Many years ago I had the pleasure of seeing her Father at a club. He came out and sang and played 1 song then he got up from the piano and left the stage. This club was very small and intimate so him leaving didn't cause any alarm but he was gone for a while his band continued to play.
I wrote a request for "This Christmas" on a napkin which he read but didn't sing. The show was over quickly. We felted at that time that something was wrong just didn't know what. It was an experience that I always remember. Many people may not know this but at one time Freddy White the brother of Maurice White of Earth Wind & Fire use to be Donny Hathaway's drummer. If I remember correctly Freddy was the drummer that night. Donny was and always will be the best at what he did. His Daughter does him proud.

Lalah Hathaway is singing her father’s (Donny Hathaway) song that he wrote for her mother & his wife, (Eulaulah Hathaway). She has that deep & full voice her father had. Don’t sleep on her mother tho, she’s a singer as well. That’s how her parents met in College. They were both studying music.
Leon Russell wrote this song, Donny Hathaway, along with a lot of other singers, covered it.
Donny was great ...but rock star Leon Russell wrote the song and performed it on tour many many times starting in 1970

Wow, I haven't heard or thought about this fabulous song since I saw one of my favorite singers sing it, Lana Cantrell back in the 70's. Ah, the memories of this haunting melody. I sure didn't expect this singer to have such a nice low voice. Well sung.
