Lead Singer of A-Ha was on Masked Singer UK and sang this song...they STILL didn't get that it was him. He has such a distinctive voice. Fun Fact...Hollywood started them on the fast track to fame with Take On Me, and The Sun Always Shines on TV. They quit and went back to their own country...couldn't stand the Hollywood machine. They were young, hot, talented, and GROUNDED.
Though the guy who signed them to Warner, got them a great manager(who kept ANYONE who would take them off course away from them- including booze, drugs, & groupies)- their early albums were all written, taped, etc in London. Hollywood had no stake in them at all!! Even both videos were taped in London. Which is where they've spent many months of the next 40 yrs. But they ARE grounded, humble, silly, and ALWAYS put their music first...
@@janetbelrose2784 yes, true! I just meant that once the Industry recognized them and tried to lead them astray or take them off course, they stayed true to themselves and their purpose, which was the music. They never became "huge" because they weren't willing to change to fit a certain image at the time. Those two songs, and especially the video became so popular, they could have sold themselves out. So happy they didn't.
Great job, both reactions to this 80's classic, and thanks to Tara for suggesting both! A-ha is an amazing band that deserves more attention. The follow up to Take on me, The sun always shines on TV is epic!
I loved all the Unplugged versions that MTV had! This you could hear the lyrics better but nothing like the video, IMO. Thanks again for the reactions.
THANK YOU AB FOR DROPPING BOTH THESE VERSIONS TOGETHER! YOUR REACTIONS ARE SECOND TO NONE. Many of us GenX lived some of the best and hardest times of our lives inbetween the 30yrs of the two versions. The uptempo 1984 represents the carefree of our youth. This version 30yrs later is reflecting of our choices and that it truly never better “to safe than sorry”. THANK YOU AB. GEN X “I’LL BE GONE IN A DAY OR TWO” AND SEE THERE. MUCH LUV. ❤ Tara da OG
I was a teenager in the 80´s... and offcourse i like the original.. but... ho god... i prefer this version 10000 times... its so beautiful... Hugs from Portugal!!
That’s how I feel about dancing in the dark. A guy from the Netherlands I think did an acoustic cover and I feel the song makes more sense and is more meaningful than the original. I can understand the point of the song
I grew up with MTV and this song, but I actually like this acoustic version as much as the original, if not more. Edited to add: you can see how this song means to my generation by how everyone is silently singing along
I’m not sure i know anyone who does not respect Morton? Great voice. Great person. They would need to have issues and I would be sad for them. ❤ Tara da OG
I think mellow means emotional and thoughtful. But remember when the Eagles went bonkers unplugged before Glen Frye died? It’s just how a band wants to rock it I guess. ❤ Tara da OG

How the h*ll do people not nail Morton’s voice? I could nail it from Take on me to Underneath the makeup?
Ok I saw it now and holy cow I don’t know how they did not recognize Morton’s voice? His range is huge and tone very distinctive.

Liked the original, but after 49 years old it shows the maturity in his voice and the song.
Sorry it's 40 years.
I believe he was closer to 59 yo, MTV unplugged was in 2017... MH will be 65 tomorrow; 9/14/24!!!
A-ha are masters at the music hiding the lyric, and I love it.

You’re welcome. Thank you AB. Always. ❤Tara OG
There's a huge and impressive a-ha catalog to browse if you're interested. Their live concerts from South America are something special...
💯 agree

a-ha are well known for their dark lyrics and meaningful lyrics but wrapping them up in up tempo music

I agree that slowing it down does better service to the lyrics and makes the meaning feel richer.
3:45 I've always loved this song but I remember the exact moment and person who showed me this version!

Funny thing is he was on the Masked Singer, he even sung this song, and they didn’t know who it was!
I loved this song after it was featured on second Deadpool movie. Also, that lead singer is still sexy as hell 😊
My favorite band and thank god you like Morten’s voice lol ❤😂
I’m not sure i know anyone who does not respect Morton? Great voice. Great person. They would need to have issues and I would be sad for them. ❤ Tara da OG
Child of the 80s here and I gotta say I like the slow down version better❤
Beautiful
Thank you.
Don't choose, enjoy both.
💯 right. ❤ Tara da OG
I prefer this one. It's offers a nice change from the studio version.
You should listen to Ryan Adams cover T Swifts "Blank Spaces." Same effect as this song. This performance was great.
I’ll see you all in a day or two.
❤ Tara da OG
This is unplugged hombre!!!!! Of course it’s going to be way more mellow!!!! Just saying!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!🍸
I think mellow means emotional and thoughtful. But remember when the Eagles went bonkers unplugged before Glen Frye died? It’s just how a band wants to rock it I guess. ❤ Tara da OG
I thought that was Rob Lowe 😂
They both have aged like fine wine! ❤Tara da OG
my brain sounds a lot like you. just saying 🕯️
Watch Deadpool 2
This sucks. Just sayin ✌️😎
You’re deaf then
Bye ✌️
I always loved the video, it came out when I was in elementary school. This is my first time hearing this. Both are phenomenal in different ways.
