The reason I continuously tune in to your channel is because you’re so thorough. Many of us who lay claim to our heritage and are referred to as “Pro-Black” or Black Nationalist makes the same errors that those who oppose us do by jumping on the first thing that supports our theories or claim and recite it as gospel truth. Like my relatives who pledge allegiance to the Bible have never read anything other than the Bible. However what I see in your work is the opposite as you’ll put “wants” aside and simply seek all the info on the topic. By the direction this video was moving I assumed your conclusion for the name would be a non-Afrikan source. The voice in my head is screaming Pro. van Sertima’s teaching that Afruika was shown to used in Kemet. Then you brought it home in conclusion. Guess that’s why you’re the Home Team. Lol. Peace. Respect. ✊🏾
I still see misinformation, he's focused on Arabic instead of Aramaic, which was the original language of our people... And the fact that he's showing an upsidedown continent shows uninformed parts. But we all have our own tidbits of exposed truths
Great video, gave me something to study. I mainly follow the teaching of Dr. Ben and Dr. John Henrik Clark. And their teacher is guy from Ethiopia. I can't think of his name off the top of my head. Anyway, Dr. Ben and Clark say that Africa has many names through the years. Like Aelkbu-lan, Kush, and Ethiopia. The Greeks called the Africans Ethiopian and called the Atlantic Ocean the Ethiopian Sea. Dr. Ben and Dr. Clark said that Aelkbu-lan was the ancient word used by today's countries Chad, Niger, and Congo. Meaning garden of Eden like you mention. The name Kush came from Nubia. Who predate the Kemtic's. But, I'm a firm believer that Aelkbu-lan is the most ancient name for Africa. But, as long we are discovering and recover our history we can't go wrong.
Proud Ethiopian that's not true. Home team already did a video on Nimrod and Troy. Ethiopian just means burnt face. Whites know blacks by their skin like Moor means black in Roman. It really just a description. Dr. Ben is Ethiopian himself.
I heard the Continent was 1st called Ethiopia. that is the most familiar word mention in the Bible. that or Cush people. Ethiopia Continent makes Sense!
The Bible mention more, in Jasher Africa was only mention when zepho who escaped Egypt went and fought with king Angels of Africa, but when he didn’t want to go fight the Sons of Jacob or Isreal descendants, he went to Chittim, land of Italia and later became king, it was later named Rome or Roman, whom are Esau descendants, Jacob and Esau are brothers. They Roman are mention again in New Testament, they also caused the death of Jesus and later cause the last siege of Jeruselam in time of Flasphiuz Josephus who wrote more info in his many accounts, he part Jew by his father and Roman by his mother

AFRICA or LIBYA in ancient times referred only to the lands WEST of the NILE RIVER as far as the Atlantic Ocean NOT the entire continent. And the people to south of it were called Western Ethiopians but you are correct in saying Africa was in the interior between the Nile and the Atlantic Ocean, which is the MAJORITY of the CONTINENT anyway.

According to historian Runoko Rashidi, he took on the name Africanus after he defeated Hannibal. The name Africa can be traced back to ancient Kemet long before the arrival of Europeans.
Exactly! I was looking for a comment about this. This actually proves that the name Africa was in use as early as the Punic Wars... Which really speaks volumes.
You are so right, the name changed when the Romans conquered Kemet and called it Egypt after a Roman General. they also changed ALKEBULA and called it Africa after a Roman General.
That's a very old question of mine..... ........ "Is 🌍 Africa an inner name or a given name by outsiders?" I highly doubt that ancient Africans did give a name to the whole continent. Let's not forget continent is a recent, European concept. This said, in my mother tongue we call the continent Katiopa. But it originally only refers to the lands my ancesters knew about.
africanprincess21 exactly. Thank you for shining light on this. Africans themselves did not have a grasp of an entire continent. Many African tribes, peoples, or groups were mostly isolated in their perspective areas. The Arabs, thru conquest and slavery, were ythe first to begin the first widespread displacement of Africans on the continent.
I was waiting to hear the Greek word aphrike "with out cold" or another Latin word "aprica" meaning sunny? The Latin aprica could derive from the Latin word Afer but I have never heard of the Egyptian word Af-rui-Kah. ...awesome information👌🏾💯
@minxy you have to consider that the people on the continent have been keeping records long before the Europeans. We know this through ancient Nubian and Kushite text. The problem came when Europeans burned the libraries and ancient historical sites through out the continent . Iraq was a good example when you U.S. began bombing the libraries there under the guise terrorist hide outs. The only difference is that some of the traditions of the continent called Africa are kept coded oral transitions. What I'm saying is Indicative of what also happened to Native Americans and West Indians. Europeans came and tried to destroy the historical traditions and rewrite them in a more appetizing way for the genocides to be accepted
I'm South African and I'm sure Afrika was called many things throughout history of the continent by different regions. Egyptian name became the popular name because of Egypt's civilization and how advanced they were, its place in history and power it had. In Southern Africa (Mzantsi Afrika) we did not have consolidated civilizations that were powerful until later on so we probably did not have name for it other than to describe it as the land of our people (as a collective and not as individuals). We refer to ourselves as the children of the soil. I'm for name change actually.
Look up the DVD...HIDDEN COLORS....It tells you were Africa got its name and it wasn't from Egypt as this vid states....Egypt gave the name KUSH....meaning BLACK....and most if the world called the whole continent...ETHIOPIA...also meaning BLACK....But when the Romans finally defeated their #1 enemy.. That's probably because when they research if they really research and stumble across the truth, it is hard for them to accept or they just choose to ignore truth altogether
Let 's hope that the word had an Egyptian rather than an Arab or Roman origin. Whatever the case may be, Africa today has a plethora historical, cultural and social realities that one can only be proud of.
PSA2 lol I understand why you don’t want the word to be of a Roman origin but Arabs are also part of Africa. Stop trying to divide us we’re all Africans.
You have to be an American to say this. Black Africans are aware of the not only racial but cultural differences. There are areas where the two world merge, Southern Yemen to large chunks of Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea but there is no we here.
I’m definitely not American and there is a we because Africa is a continent and I was referring to Africans unless you don’t identify as African. The name “Africa” originated from Tunisia and if you don’t like it then you can call yourself something else BUT North Africans will always remain Africans no matter how hard you try to exclude us.
I never said North Africans (Amazigh in origin) were not part of the African continent. I am talking about the Arabic peninsula which is a world on it's own.

Arabic is an African language Bro. East African/North east African to be exact. It's a semetic language along with other African languages considered to be semetic and Afro-Asiatic. This is because those people migrated back and forth between Africa mainland and Saudi Arabia/middle east which still sits on the African tectonic plate. Making those areas still African.
Thank you brother that is the understanding that I have gained as well. And concerning the Name, the Shemetic grandson of Abraham, who conquered Libya, and parts of Ethiopia,Was named Ophren" which is who the continent was named after,The Ophrecans,a and later became Africa, and Africans.
This makes me think of my learning of these word forms not usually taught: Canaya & Canayan, which have been reformed to Cana & Canaan, ANNNND the name of the language Cuneiform, which is where it comes from. This is the language written all the the great pyramids of Giza, but it's ALSO the land that giants (Sons of Anak) lived in, where the original Hebrews became regular inhabitants. Israel, as a few of you have mention, in reference to the tectonic plates. Also, I remember a mentor teaching me about "Classical Africa", which shares this combined area. Peace.
For those that believe Africa was named after Scipio Africanus are wrong. Here is a quote from roman historian livy • “hic erit iuvenis, penes quem perfecti huiusce belli laus est, africanus ob egregiam victoriam de hannibale poenisque apellatus- this was to be the young man who obtained the glory of completing the war, and was called africanus because of his outstanding victory over Hannibal and the Carthaginians.”21.46.8 livy roman generals were given the title Africanus from their victories in Africa • Immediately the whole province of Africa was aroused; the people there pulled down maximus’ emblems of honor and decorated their cities with paintings and statues of Gordian; they added “Africanus” to his imperial titles, giving him their name, for the Libyans are called Africans in Latin. Chp V 8 History of the Roman Empire: From the Death of Marcus Aurelius by Herodian
I SERIOUSLY DONT THINK THAT YOU DONT FULLY UNDERSTAN WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IF THE NAME WAS INDUCE BY THE ROMAN AND THE TITLE WAS USED TO NAME OF THE REGION, THEN THAT IS REALLY THE NAME OF THAT ROMAN AND THERE IS NO DIFFERENT, THE PROBLEM LIES, WHAT IS THE ACTUAL NAME AND NOT A NAME THE EUROPEAN GIVEN THE PLACE OR NATION.

I pray that I will see in my lifetime that the continent of Africa choose one of their more indigenous names. Not a hybrid of a local plus romanticized name. I hope that a record more ancient than that of Eygpt or Kemet is found of the original continent which also included India and parts of the Middle East. I love how the country of Swaziland said enough and choose their own name.
I agree with you. It's the same way Lord Lugard's girlfriend (later turned wife) joined various nation together and came us Niger-area (Nigeria) simply because river Niger run across these nation.
Actually Tunisia had the name Africa before it changed into Tunisia, the continent got the name from it as before the old Tunisia was the capital of the continent, so originally Africa was a name given to Tunisia and north Africa, not whole Africa
Thank you! 👏 it comes from a Punic/Berber tribe the Afri that lived in what is now Tunisia and the Romans added the suffix -ca hence Africa, meaning land of the Afri. It's kinda funny seeing sub Saharan "Africans" saying North Africans are not real Africans when the name literally comes from them lol 😂
But the "sub saharans" are right. Most modern north africans arent africans in any way except nationality. Most modern north africans are the descendants of eurasia migrants or invaders. The afri tribe is a native african ethnic group. So yeah, try again. @julia2k8
@@Speedofdark339 literally what are you trying to accomplish? Lol you're just embarrassing yourself. The Afri were Punic so according to your logic they weren't African too. Please open a history book and learn. "Aren't Africans" smh.
I did some research on the Roman general name Scipio Africanus. According to the Roman historians, the general's real name was Publius Cornelius Scipio. Scipio Africanus was a nickname that the Romans gave him after his War Conquest in Africa over Hannibal the Great. The historians also mentioned that this nickname would mean Scipio of Africa which would mean the general was from Africa, which he was not. The word Scipio Africanus is derived from the name of Africa. The continent of Africa name is not derived from Scipio Africanus. It also mentions that the word Africa was derived from the Latin word Aprica which means sunny. The historian literature never mention one time that the name Africa was derived from Scipio Africanus the Roman general. The information also mentioned that there were 9 theories on how Africa got its name. The most profound Theory and convincing is that the name Africa was directly derived from the indigenous people of Egypt. The word for Africa in Egyptian hieroglyphs is Khafre. This word translates to Afre-Kh. I appreciate the video and new Enlightenment. However I'm a person that will do my own research, especially on a subject that is directly connected to my heritage. For my own logical reason I will go with the Egyptian name. I will never believe that people from other cultures named Africa except the indigenous people of Africa. People will do anything to take you out of your comfort zone even try to mess with your head regarding your own history. I'm not the type that people can brainwash. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
It would be interesting to know how Africans who travelled to America Before Christ/ during the Ramses dynasty or even during the 14th century Mali empire, described their land and their people to the native Americans
Marion Why yeah is be interested in that too... Since it didnt happen. Where are the vessels they used? Artifacts they took or brought back? Why didn't natives make the trip back to Africa?
Yeah guys......there is a whole lot of questions. But i strongly believe AFRICANS WERE Everywhere on this Great EARTH BEFORE SO CALL WHITE PEOPLE....IF U KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
I think to substantiate your claim there would have to be some hieroglyphic text that relates to the transliteration you are proposing. On a more mythological note, the whole Earth is referred to as the divinity Geb. Geographic location is extremely important for operating within time and space so I'm not negating it's importance, however the goal is to transcend time and space. It would also be logical to think that those who want to carve out a map for geopolitical reasons would name it according to their own liking and benefit and using a language they understand. Life is so complex. It's a very good job you're doing!
Once again a very well researched piece of work brother, congratulations. Ivan Van Sertima is where I first heard the origin of Afrika being Egyptian and Afru Ika (birthplace or motherland). Stay strong ✊🏽
nope, it comes from a Punic/Berber tribe the Afri that lived in what is now Tunisia and the Romans added the suffix -ca hence Africa, meaning land of the Afri
Alkebulan, or Ethiopia "morher of mankind". Ethiop, actually a Greek term for Black skinned people. The Atlantic was originally called " Ethiopian Sea", The continent was too large and undiscovered, for any one name, so there always were different names for regions. On maps, Africa was the name given after the Punic Wars, in honor of Scipio Africanus, after the death of Hannibal Barkas, but only the Sahel, region north of the Sahara.
With respect, the word ‘Alkebulan’ is not of African, Arabic, Phoenician, or Latin origins. It is simply an erroneous English transition of a French translation of a word in the Kabyle language (t’amazit). The Kabyle people live in the mountainous region of Algeria. The late great Senegalese professor Cheik Anta Diop, PhD original works were written in the French Language. His works weee later translated to English. In short, the French spelling clearly through off English speaking translators. "Tamrut n Iqbayliyen" is the Kabyle term for Petite Kabylie, a natural region in the mountainous area of northern Algeria. Petite Kabylie is part of the larger Kabylie region. The Arabic form of the word is ‘ Al Qabayel’ (“Kabyle Tribes") - al-Qabā'il as-Saghra, القبائل الصغرى, It is unfortunate that so many afro-centric professors jumped on the bandwagon and invented origins and meaning to hide and obfuscate the truth. Peace
I needed this. Thank you. This whole time I was led to believe it was named after some European...thank you thank you. As much as I know about my history, this just goes to show that knowledge/learning/studying is never-ending because there are multiple theories and perspectives.
I can confirm this to be true. My tribe the Zulu were once in Egypt before tracking south to current day South African. Africans came up with the name of our continent.

This was really Good! Wondering if you have ever come across the theory that on all maps the Continent of Africa is drawn much smaller than it is by comparison to other continents?
Continent of AEthiopia, "map of Africa 1600" image search. where there is now desert there was once lakes and rivers. Ethiopian Ocean as well. They changed the name of the continent but still needed the waters for navigation. King Memnon of Ethiopia, nephew of King Priam of Troy. Empress Candace of Ethiopia too much for Alexander. Lower and Upper Kemet. Egypt did not exist as a place on the map until after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. According to religion "The Biblical foundation and understanding of Egypt is that of: 1) escape, 2) temporary residence, 3) bondage."
I guess that: "Af-rui-ka" is very beautful an explanation! I rather tend to "Afarica", that is: Land of the "Afar". Latin "Afer" is "African Man", whereas "Afra" defines "African lady". Living - at Caesar's time - since thousnds of years in cities.
Hello there, can you do a video about Laguantan, Garamantes, Altava, Moors, Austuriens, Ouarsenis, Hodna, the bereber stronghold at Aures, Nemencha, Capsus, Dorsale, Cabaon and other kingdoms?
That was well done. Best I've seen on this to date. I am European decent, so I am not easily able to find much history on Africa. However, I am interested in including African history from the Neolithic to the Common Era into a game I am designing. I want it to be as accurate as possible, so to that end I would like to use the word Alkebulan for the Sub-Saharan African expansion. Is this accurate and appropriate? I do not want it to be offensive or portray anything other than a non biased lens of African early history. That also being said, if someone could point me in the direction of information on this era I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you :)

You critically forgot the derivative of Afar (earth) or the other linguistic hypothesis that Africa stems from the semitic Af (mouth/beginning) and Ar (end/reproduction) or alpha and omega as others may have it in contemporary interpretation. Either theory still leads to Afar being the derivative of the word Africa.
The word afar is not semitic, it is a cushitic word, the word af also doesn't mean mouth in Arabic, or semitic languages, only cushitic languages like Somali afar and oromo, used the word af to mean either mouth or language, like af Somali, afaan oromo, etc..stop lying you weirdo Even the tribe that used the word Afar as an ethnonym, is a Cushite tribe, the afar people Linguistically the word Af is a cushite word

This is classic coastal state exceptionalism to think that you were born on a coast makes you special. In fact I would argue you actually underachieved in coastal trading during that period considering how much trade there was going through the red sea. So please dont claim any greatness or exceptionalism for being on a coast because its pathetic. Now, to go back to the main topic of this thread you are talking to a semetic speaker and so I would challenge your source for claiming Af does not mean mouth in Amharic and ar meaning end. Also, please stop quoting white scholars and the fact they are from oxford as though that gives them more legitimacy over a native speaker of these languages. The north African country where the Roman landed in was carthage (the northern point of Africa and the closest to the Romans), the whole region was named Ifriquia or Afriqia. Carthage is Tunisia and the name Africa was given first to Tunisia.
There is no single "indigenous" name for Africa since Africa has literally thousands of different indigenous languages. The origin of the name "Africa" is LATIN.
@Lola Renee 😒 Egyptian didn't name the continent Africa, the concept of a continent only came about when the Europeans came, even d bible did not mention any tin like continent, it dint exist then
Finally someone who takes all of the theories [except the Ethiopian one which supports the Ancient Egyptian one for Afrika being indigenous] and comes up with an Afrikan origin which is Egyptian which makes it Ethiopian since of course Ethiopians were the first to settle in Egypt. Africa is actually the European rendition; the Ethiopians still spell it Afrika when you interpret it from their fidel [alphabet]. Afrika unite!
The under lying problem is the assumption that people were aware of a continent rather than just land "next door"! So to claim any name for the continent, when was there a concept of continent?
In my country sources specially an old book found from Nubia called "Metsihafe Subae" says Africa got its name from Afar to Africa.... people living in Afar Dankal, Ethiopia, where you see a live volcano boiling like water. Tahnk you.

Africa referred only to North Africa throughout history and was only applied to the whole continent in colonial times when the continent beyond the familiar Mediterranean lands was being m explored. The lands beyond the Atlas Mountains were blocked by the Great Sahara and was largely uncharted territory and not part of the known world in the mind of Mediterranean civilisations. Spreading falsehoods is not cool and us natives of North Africa have our own very different history and belong largely to the larger Mediterranean world. Africa is a North African appellation and historically refer to our lands.
This is not entirely true brother, stop spreading misinformation, the people in North Africa were referred to as the Moors, this entailed black africans that were both christian and muslim, but later in europe, also started to included arabs from the middle east, however, in the southern parts of africa, below the great sahara, you found kingdoms like Aksum, Kongo and Great Zimbabwe, the oldest of them all being Mapungubwe. However you are correct when you say North Africa was the place europeans dubbed "africa" because of the roman general that conquered it first. However the true name of the entire continent is Alkebulan, or Ethiopia, as there was a time the entire continent was known as Ethiopia
it was Scipio africanus, and they didn't get their name from him, he got its name from the people. evidence is just follow the family name africanus, and the truth is their is no family name of africanus, the family name is Scipio, he didn't even name his sons africanus they maintained the Scipio name, he only named his daughter africanus, and she lost the name once she got married. so if the name came from the romans, you have to point out the lineage that carried that africanus name, and that doesn't exist. you can't even find the name Africa in the languages the Romans used, further proving it was a name they took from elsewhere.
• “hic erit iuvenis, penes quem perfecti huiusce belli laus est, africanus ob egregiam victoriam de hannibale poenisque apellatus- This was to be the young man (scipio) who obtained the glory of completing the war, and was called Africanus because of his outstanding victory over Hannibal and the Carthaginians.”21.46.8 livy
It is said that Africa’s true name was kemmet. And that the romans changed it to Africa. It’s so much stuff out here now , I don’t know what to believe.
Proud Ethiopian exactly , quite frankly why debating a name , when the concept of continent is new and foreign . Africa , Asia , Europe are made up by the europeans .
Ivan Van Sertima said there was a tribe in the north called the Afur I believe. But he also said it derived from the Egyptian. Meaning place of beginings
Jim Denson u mean the Afar? They're a Cushitic people whom live in Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somalia. And yes they are believed to partially descend from Ancient Kemetians.
Mind blown. I've heard these influences and two others, and they all sound like they could be the actually story...buuut I don't know. Dope video as always.
From my history taught me.There Romans got it from Afriqiya a group of people somewhere around Carthage. As a result the Roman's referred to the area in and around Carthage as Africa and when young Scipio won out the punic wars, he was nicknamed Scipio Africanus. Conqueror of the Africans Also note at that time the Phoenicians had migrated to that part and had a settlement. Egypt was not part of that area. They had their name changed from Mizraim to Egypt, which meant burnt faces. A name given to them by the Greeks. The Romans referred to the darker Africans as Negra or Negroes. The Arabs referred to black Africa as Sudan, hence "Bilal al Sudan" Land of the Blacks. It referred to the Area of lower Sahara, western Africa all through to North Eastern Africa.
According to Nigerian historian Catherine Acholonu the continent of Africa was name after the Afra people of Nigeria, a branch of the Ibo people who use to live in Ancient Egypt. The region of the coast of Nigeria name Biaffra or Bi Afra is also connected to the name of Africa.
The version I learned was that Africa’s name come from a single Roman province that is now northern Libya called Africa. It was named in honor of the Roman general The was key to defeating Carthage in the Punic wars, Cornelius scipio Africanus

Interesting points...well said.

While don't say that Ethiopia was the name of all Africans first, and when the Greeks say Ethiopians they, mean Ethiopia of now
Please find the name of that teacher. I'd like to know who he is.
Proud Ethiopian that's not true. Home team already did a video on Nimrod and Troy. Ethiopian just means burnt face. Whites know blacks by their skin like Moor means black in Roman. It really just a description. Dr. Ben is Ethiopian himself.
Proud Ethiopian I'll post some lectures.

Exactly! I was looking for a comment about this.
This actually proves that the name Africa was in use as early as the Punic Wars... Which really speaks volumes.
@Joe Curry I think you miss understood the narrative. There was no C in the alphabetical and there always K.
Afrika is definitely a Egyptian word it means birth place

I highly doubt that ancient Africans did give a name to the whole continent.

They absolutely did have a grasp and concept! The fact of the matter is it was unimportant!

Why are all thw terms coming from europe? Where are the terms of the indigenous people
@minxy you have to consider that the people on the continent have been keeping records long before the Europeans.
MamaDee Hey Mama Dee! Love your channel. I agree with a name change. It would be a great unified start to something bigger.

I've been a student of African history since the early 1990's. You provided some information I was never exposed to. Thanks for sharing. Good job.
Arabic as a language only dates to the sixth century CE. It is decended from Aramaic and Nabatean.
Latin is MUCH older.

Thank you for including a clear explanation of the Ka. Very, very important.
And concerning the Name, the Shemetic grandson of Abraham, who conquered Libya, and parts of Ethiopia,Was named Ophren" which is who the continent was named after,The Ophrecans,a and later became Africa, and Africans.
haha, arabic is an african language? what nonsense.
SUPATWIN1 Some Of this info is familia to me, except the afriKan (K not C) tectonic plate ends at the coast of Occupied Palestine (aka Israel)
This makes me think of my learning of these word forms not usually taught:
Canaya & Canayan, which have been reformed to Cana & Canaan, ANNNND the name of the language Cuneiform, which is where it comes from.
Peace.
the whole world is africa
For those that believe Africa was named after Scipio Africanus are wrong. Here is a quote from roman historian livy
• “hic erit iuvenis, penes quem perfecti huiusce belli laus est, africanus ob egregiam victoriam de hannibale poenisque apellatus- this was to be the young man who obtained the glory of completing the war, and was called africanus because of his outstanding victory over Hannibal and the Carthaginians.”21.46.8 livy
roman generals were given the title Africanus from their victories in Africa
• Immediately the whole province of Africa was aroused; the people there pulled down maximus’ emblems of honor and decorated their cities with paintings and statues of Gordian; they added “Africanus” to his imperial titles, giving him their name, for the Libyans are called Africans in Latin.
I'm glad I discovered your channel it's refreshing to see something like this thank you.

Where I'm coming from in west Africa, we call our continent different ways in differents languages FARAFINA is how we call it in Mande languages FARAFINA means the land of Black People, we also hear other populations call it KAMITA or KAMA all related to the divin melanine.
Actually Tunisia had the name Africa before it changed into Tunisia, the continent got the name from it as before the old Tunisia was the capital of the continent, so originally Africa was a name given to Tunisia and north Africa, not whole Africa
and west libya. if someone is not from between tunis and tripoli they cant really call themselves africans
Yes and it is a berber (Amazigh) tribe called beni Ifri ... and later Modern day Tunisia was named after that tribe Africa

SO MUCH TO FIND OUT ABOUT. AFRICANS, # 1 NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
They didn’t travel here before christ, do you even know Jesus Christ, get to know him before you are lost forever

The Arabic form of the word is ‘ Al Qabayel’ (“Kabyle Tribes") - al-Qabā'il as-Saghra, القبائل الصغرى,
It is unfortunate that so many afro-centric professors jumped on the bandwagon and invented origins and meaning to hide and obfuscate the truth.

The word afar is not semitic, it is a cushitic word, the word af also doesn't mean mouth in Arabic, or semitic languages, only cushitic languages like Somali afar and oromo, used the word af to mean either mouth or language, like af Somali, afaan oromo, etc..stop lying you weirdo
Even the tribe that used the word Afar as an ethnonym, is a Cushite tribe, the afar people

You mentioning Somali traders seems to be out of context and trying to claim some kind of relevance in this topic. This is classic coastal state exceptionalism to think that you were born on a coast makes you special. If you are native to a coastal region its only natural you will engage and would have profited from trade in that period. You can take your oxford experts and research more about the barbaric tribes of brittany still ravaging the world to this day!

Afuraka/Afuraitkait, The Origin of the Term "Africa"
Author: Odwirafo Kwesi Ra Nehem Ptah Akhan. Powerfully informative content!
Yeah Man
Africa referred only to North Africa throughout history and was only applied to the whole continent in colonial times when the continent beyond the familiar Mediterranean lands was being m explored.
Love your point of View! I am diligently seeking TRUTH, digging thru all ........These.......LIES!
Wasn't it because a narcisstic Roman General,
Leo Africanus?
Edit: Scpio not Leo.
Some believe so yea
Wroooooong
He named himself after Africa, not the other way around
it was Scipio africanus, and they didn't get their name from him, he got its name from the people. evidence is just follow the family name africanus, and the truth is their is no family name of africanus, the family name is Scipio, he didn't even name his sons africanus they maintained the Scipio name, he only named his daughter africanus, and she lost the name once she got married.
so if the name came from the romans, you have to point out the lineage that carried that africanus name, and that doesn't exist. you can't even find the name Africa in the languages the Romans used, further proving it was a name they took from elsewhere.

Ethiopia wasn't the name of all Africa
Proud Ethiopian exactly , quite frankly why debating a name , when the concept of continent is new and foreign . Africa , Asia , Europe are made up by the europeans .
Proud Ethiopian it's was known as Aethiop. Not all of but the bulk of the eastern shores were named that during ancient times.
BenREI Ltd.
It was called like that because Ethiopians used to rule most of the eastern Africans.
Proud Ethiopian Ethiopian empire expansive even to India
Proud Ethiopian the Atlantic Ocean was known as the Ethiopian ocean
Ivan Van Sertima said there was a tribe in the north called the Afur I believe. But he also said it derived from the Egyptian. Meaning place of beginings
Jim Denson u mean the Afar? They're a Cushitic people whom live in Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somalia. And yes they are believed to partially descend from Ancient Kemetians.
Negus 97 and they live in Ethiopia
