I am old enough to remember Big Daddy at the track when he was in his 40's. What a legend and what a man. Miss those days. Remembering Orange County International Raceway, Irwindale Raceway and Lions Dragstrip. There was nothing like Funny Car Summer and a 100 cars lit up at one time. MAGIC of being a kid.
Hey maing, i remember funnycar summer, & it's been a while since i saw a can o' Big Cat Malt Liquor! (4:36) but it wasn't upside down over a zoomie either! Pretty F'n Cool, huh? ⚡️🍺🍺🍺☝️🍺🍺🍺🥴✌️🍺🍺🍺😵💫👌🍺🍺🍺😜👍⚡️😁
I attended a Funny Car vs. Top Fueler match race at York US30 Dragway the year Garlits debuted his rear-engine "Swamp Rat". Three TF's (Garlits, Tommy Ivo, and I think, Shirley Muldowney) and three FC's, which I can't remember the cars but wouldn't be surprised if Bruce Larson was one, it was his home track. Garlits did a "fire burnout".
I wish NHRA would have a legacy class that only had old slingshots and early funny cars. There's something just primal and pure about slingshots, it's just engine, 4 wheels, a seat, and some metal tubing holding it all together. No aero, minimal bodywork leaving almost everything exposed.
I grew up in Southern California my father actually raced for a few years in the late 1950's and early 60's. He never talked about it much I saw some pictures my mother is in a few. He passed on in the 1990's she doesn't remember much she was in her 20's and early 30's. I wish I had sat down with him and made a recording of his experience racing in those days. I know he was sponsored 3 other guys also he was the driver. He would talk about it once in a while little bit me a dumb teen and early 20-year-old all I wanted to do was talk to my friends and date girls didn't care about what my father did back then. Now that I'm in my 50's I think about him lot more often. I suppose why he didn't talk about it much didn't care about it after he got married had kids moved no with his life.
shame they wouldn,t let us do push starts,,that sucked!,,First it was ,not enough push cars,,then it was not enough cackle cars,,,let the videos prove different!!

91 years old Big Daddy's still got big balls, compared and most current 20 year old kids today😂

Hard as nails! No mask on! He may have done this a few times.
He’s 92 years old and still going strong.

Awesome video presentation. 🥰Thanks for sharing. I was there. Just wish they could/would start them '' all '' at the same time.
Enjoyed!!!!
I have met him 3 times, early seventies,1992 , and 2011. He is one of my childhood heroes.
Nice to see that super rare Ford SOHC cammer amongst all the Chrysler hemis!
Don Garlits and John Force are two of the most iconic names in the sport!
