Very cool! I already have 2S 18650 packs with those very cells from another project. My Tinyhawk 2 FS is on the way also. Looking forward to trying this.
@@cubefpv I know the feeling! My little channel only started growing this year. According to your stats you've made 5 vids this month and gained 72 sub. Good job man! I'm finding it hard to make a video a week. I'm learning FPV now and it's lots of fun, but a far cry from my usual DJI videos and mods.
Old video, but I`ll go ahead and mention that VTC6 are Sony cells, not Panasonic. LG also have 3000mAh cells and they`re pretty good as well, another option could be Molicell INR-18650-P28A. If you want to go single cell, you might want to try 21700 cells as well, like Molicel INR21700-P42A, 4000 mAh and 45A max discharge. You could run a single 21700, get 4000 Mah and have plenty of amperage, so you can run on the most aggressive prope the AIO can handle ;) (gonna try that myself tbh)
I must admit i was sort of skeptical of the idea that this little drone could carry a battery over twice its own weight, but when i saw your video i had to try it out for myself. It's really wild, albeit the motors sound like they're going through pure agony in hover alone. Maybe it's time to swap the bearings 🤔Awesome video.
Yes thats right - you're flying very high in the throttle. I must admit I just tried this as an experiment to see if it was possible. So yes possible and a lot of fun - but maybe not practical.
I m so interested! Did you have any problem running with 18650 lipo? Except battery plug, did you make some other mod to let it run with 18650? Thanks and cool job!!
No other changes made. But with these batteries it is purely straight and level flying. You need to adjust the low battery warning as well to 5 volts instead of 7 volts.
Welp, I know what I'm doing with my Tiny Hawk II when I graduate to a proper 5" for freestyle. I'm fairly certain you could slap a runcam or Insta360 on that setup & have a super solid little budget cinewhoop.
yes the Tinyhawk will actually carry a bit of weight and well capable ap carrying an Insta 360 2. It also seems to fly better with a bit more weight but it's not that powerful. I find myself holding on the throttle for a punchout over a tree longer than I would like and sometimes sagging the battery.
I am inspired by your video. I would love long flights and long range. I would also like an onboard sd card to capture perfect video. BUT I am very frustrated now because I can't get beta flight to connect to my tinyhawk. I thought I installed the com drivers but I guess I should retry that. Also I was discouraged when I tried the button method of binding to my radiomaster and nothing went according to the instructions. I am very frustrated but i hope to get mine like yours eventually.
For the single 18650. As a beginner, my flying is very easy and nothing special. Few tricks here and there. But even I was able to get just about 10 minutes out of 2x 650mah cells (so a 650mah 2s). So the 18650 does not look that great.
To some degree yes. The first few flights were more like 20 minutes but then I got reduced flight times of around 17 minutes. But I have not seen any further decline in the flight times from there. I think i ahve done about 20 flights with this pack and I am now getting a pretty consistant 17 minute flight each time.
Hallo. Are you using the BNF Kit Emax Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle Bnf 2,5 Zoll 2s 200mw Runcam Nano2 Fpv Racing Drone from Banggood? Can you recommend this drone for beginners? Thanks
The Tinyhawk is a good drone for beginners but it is a bit old now. I think these days there are better beginner drones. have a search for soemthing released in the last 12 months.
Hi friend. I wanted to supply such a battery with a Lithium-ion battery NCR18650B (18650, 3.7 V, 3400 mAh), but the drone does not rise. What settings do I need to change in order for the drone to fly on 1s battery?
You don't need any special settings. However i do not reccomend using a 1S battery. The flight will not be stable. Also you need good quality batteries - like the Sony VTC 6 or Panasonic brand. maybe the battery you are using can't supply the current.
n00b question. would lower pitched, bi-blade props increase flight time? Love all the TH2 Freestyle content. This is my first quad and have really enjoyed upgrading and modding it. I'm now running ExpressLRS on it and this LiIon pack looks like a great option for long range exploration.
I've tested with Gemfan 2540 3 blade props as well as HQ Prop 65mm 2 blade props. neither of these gives any increase in flight time. It seems that the original Emax props are actually very efficient.
_Ideally_ you shouldn't really take 18650s below 3.0v without damaging the lifespan. BTW do you run them off a 100% full charge? Cos they start off at something like 4.2v - lol I wonder what kind of noticeable difference that would make to the drone's performance for the first minute or less of flight time. I use em for my mechanical (unregulated) vape and their wildly varying voltage makes them a pain in the arse to get a consistent pull off em lol (I end up swapping them out at 50%). But for real though, this is pretty cool what you've done with them 😁
Mosfets are hard to replace. You need a soldering re-working station with a hot air blower. Even then it's difficult. Probably easier to replace the board. Or maybe look at moving up to a more modern frame with a standard mounting pattern like 20x20.
I've flown the Tinyhawk Freestyle 2 quite alot with 3S cells (450-500mah 3S LiPo, also tried 500mah 3S LiHV 65-130C). I did not push it extreme on the throttle (tried to stay below 80%) and it flies very well. Are there smaller Li-Ion Cells with similar C-Rating that can be used in 3S or would even 3S (Li-Ion!) make sense? If by any chance you can try 3S Li-Ion, that would be awesome. The Voltage drops very fast to a 2S LiHV Voltage, so I assume it should be alright for the ESCs, as they can handle nonstop 2S LiHV all the time (judging by UA-cam Channels flying this thing for more than 100 times with LiHV 2S)
Yes I am flying with 2S HV CNHL batteries and have no problems at all. Interesting to hear that you are flying with 3S batteries. i was not aware that the tinyhawk would take 3S voltage. The motors are okay on 3S though because i am currently flying another experimental drone on 3S and using the tinyhawk motors. I have a 75% throttle limit and the motors are not getting hot at all. But i don't want to try my tinyhawk on 3S LiIon just in case.
