The B cells are activated during clonal selection and the activated B cells divide into plasma cells which make more antibodies specific to an antigen

Each B cell has specific receptors on its cell membrane. Only the B cell with the antibody that is complementary to the antigen on the pathogen is activated. It then divides into the plasma and memory cells. The plasma divide and mass produce the antibodies.
