- Skiathos - The European St. Maarten and a famous place to watch lots of low landings of airplanes. Right behind the runway airplanes have to cross a street and since the runway only has a length of 1700 meters they have to pass it quite low to catch the perfect touchdown point. The place behind the runway became the biggest tourist attraction of the small island in greece. Skiathos is the place to be and usualy we visit the greek airport around June every year, but this year it` s not possible due to known circumstances. Anyway there won` t be a year without a Skiathos video - So here is the best of Skiathos, best of year 2014 - 2019 at the most beautiful airport in greece.

Wow, great shots. I had never heard of this airport before. I find it incredible that people would stand behind these jets with no eyegoggles or face masks. Accellerated sand or some other small object hitting you in the eye is no joke..
True, so many people get eye and facial injuries and many broken/sprained limbs from being blown over....madness, but fun to watch 🙂

No sabía de que existía otro peculiar y riesgoso lugar donde aterrizan los aviones en un aeropuerto peligroso, pero que a las personas no les importan los riesgos que corren al ponerse cerca de uno de estos inmensos aviones, con tal de sentir la emoción y la adrenalina del aterrizaje y despegues de estos aparatos. I flew in to Skiathos in about 1986. First Greek holiday at the age of 12. What I remember is the fire truck being hand driven, and customs in a portacabin. Was a different age.

Both Skiathos and St. Maarten are outstanding places to watch aircraft, however I much prefer St. Maarten because the airport and the surrounding tropical scenery is far superior, IMO.

What's going on at 13:00? Two planes on runway looked like they turned back or something.
That's common for all aircraft landing at Skiathos. They're required to turn around and backtrack down the runway to reach the exits to the apron area.

How long do you typically wait for a plane to land/takeoff? Are departures and arrivals frequent?
First you got to do taxi to line up with the runway it takes time for all the people to get on board so u have to wait quite a bit and for landings it depends on how long it takes to get to the other country and it takes 10 minutes to go a bit down line up with the runway then land
It's amazing that there is any sand left on that beach.

Some of those pilots are way too kind. Those landing should approach at a lower elevation and those ready to take off should back up a little.
