When they first did this duet before the video was released it was shocking. It was on an awards show. They did a duet of Does He Love You. You can tell they were having fun.
That’s one of my favorite duets I’ve ever heard, any genre.

There are three versions to this song: Kelly's, Reba's, and their duet. What I love most about having three versions is that each tells a different story. Kelly's tells it from her point of view watching her mother's struggle with her father, the duet shows a domestic violent situation where people only look on because the victim isn't ready to walk away from the situation. Reba's version doesn't have a video but to me it sounds like her talking to/about her younger self and how the mistakes she made in the past shape who she is now. This is what I love about music videos, they not only convey asong's message but can tweak the narrative to fit a slightly different story.
It's just like when Reba did her take on "If I Were a Boy" in which she shifts the narrative to reflect her real life problems as she was currently going through a divorce when she recorded it. The music video reflects that showing her walking through an empty house with a beautiful dress with a ridiculously long train that drags behind her like the weight of her past. At the end of the video she symbolically rips off the train and walks away showing that the divorce was a fresh start not a failure to get stuck in. I love Reba's videos and their storytelling.

I’ve been the Kelly in this. It’s not an easy way to live. Reba is supposed to be the mother in law I believe. Regardless it’s hard to watch and listen to. BUT thankfully my kids will not say “because of you!” Plus, Momma here wouldn’t stand for it! 💜🙏💜
