Just had this guitar last week and wow it's growing on me. It's like a Martin that you would wanna bring anywhere and habe so much fun playing. The new body shape is so comfortable and is reall a gigging guitar.
It's growing on my in just 5 minutes 29 seconds. Curious about it, I can't say initially I liked the looks.. but it really is a guitar that can "grow with you". and it's a Martin, and SOUNDS like a Martin!
More of a sales pitch than a first impression. A little bit heavy handed in the playing department, but I do like her personality and love how enthusiastic she is.
Yeah, I wondered if they're compensating for flaws in the guitars response to softer touch? Does it sound thin or washy unplugged, does it lack sustain?
Perhaps, but slotted headstocks are easier to break so this may be a better choice for most players that leave their guitars out . I’ve been building guitars for over 40 years and build both slotted and solid headstocks.
Angela Petrilli just convinced me to buy this guitar. Not because she is drop dead gorgeous. But, she shows just what this guitar can do. Just paid off my Les Paul Classic ($2,000). And, just so you know, I am 66 years old. Been single for 21+ years. Been a lonely journey. But, I have my Harley and my Les Paul, so not too bad. Well, maybe a little. But this lovely lady just convinced me to buy this acoustic from Martin. Just hope I can learn to play as well as her.
I haven’t played one and would certainly like too. Perhaps I’m being close minded, but I’m having a hard time with the visual aesthetics. I really want to like it though.
Hmm, found myself a little concerned about intonation of the guitar on this video at :23 in. Then at :45, the tight shot doesn't match the audio. (Video producer, musicians do notice these things.) That's when I bailed out and looked for other videos about this guitar. Learned that you can fairly easily change neck angle (without a re-set) and fine-tune scale. Those are features that make this worth a look.
intonation is pretty bad - again at 2:00. The pickup sounds very piezo-ish. The mic sound is nice tho - at 4:40. I love the access to upper frets. I wonder if this type construction will break in and gain sweetness over time and playing.
@@bobh2185 The difficulty in adjusting neck angle and scale length with acoustic guitars has been a problem for a long time. This would be a great solution. Looking forward to experiencing this model in person.
If she likes hers Bright, so be it ^_^ It's the *EQ.. not to mention it's a new guitar.. Mine is a vintage D35.. so I know how the wood needs to be aged for tone.. but this sound setting is all electronic settings (*eq & microphones) SHE selected.. You can listen to other people play it with a much deeper acoustic setting... ~ I Like it.. It may well be my 2nd Martin
Texas Phoenix well, he just voiced his opinion. I agree with him, yeah it’s a great video with great playing and good sound, but it’s not a product demo. People simply expect those from the stores. Sometimes stores upload something more “personal”, which is still great.
@@nicholastotoro7721 Exactly my thought. Sounds like a Taylor. Doesn't have that Martin heavy bass to my ears. Not bad, but doesn't sound like a Martin to me.
Well, It looked like you were really excited about this instrument. If not, your a great actress. I'm buying it from Sweetwater this week. Listened to Whiskey Down and your live cover of Crazy on You. 👍
That neck joint was invented by Murat Sezen (R.İ.P.) in 1991. He didnt get a patent for it. So the luthiers of the world and major companies enjoy it and but show respect to Murat Sezen.
The Martin SC-13E currently retails for $1,600.00 at Sweetwater. Want to save at least 1,100 bucks, or more? This guitar is clearly modelled after the Yamaha APX which is one of the best selling acoustic electric guitars in history. Yamaha has been making the APX style guitar for over 33 years. You could buy a used APX500 or even a new APX600, have it professionally set up, ask them to change the saddle, bridge pins, and nut to bone, and now, you now have a stage worthy guitar that will do everything the Martin SC-13E will do. I am not saying that the Yamaha 500/600 and the Martin SC-13E are made out of the same materials, or with the same attention to detail, they are not. However, the budget APX, IF set up correctly, would totally get the job done, and you would not be afraid to take it places or worry as much about it getting damaged, or stolen. However, If having Martin on the headstock is super important to you, and you got the cash, buy the Martin, it will hold its value well.
I'm more interested in the natural sound of a guitar, not what you can do with electronics and stomp boxes. Not enough real sound here to get me interested in this guitar.
Hopefully there would be “acoustic only” demos later somewhere. I am hoping this guitar would still maintain every part of purely acoustic sound you expect. Some “ergonomic” guitars are too “focused”.
Agree. I've been trying to get an accurate unplugged sound but hard to come by. I have read some reviews on line that say the guitar was really built to be plugged in.
Ms ANGELA,, how do you related to George Petrilli- the owner of famous Italian restaurants in Culver City? I used to take care of his wife, few years ago... she’s so dear and their daughter... you just reminded me of them...nice playing, thank you!
I sure hope Guitar Center will have these in Stock to try! Y'all are bad about having instruments available for demo. It's why most people end up ordering from your competitors. Like Sweetwater.
I'm a singer/songwriter, and I loved the way she just seemed to drive the rhythm hard. Most demos don't do that, but I need to know how a constant rhythm is going to sound while providing harmony and support for my vocal melodies.
The best ever made now it's just a sound that can't be nothing but Martin great sound for many years but now that talkamine I'm not sure on spelling but it's Chinese I think has a great sound but nobody has ever came close to that Martin ring
Every maker would have their own sound and yes, there is that certain signature Martin tone that we can immediately recognize and will only be heard thru their guitars. I believe you are talking about Takamine which is a Japanese maker. Some of their guitars maybe are made in China and the high end ones in Japan.
Love the review but thought it wasnt right on as the guitar needs to be played in a way to show case the sound better and the guitar to shine thought it could have shown in a better light especially for a Martin

I didn't like the over-driven sound of this acoustic guitar. I generally don't like distorted sounds. It's way over-done today. A little finger picking brings out the best in this guitar. Not a good demo of this guitar.
I'm a Martin guy, but I tried it. Eh, seems like the model will fizzle out. Unless you play an x series you'll find it's not like the solid body you're used to...at least in my opinion. At best It's a giger and a good guitar for somebody looking for a step up from one of there non solid models. Bolt on and will get ya by.
Angela has always been a fine player but these newer Martin models fitted with Fishman electronics sound tinny, scratchy, and thin - more like a Taylor than a Martin. Without the Fishman it might have that famous Martin "sound" but activated it's just not there. Liked it better when Martin limited their use of electronics on so many models. Once I see that "E" attached to a Martin model number I'm turned off.
