  • Arkansas Traveller is one of the best known old time fiddle tunes. In this fiddle lesson I show three versions. Firstly, the basic tune; secondly, a version with open string drones, and finally as played by Mark O'Connor on his video from the "Heroes" performance:

Vassar Clements, Charlie Daniels, Doug Kershaw, Johnny Gimble very big names that I have always loved to hear play. At one time when he was just getting started, Charlie Daniels and his family lived not to far down the road from my neck of the woods in the coastal plains of N.C. Another great fiddler that I liked was Kenny Baker. Oh my Lord, the radio airways used to be filled with great CW BG and Old Time tunes. So sad to see it go. Thank you Chris!

Man your bowing is fabulous ... it's at once inspiring and confidence shattering .. ;) - I really wish I'd taken this thing up 30 years ago ... thanks for uploading such superb videos, just listening to you is lesson enough

Hi Frank. Thanks! I'm always glad to receive a complement on my bowing, although I have to admit it more or less takes care of itself, with no conscious thought on my part!

"Heroes" was a fantastic CD. You "channelled" MO'C extremely well. There's an even more complex transcription on Page 182 of the MelBay Book "The Championship Years" which I'm sure you have. Again, good stuff Chris. 👍
