Thanks,Great info ,sweet ride. My 71 Torino Cobra 429 CJ is sagging. Im going to replace leaf springs and shocks. What configiration would you recommend for an inch lift for a better stance , handling and ride , thats not too much for the old unibody to handle? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You’re very welcome, and thanks, I really appreciate it. That’s a sweet car you got too, don’t see those old cobra jets very often at all. Well it all depends on what you want out if the car and what you’re planning on doing with it. I’ve replaced my front coil springs with standard height springs and cut them down to lower the front two inches, and also installed a 1-1/8 front sway bar. My leaf springs are 1 inch higher than stock, but before that I used air shocks which I am still currently running but they’re only pumped up just enough to act as a regular shock, I am planning on going with an adjustable rear set of shocks and front coil overs with 1 inch dropped upper control arms to give me that Shelby drop and handling in the future. As is though my car handles really well, rides good and takes corners well. So I’d recommend a similar set up for yours since our cars are basically the same frame wise, except yours being a big block cobra jet, yours should already have a 1 inch front sway bar from the factory so I’d just put new bushings on it. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I’ll help the best I can. Thanks for watching.

Nice install. I was looking at my 68 Torino today and thought the back was sagging a little too much for my taste. I was considering changing out the leaf springs and your video popped up! What kind of air shocks are you running? And do you like the ride of the shocks?

Thank you very much! Very cool car man, yeah they all sag alittle after 50+ years.
They are Monroe shocks from Oriellys and yeah they ride pretty good, no complaints. Now with the new springs though I don’t really run that much air in them and I’m gonna be changing them for some double adjustable shocks eventually. The springs definitely made a huge difference in ride quality and handling. Overall though if you just want to get your ride height up a bit for a cheap cost the air shocks do a great job for that. I recommend not airing them up all the way as they just mount to the floor pan and the stiffer they are and the less the spring is actually holding the weight the more pressure on the floor pan the shocks out and could potentially bust through the floor so just keep that in mind. The most I ever kept in mine bed the spring swap was 60 PSI. Hope this helps and good luck on your build.

Was there some upcharge or something on your springs, cuz 850 a pair seems really high.

Yeah I got the improved handling springs, plus I got 1 inch higher than stock added on to so it all adds to the cost. Overall though, worth the money because they are a high end very well made good quality product. I’ve put probably about 1,000 miles on them so far and they ride and perform great. Hope this answers all your questions or any you may of had.

@@sheldonkepley4585 because it’s a fairlane 500, I installed the c stripe because I’ve always liked them but obviously couldn’t remove the trim because there would be holes so I plan on removing the trim when I do the body work. Also a fun fact, my car is a 68 but I installed the 69 stripe and tail light panel and grille because I like them better, don’t know if you noticed. I also plan on installing the 69 fastback 3 hash marks on the sail panel vs the 5 that 68 has.
