no matter the demography can communicate....

    Problem with promoting hindi is that it is always at the expense of other languages.

    As per Indian Govt, Kumauni is just a dialect of Hindi. However as per linguist kumauni is part of Western Himalaya same as Nepali
    Same has happened to Marwari,Bagri, Bhojpuri, Saraiki, Maithili, Garhwali etc

    Hindi and Urdu are same languages with different scripts. Hindi is not our national language and will never be. We will accept only English as a link language. For people of Karnataka, Kannada is our national language and is considered as supreme in our state. We will respect all the languages but will not accept any forceful use of any language. That's not exactly true. The unification of princely states was done by Indian leaders and then the partition on the basis of religion gave us what modern day India is. It's an indestructible union of destructible states. It's the result of nationalism manifestation of India which had a clear objective of a strong political entity containing indian values and civilisations so, that no foreign power will ever control or invade us again.

    • @rishabhrox1
      @rishabhrox1 2 роки тому +2

      No Rohan, gravely wrong. Territorial consolidation of India was NOT done by British. Their territory included Myanmar, Pakistan, Bangladesh and parts of Afghanistan too. Most of these are not part of India today, which means that modern India is a consolidation of Dharmic culture or places with a Dharmic history BY Indians themselves.

    • @rishabhrox1
      @rishabhrox1 2 роки тому +2

      Secondly, we are NOT a super-nation. The 'super-nation' is called "Akhand Bharat", which includes all countries across the world where Indic culture has reached - Indonesia, Thailand, Tibet Autonomous Province of China, Myanmar etc. And actually even the Chinese Buddhism which spread to Japan and Korea has an Indian origin so many count China, Japan and Korea in it too even though the culture significantly changes there. India is a normal nation, and with due respect, Assam is a state/province of India, just like my home state Uttarakhand is.
      Historically though, I accept, respect and take pride in the fact that Assam was a separate kingdom and hence, a separate 'country', which has centuries of legacy of its own. Those Indians who know of the Tai Ahoms take supreme pride in them even if they're not Assamese.

    I don't think Hindi imposition is the result of hatred or superiority complex toward regional languages but insecurity of coloniser's or elite class language as a link language in India. You believe it or not but despite Hindi not being actual mother tongue of many it's intelligible to Gujrati, Marathi, Bengali, etc. but Hindi is not intelligible to Dravidian languages so, there is basically no point of learnings it untill necessary. Many people say use Sanskrit but it's not intelligible to Dravidian language either way. North Indians themselves don't speak proper Hindi, mix 75% English into that, so better focus over there. Also if people want the other guy to learn Hindi then it should be done in mutual way. Learn Tamil it has its legacy in south east asia and other places and have a very long history without much interference of invaders from outside. It's most probably the only language which wasn't influenced by either Sanskrit or Hindi/Urdu.

The day Hindi is sanskritized, more south Indians would love to try and learn the language as a lot of common link would be established. Why do we use English in every field of India? *(Why do we need English)*
    1) India is a *"multilingual"* country & we have a different language family's *(Indo-european, Dravidian, indo-iranian sino-tibetan, Tibeto-burman, Semitic, astro-asiatic Etc..)* & India has no _-national language-_ or any _-monolingual policy-_ the country of India is a *"union system'* and "all languages are respected equally"
    2) Only English is recognized and used as the *"2nd administrative language"* in all states of India. (After their state's official language)
    3) English is the only language used in all fields of India *(science, technology, research, education, medical, business, job field, information, space field, Navy, etc..)*
    4) India is mostly dependent on *"foreign income"* & So we need English in the field of 'business' and 'workplace'
    5) English is emerging as the future *"lingua franca"* of India and the World
    6) English is *"indispensable"* today and giving more value to "English" after our "State language" is also good for our financial empowerment.
    7) Yes there is a language problem in India! So English has grown and is growing as a language to solve that problem, This is the reality! It is better to accept reality. And at the same time all the languages of India should be respected equally 🙏
