    Well... we're finally getting there. But by the time this gets more or less perfected, I think we'll just be able to repair the spine with genetic engineering (or grow a functional one, in case there never was one). But of course exoskeleton technology will have multiple applications, and not just for people with spine injuries, so it's nice to see progress.

    • @Jimmison007
      @Jimmison007 10 років тому +1

      i hope this is true, spinal injuries are very complicated even if we could grow spines it would be a huge step to put them into people

    • @goomba008
      @goomba008 10 років тому

      James S Indeed. I meant we would probably trigger growth of the spine in the patients themselves, probably using embryonic stem cells.

    Ekso Bionics has an exoskeleton that uses no batteries. It uses a system of counterweight to lift and transfer the load of extremely heavy objects. The counterweights could even be used to generate power for additional lifting. Ekso may not be FDA approved for home use yet, but I still like the company.

      I cannot do anything else but bow to your courage which is no douptfully greater than mine, but its not fair you know. This device should be a gift. A gift to all people who had the misfortune to be like this. There are people who have no problem and still wont be able to work or even so, they are able to work but they do not earn much. Think how much more difficult would be for disabled people. Why is this device should be unavailable to them? 70K? Really?

    • @1PceXperience
      @1PceXperience 10 років тому +3

      Ulver27 The invention IS a gift. But you're not taking in the production cost. Whose gonna help pay for the production cost? Whose gonna pay the workers who spend hours upon hours producing these things? They have families to feed.

    外骨格型ロボット装具は、さまざまな駆動方式が考えられますが、これはシンプルすぎて、体への負担が大きく、力加減や杖の先を引っ掛けることで転倒の可能性もあって、あまり良いものには見えませんね。とくに、体にベルトで縛り付けて、血行と筋肉の収縮を妨げている点が、発想としてもややナンセンスなのが気になります。
    エアーチューブ方式のほうが、体への負担が少なく、関節が保護でき、より複雑で滑らかな動きをサポートして、無理なく大きな力が出せそうです。そのぶん構造はやや複雑になって、装着に手間がかかり、多少コストが増したとしても、やはりエアーチューブ方式のほうが良いような気がします。
    とはいえ、外骨格型ロボット装具の普及の初期段階では、コスト面からも、このシンプルな方式の選択もアリのような気がします。30年前にインラインスケートを車靴として使うときに、ロフストランドクラッチ型の松葉杖と併用する方法を思いついたときのことを思い出しました。ReWalkと車輪が付いたリウマチ杖型のCross-shaperを組み合わせて、杖が開く角度や車輪の動きを電動でサポートする方式もアリかもしれません。
