*There's very few people left in the world like Roland, today.* 99% of these shows, have a goal of either trying to sell/market everything on the boat. Or, they're showing us their wealth of knowledge, as opposed to actually teaching something. Like they love listening to themselves talk. You can feel it when someone is genuinely trying to help you. I was working at Bass Pro Shops, Orlando for a while, and he was there on a slow day, all by himself for some kind of event, and I told him I'm from the Midwest, trying to figure out Florida freshwater fishing (which, I was at the time). It was just a simple comment in passing, and in the context of the situation... And, proceeded to spend what must have been an hour walking me up and down the aisle's of the store showing me setup's, gear, what to use, what will work, what to stay away from, when to use it, how to tie terminal tackle, etc, etc.... It was the most genuine experience I've had to date with someone of his success, caliber, and legendary status. I'm not sure the young people get what a forefather Roland is to fishing....at least as far as syndicated shows go. Roland, Al Linder, Hank Parker, Bill Dance.... All us old guys know exactly what I'm talking about. We didn't grow up being able to watch a fish hit your bait on a screen that cost $2K. And, neither did those guys. The way they talk, and how they teach is so relatable, clear, and genuine. They don't assume ANY-one's knowledge, and explain things as if it's the first time someone is seeing it. And, if people are combing UA-cam for "How-to" videos, then it quite possibly is. Thank you again, to Roland for all he's done for the industry.

I grew up watching you on TV as a little kid and now as a grown man I'm watching you on youtube. I can't even begin to tell you how much you have taught me over the last 28 years I've been watching you. Thank you for taking time out of your day to teach us new techniques. Maybe one day I'll get lucky enough to shake your hand and tell you thank you in person.

I've been fishing in Florida for over 40 years and I feel like a preschooler listening to Roland, he knows so much and loves to share his knowledge. I have learned more in hours watching his videos than I have with actual experience. Thank you Roland, you are the GOAT

You know; Lizards are my favorite bait for Carolina Rigs I never use anything else. They work everywhere shallow water, deep water, weeds, wood, and rocks. I fished with a friend and he used it all the time. I never used a Carolina Rig until I saw how he caught bass, walleye and catfish dragging that thing everywhere. He seldom changed lures unless I was catching bass and he wasn’t. The truth be known, he caught more bass than I did, all the time. He liked a one-ounce egg sinker and red beads. He never used anything but 20-pound monofilament and 15-pound leaders. Watching your video made me think of him and that dam ball and chain he loved to use. Thank you for bring back a the memories I had fishing with him.

A Carolina rig is my go to for big bass.I will even "dead stick" it and watch my line for the slowest moment in the line then RollUp the slack, and bam .I fish from the shoreline around docks and structure I like a 4 or 6 inch green lizard hooked thru the head and come out beside the head and back thru just behind the front leg so the hook is in the side and not underneath as it gives it more action ,I think.
Roland you are my fishing hero I am in my mid 50s and h as very watched you since I was a pup.
God Bless you and your family

Don't get me wrong, I like watching Scott's videos too (and I've watched more of them than my wife is comfortable with)...but, watching yours makes me feel like a guy just learning from their dad. Now that you're doing the YT thing, I'm sure your subscribers are going to keep going for a while. Maybe the youngins don't know about you, but they will now. Keep giving Scott hell on his challenges too! I love watching you guys fish together. This was a good Carolina rig tutorial. That was a nice 6.6lb girl! Also, you got me using both sides of the senko and biting the tail off a bit, and getting molds to melt down the old ones into new ones... I figure, if YOU are reusing them...who the heck am I not too?!

You said what I was about to say, almost to the letter (including the past about your wife).... Roland's generation....which is my father's generation, I'm probably 5...maybe 10yrs older than Scott, grew up with ENTIRELY different communication skills, and view on life. When Roland explains something he does it in a way that is so darned relatable, and genuine. First off it's genuine..... Far more importantly, he doesn't assume someone's knowledge. *He's not trying to give a display of his knowledge, while selling every product on the boat, he's genuinely trying to help people. There's very few people in the world like that today.* I was working at Bass Pro Shop and he was there on a slow day, all by himself, and I told him I'm from the Midwest, trying to figure out Florida fishing (which I was at the time). And, proceeded to spend what must have been an hour walking me up and down the aisle's of the store showing me setup's, gear, what to use, when, how to tie. It was the most genuine experience I've had to date with someone of his success and caliber. Anway, I'm rambling....you're 100% correct. And, yes....not taking a thing away from Scott. He's great, as well.

Roland I watched your tv show in the 1980’s. I’m curious if this lake is the same iron ore strip pit lake you fished back then? You did one particular show where you fished out in deep water with a Jig and pig. You went on to explain in the video that people thought of you as mainly a shallow water fisherman but you went to say that you actually preferred to fish deep water structure. That was one of my favorite shows you did. It introduced me to structure fishing as a young teenager. That was such a memorable video for me.

It's a good idea to call the marinas around the lake and they will sell you the most productive lures!

I wouldn't mind catching a hundred little ones every now and then. Although I know what you mean catching a 2 plus pounder is where it's at. Hey, I live in Canada, not Florida....... A 7 lb bass on a 5-inch worm, unbelievable.

Have you ever kayak fished and how fun is it?

I mainly kayak fish. It’s really enjoyable. Although I loved my experiences on big bass boats, it feels way different on a yak. Nothing like hooking into a 4+lber and having it pull you around. My 8lb pb took me for a ride. Ended up about 100ft from where I set the hook. Besides that it’s nice to get a little work out.

itsdatruff yeah I wouldn’t risk using a kayak in alligator water. I’m in California. There’s really nothing to be scared of besides the usual risk of flipping.
