So this is the new JBL Xtreme 3… its essentially a refined version of the JBL Xtreme 2 but there are some key improvements and differences to point out. Some of which I like and some others not so much. But regardless if you’re looking for a portable bluetooth speaker that you can use at home but also take on the go with you… I don’t think you can go wrong with the Xtreme 3.

Got the Extreme on offerup for 70 dollars, no charging cable but found one at the Goodwill for $1.50
Removed the grill and washed it up and looks brand new now. Great deal
just got the xtreme 3 refurbished for 120, god i don't know in the US but here in europe it is so easy to find a dirt cheap one
3 years later and this video is still one of the BEST reviews on youtube. Specially having the audio synced with each speaker. Thumbs up!

The sound pallet may be updated in the future though via software. They did this with the Xtreme 2 as well.
You could update it via the app and after it sounded much fully, more balanced.
That's awesome. Back in 1992, I just put headphones on my head and listened to music that was fuller than this. Just because marketing names their "software" and "technology" doesn't make it better. This thing sounds like shit.
@@ko7577 If you were judging it entirely through the video... well that's your mistake. The comparison can give you an IDEA of the sound profile in comparison, but nowhere close to real-world experience.
It's weird that you would have an issue with customization and versatility. I personally love the ability to modify and customize certain aspects of anything I buy. I have the Extreme 3 and it sounded great, but they released a firmware update allowing you to adjust the Bass/Mid/High on the speaker itself. Couples with the EQ settings of my phone, I can change the sound of the speaker dramatically to match my personal taste. I don't see that as anything other than a win, but seeing as I was only 2 years old when you were wearing those headphones, I assume your age may have you behind the curve of these technological advancements.
@@Shibby7634 Fair enough, good points. I was having a bad day. And my guess is that everyone has a certain "sound" they're used to, yeah. Some people like me look more for outrageous volume with clarity coming in second. Other people prefer quiet music, and volume doesn't matter as much. It's an interesting debate. Lots of people love this sound system, so I'm in the minority here.
And it's definitely not the worst I heard. lol After I watched this video I flat went out and bought a couple of speaker sets and they were way worse than this. I finally got Edifiers for my desktop, which I'm sure some people think they're crap too. To me it was the right balance of volume/clarity. I look mainly for volume, though, so yeah if you love really crystal clear audio, take my opinion with a grain of salt.
I was also listening on my old computer speakers and the right speaker had gone out... so I probably didn't hear the full depth of the sound on these.

I tried the extreme 3 in a shop and it sounded amazing.the highs where crisp while the bass was balanced and in no way sounded woofy.

The 3 has clearer treble but its lacking something in the midrange while the 2 has good midrange but is lacking the treble 🤦♂️
At first the new design looked stupid but I’m starting to dig it. Kind of like a throwback to the original logo they had on their og speakers. Looks more durable as well.

I have one and, must say it’s a downgrade. Its way more electronic sounding and less natural. Also less full of sound
Everybody is forgetting that Xtreme 3 has usb c port which means you can charge the speaker with a portable battery power bank. Now you can play your music all day without worry about the battery dying. For this reason I’m getting the Xtreme 3 but I’ll wait until it goes on sale.

Just get the newer one all old models of JBL have battery issues. I have the charge 3 the flip 4 both died and wouldn’t hold a charge. If you UA-cam search battery replacement for all these models on Google you will see literally a freaking forum dedicated to battery issues. Third party battery makers are laughing to the bank.

This is the second review of this speaker I’ve seen that’s played solid drum and bass as comparison tracks.
I still use my xtreme 1 and have no problems with it. I find it sounds fine but maybe just ok inside, however, outside sounds better. It really throws the sound outside. I also dumped a huge amount of water on it by mistake and it still works fine. I don't find speaker technology changes that much within just a few years to justify the upgrade cost.

I can connect the Partybox 100 and Xtreme 2 through dual AUDIO option in Android phone bluetooth option it has less lag or not at all. But this only works with both JBL brand if i use different brand like Altec Lansing the sound lag is terrible not good.

Its 100 Watts RMS for the 3, when plugged in.. (2 times 25 for the low end, same for the tweeters)
It's so fantastic that the Xtreme 3 Charges through type C, and appears to charge using the Power Delivery standard, meaning if you have a USB C power bank that supports PD charging it should fast charge the Xtreme 3
Can you still listen to it while it charges? I know Sony will not let you.
@@adamvanhorn5328 yes, you can. If you’re not using the included power adapter you may not get the performance boost, but you can definitely use while charging.

i just got my speaker about three days ago. its not loud the first time you rock it but when you have played over 10 to 15 song on 100% it will tend to get louder.

i have 2 xtreme 2s that i got off ebay lol. originally i wanted just one, but the one they sent was defective. the bass was rattly! so they sent another but actually ended up letting me keep the original unit. i managed to fix the first one (it had an air leak) and now i have a bangin bluetooth setup
I love my Xtreme 2 I got 1 month ago I haven’t heard the Xtreme 3 but judging from what people have been telling me is that it’s not worth spending extra also you won’t be disappointed with the Xtreme 2 it has insanely crisp sound quality deep punchy bass and it gets loud asf without distortion it also is well balanced
You said you got an Xtreme 2 one month ago. That should mean you have the GG model which is the one with the most amount of bass it has even more bass than the Xtreme 3

I think i'll stick with my Xtreme 2 for now or perhaps buy another one now that it's on sale. The Xtreme 3 seems like a bit of a step backwards in terms of sound and I can't seem to get along with the new design language.
Are you having any trouble with the charging flap on your Xtreme 2? Mine is super hard to open and it has started to tear...
@@matlov1684 I've had my original one since 2019 and it hasn't had any issues with tearing or anything. I bought a black one last week and it's quite hard to open but I think that's just cause it's new, it should get easier to open over time. You might have to lever it open with something small like me if you don't have long nails
@@matlov1684 They’re hard to open because the speaker is waterproof. So it’s like that to keep a tight seal.
My extreme 2 is already on the way from Amazon. It sounded like the best for the price so I went with it.
Yes jbl allow you to use no dsp mode.. and u can use your on eq app with low frequency mode for your own sound signiture

Listening to another review, it sounded like the 3 had more bass, but that could be because of it having higher highs. I just bought a 2 a few days ago and liked it so much that I got another one last night. Basing it on that the 2 sounded better than the 3. Now I'm starting to question my research. The fact the 3 has a type-c USB was a plus over the 2's charger. Dunno. Still have time to take the 2s back and pick up a 3.

Just got my xtreme 3, it's awesome!!!.
I like that new desing. More agressive, cooler, with for people means something strong, special. The bass is richier, more clear and also in medium and highs, mainly the bass. Just that cost 350 is for me unactepted, because u can get for 300 original boombox. Usb c and party boost is only good diference ( yea, also weight ).
Once that price tag of Xtreme 3 drops down to around 275 then ill review it not that big of an upgrade compair to the xtreme 2 to cost so much more

Can you run your laptop sound thru these without a big hassle, I want no wires to laptop? Laptop is too quiet for my bad hearing. I heard one of the JBL's in Walmart the other day and couldn't believe how loud it was for the size....reminded me of my old Bose shelf speakers.

Just a fyi for people who have the xtreme 2 and wanna upgrade but can’t afford the xtreme 3 or the boom box for under 40$ you can modify the xtreme 2 by purchasing 2 4 inch 90degree pvc elbows they fit perfectly on the passive radiators on the xtreme2 you can also color match if you’d like and you can add a 2 foot section of 4 inch pvc to each side make sure you fill it with poly Fill or it sounds like crap, but it’s a cheap way to improve bass and sq doesn’t look the best but you can test with different lengths and elbows they all fit the passive radiators perfectly I encourage you to experiment with different lengths but make sure you use polyfil
Imma stay with my xtreme 1. The only thing I like that is new is a slimmer charger and the charger port cover

I have both irl and the 2 definitely has more of a surround sound affect with it where the 3 has more bass and up front volume, kind of sounds like a bigger charge 4 but clearer.
Edit: also the xtreme 2 has more weight to it, might be bigger magnets, or the xtreme 3 just has a much lighter design.
So damn light, it's twice the volume and half the weight of my last speaker.

The USB c Dingle thing you get with the new Samsung phones to plug a flash drive in to the phone and read your files the same can be done if you put the adapter in the USB C port it'll play whatever you have in your flash drive mine does!
The fact that the extreme 2 is now cheaper and I couldn't tell the difference from the new one is cool.
Miss my og xtreme was a real head turner when it first came out, my lipo battery died and then I ruined the charging cable and that was the end of that, battery only lasted 1 year and used it with the cable for the next 2

Hi everyone, I have 2 jbls flip 5 speakers. Love how they sound on stereo mode but I want to upgrade to something even better. Would you recommend selling them to get the xtreme 3? I went to a store and listened to charge 5 and it didn't convinced me, I felt my two speakers were louder. What would you guys recommend? I want something louder with a clear sound and more bass

Like you mentioned, My personal preference is also for Xtreme 2 over Xtreme 3. Xtreme 3 don't have microphone to make calls, so a bummer.

The Xtreme 3 is IP67 waterproof and dustproof compared to the Xtreme 2 which is IPX7, which is why I'm leaning towards the 3 due to working on a dusty worksite in all weather conditions.
