Limousin. Ils connaissaient des gens à Oradour 😥

It is the most iconic French resistance song during the WW2. It's the French "version" (2 differents songs but same background and intention) of the Italian "Bella ciao".
Wow, so interesting how every country on Europe almost has a loved and respect nationalistic anti-resistance song from the 1940s, during the 2nd world war. Greece has one too by the great legendary songstress "Sofia Vembo". Here is her timeless and loved song about the Italians invading Greece (1940) and Ohi day (When Greece refused anexation and went to war, subsequently winning against the Italians).
ua-cam.com/video/fGe4vsJ6w0Q/v-deo.html
This is our pain ... it's difficult even now to talk about it
Couldn't be more french with La Marseillaise, our national anthem!
This song was the song of the Resistance during WW2!
Like the Marseillaise, which was written during the french revolution, it is a military song and a patriotic song, and the lyrics are beautiful but very martial! Mireille has a great voice singing it and the song itself is of course very famous!
Mireille Mathieu’s Marseillaise is not bad at all, too…

The "Chant des Partisans" was the most popular song of the Free French and French Resistance during World War II.
The piece was written and put to melody in London in 1943 after Anna Marly heard a Russian song that provided her with inspiration. Joseph Kessel and Maurice Druon wrote the French lyrics. It was performed by Anna Marly, broadcast by the BBC and adopted by the maquis. The lyrics of the song revolve around the idea of a life-or-death struggle for national liberation. After the war the "Chant des Partisans" was so popular, it was proposed as a new national anthem for France. It became for a short while the unofficial national anthem, next to the official "La Marseillaise". Anna Marly also wrote and performed a more introspective song, "La Complainte du Partisan", which was later adapted and translated into English as "The Partisan". It was most famously covered by Leonard Cohen. The two songs are sometimes confused.
In Korea, the melody of the song was adopted as the march of the Korean Liberation Army.
As grandson of Belgian partisans of ww2, this means more to me than even the national anthem. It describes so well what those 'maquis' fighters experienced... if they were taken, the nazis either shot them in cold blood or deported in concentration camps. The song is sung every remembrance day in France (11th of November) in front of the war heroes memorials. My paternal grandmother was deported in Germany to work in factories making ammunition where she find ways to sabotage the nazi war effort, and managed to escape before she was transfered to a concentration camp and seek refuge in flanders, while my maternal grandfather was message carrier in the 'maquis' near Liege.
note : grenade is also the French word for the pomegranate fruit but here is used in its military sense, a hand thrown explosive.

I love how it is obviously not a part of his culture nor his historical knowledge, but he's genuinely into discovering new stuff.
It's kind of naïve but in the good way
Whaou....Mireille mathieu, a great French singer very well known in Germany, Russia and various countries . Great voice and a lot of gorgeous songs.
My grand dad taught this song to each of his grand children. Missing him.😭
Hi Dereck! Yes it sounds like a military song for the reasons you mentioned. It's still very much known as the anthem of the people who resist to the Nazi invador in WWII.
If you're not connected to the national history it's very difficult feel it. It's like a last breath. Go for life, it's the last chance, not another choice. It's not only emotionnal, it's real, and it's now. Grand fathers grand mothers, thank you.
"Oh friend, do you hear the crows' black flight above our plains?1
Oh friend, do you hear the quiet screams of a land bound by chains?
Oh friends, partisans, workers and peasants, get your gears
Tonight the foe shall know the price of blood and of tears.
Rise up from the mine, step down from the hills, oh comrades!
Pick up from the straw, the machine guns, the pistols and grenades.
Oh you, the killers, with bullets or with knives, kill at sight!
Oh you, saboteurs, beware of your burden: dynamite.
It's us that are breaking the bars of countless jails,
For liberty
Hatred chasing us, and hunger pushing us,
Misery.
There are far-away lands where people in their beds
Dream and sigh.
But here, don't you see that we walk and we kill,
And we die.
Yes, we die.
Here each one of us knows, when he comes and goes, what he does.
Friend, if you fall, a new friend will step out of the shadows.
Tommorow, dark blood will dry on the roads under the sun
So sing, oh comrades, in the night freedom
To us listens.
So sing,
So come now, sing
Sing, Comrades!"

I need reactions of iconic Mireille Mathieu songs. You are missing a lot Dereck.
Hi Derek, with this video, you touch the depths of the French soul. Thank you very much for this! Your channel is really awesome ! Regards, Cyril
N'oublions jamais, n'oublions jamais....
Yes !
La Marseillaise sung by Mireille Mathieu is absolutely beautiful.
She's incredible.
A very beautiful patriotic song and if you want another song about the liberation of Paris by Mireille Mathieu : Paris en colère (Paris enrage)
Eh oui on a ressorti notre playmobil décérébrée

Goosebumps
I remember learning this song at elementary school. Now that I think about it even though it's a verry important song to the french that's a pretty violent song to teach children (the marseillaise is as well)
La Marseillaise is a patriotic song of the French Révolution. Serge Gainsbourg sang a reggae version of La Marseillaise. Strong music , Serge live !
The partisans' song is a anthem to the French resistance fighters (passive or active) during the occupation of France by the German army during the Second World War.
The occupation changed the behavior of French people like my grandparents. For example, denunciation is no longer a very popular act in France.
I suggested this song because you did a lot of french songs and even wore a France shirt, I guess a big part of your audience is french. So why not make something original and pay homage to one of the most important song in France's history. And yeah, it's also to know a fun fact about french culture: Mireille Mathieu can be crazy about her "r", french impersonators do rrrRRRrrrrrRRRrrrrRrrrRRRrrrrr at every "r" when they do her.
Listen the original version with Anna Marly, so waw 🥰
You should listen to Mireille Mathieu ‘ together we’ll strong’ with Patrick Dufy…
She is from Avignon, south of France. That's why she rolls the "r"
Not only that.
She worked on the Rs for La Marseillaise because it's a lot closer to what the song sounded like.
If you watch old films or hear old french songs, or even Piaf, you can hear the R being really rolled or pronunced.
Oh yeah we saw that in school.
Merci

The Song of the Partisans
Friend, do you hear the black flight of crows on our plains?
Friend, do you hear the muffled cries of the country being chained?
Hey, supporters, workers and peasants, this is the alarm.
Tonight the enemy will know the price of blood and tears.
Go up the mine and down the hill, comrades!
Pull the guns, grapeshot, grenades out of the straw.
Ahoy, bullet and knife killers, kill fast!
Ahoy, saboteur, mind your burden: dynamite...
It is we who break the prison bars for our brothers.
Hate chasing us and the hunger that pushes us, misery.
There are countries where people in bed have dreams.
Here, we, you see, we walk and we kill, we die...
Here everyone knows what he wants, what he does when he passes.
Friend, if you fall a friend comes out of the shadows in your place.
Tomorrow black blood will dry in the bright sun on the roads.
Sing, companions, in the night Liberty listens to us...
Friend, do you hear these muffled cries of the country being chained?
Friend, do you hear the black flight of crows on our plains?
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh...
Oh friend, do you hear the crows' black flight above our plains?
Oh friend, do you hear the quiet screams of a land bound by chains?
Oh friends, partisans, workers and peasants, get your gears
Tonight the foe shall know the price of blood and of tears.
Rise up from the mine, step down from the hills, oh comrades!

The song of supporters, or song of liberation, is the hymn of French resistance during the occupation by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. The music, initially composed in 1941 on a Russian text, is due to French Anna Marly, former Russian emigrant who in 1940 had left France for London.
On May 17, 1943, the melody, whistled, becomes the indicative of an emission of free France broadcast by the BBC. The words in French are written on May 30, 1943 by Joseph Kessel, also of Russea origin, and his nephew Maurice Druon who both came to join the free French forces. Germaine Sablon, then Kessel's companion, will be the designer by interpreting it after the next day in the film of propaganda Three Songs About Resistance.
The original manuscript, brought clandestinely in France in July 1943, is classified as a historical monument.
He wants to start a war lmao
What an idea !!! Aux armes, Dereck !!
song resistance
This is is original version but not the best version ! This song is the song of the French resistance in which my father fought ( in the "Plateau des Glières) to free our country
I like this song 👍💙
If you want to listen to two other iconic resistance songs please listen to Grandola vila morena a portuguese sonf, this song was the starter signal of the révolution in 1974 ( revolucao dos cravos) and Bella ciao but not the soundtrack of la casa de papel but the version of the Italian rock band Modena city ramblers fantastic version.

Hi Dereck. Without judging the song whose symbol I like, I think that there are some that make you go too far in the reactions and that this type of music is not very appropriate for your channel
I think the same. It goes too far and too disproportionate. Dereck, drop this homophobic artist and against "marriage for all" in 2013.

I'm a french "person" and hearing basically the monarchy anthem before that song is king of a blasfemy....anyway listen to Leo Ferré take on that..'cause that's the real one...
Only the lyrics are important

Tbh I don’t think this very powerful song does well with a solo singer. It’s Le chant des partisans, not Le chant de la partisane avec chœur. Orchestration on this one is pretty lame too, drums and harmonica don’t fit in really. The humming is everything, growing as the song progresses and more partisans join the ranks.
It's a mitary song.
Where is Pardonne Moi Ce Caprice de Enfant? These patreon guys are dissapointing 😪
Honestly, it s hard to get a reaction of Dereck about Mireille, I ve tried during 2 months but ... nothing
Question de goût
this choice is weird...
Noooooooooo !!!!!!! Help ! Noooooooooo !!!!!!
