    If you have one player running as Cyclops you can play a bamf! on the villain(to fulfill Optic Blast’s ability condition of needing an upgrade on the thing that you’re blasting) and just keep blasting him for 3 damage per turn at the cost of 1 resource, which will eventually go away once you can get out Cyclop’s Visor card. Thus making it so that you never need one of Cyclop’s signature “tactics” upgrade cards in order to use his hero ability. If you combine that with a straight Agression build(with Cyclops) you can really whittle down the villain’s health.

    I know this is probably not what you were talking about with Jubilee, but for the sake of being true to the Marvel lore, not all heroes should be fairly equally balanced. I'm much more in favor of having some characters that are weak. Jubilee does just about exactly what she should do. In contrast, Captain Marvel should be a really powerful character.

    I've just been getting into nightcrawler and running a Justice deck I found on CDB. Getting Bishop out and using supports to keep him out helps a lot with damage

    Ive also really enjoyed nightcrawler. I play solo protection but its an ally heavy build...it felt most thematic to me that way. Thanks for the review!

    I haven’t been that excited for this wave so it’s been a pleasant surprised with the heroes. I’ve really enjoyed magik and iceman is one of my new favorites to play!! Haven’t played nightcrawler yet he sounds great I’m hyped for him!

    I personally love Magik but Iceman and Jubilee were definitely misses for me. Nightcrawler's great too but I only really like him in aggression in solo and multiplayer and justice for multiplayer. His damage is deceptively low despite how good his attack events are. Only having 3 attack events total caps you at 20 damage per deck pass, so he definitely needs help in the damage department.

    I feel you with 'Port Away. I've gotten it out once with the chapel and it feels just about as good as you'd think. Most of the time though, it just felt like awkward timing and I couldn't utilize the card effectively and just bin it for a resource. I like the idea of it, but for all the reasons you said it just feels lacking.

    So far I have only played him with a tweaked protection precon, but overall fun. I too like aggression better than any other aspect, will soon play him in that aspect.

    Have you tried Nightcrawler with a perfect defense hard to ignore type deck? I haven't played him yet but it seems like pairing that with something like wolverine aggression could help mitigate the drawback of rush decks.

    I am definitely guilty of propping up NC due to my love of the character but I think that also made me pretty critical of his design because I wanted him to be good, so if any aspect of him wasn't I would have share my disappointments.
    That being said I do like him a lot. He's not just another 2/2/2 character with a gimmick. He's his own minigame.
    I too didn't find protection fun with him, but instead I found Justice to be really fun. Looking forward to trying him in aggression once I get some better X-men red cards, but yeah.
    Nightcrawler: not the strongest, but not a disappointment.

    As a person brought into X-Men more from the old school movies (w/Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen) than the comics, this cycle was a bit more uninspiring - Magik, Bishop, Jubilee - starts to get into too many heroes I just don't know that well, so I never bought them. Might now pick up those I DO know - like Nightcrawler! Maybe Iceman, but not enthusiastic given your review. Magneto as a hero sounds cool as well - will have to wait to see how he plays first though.

    Its funny, im almost the complete opposite of you. Magik ended up being one of my all time top favorite heroes. I love the sequencing puzzle she presents and I love eeking out every ounce of value I can get from playing her efficiently. While not the strongest heroes, Iceman and Jubilee were a ton of fun for me. Nightcrawler is someone that on paper, I thought was going to be one of my all time favorites, but just ended up falling flat for me. The only crossover we have is on Bishop. Inagree about how surprised I was with his strength. But agree or disagree, I love to hear your opinions. I love that this game can cater to very different players!

      This game is in such a healthy spot right now. You hate Valkyrie or whatever and I love her. All good. We have 40/50 other heroes. It’s soooo refreshing. I remember it felt terrible to get a bad hero because it was all this build up for nothing and I wasn’t tired of playing the same 4 or 5 heroes

    On another note, I'm curious what you think about power creep in the game. You mentioned 1 for 3 thwarting "not being bad". In the first couple years of the game, a 1 to 3 ratio was unheard of. 1 for 6 is absolutely wild, beyond broken when compared to the first couple years of the game.
    I agree with the assessment that his Cutlasses count as two restricted...it's a shoulder shrug, "okay" moment. Getting a Combat Training, a Vest, AND retaliate for 2 cost?
    Storm has a, what, 1 for 10 damage card?
    The numbers keep going up, which is weird. There is no need to power creep a co-op game.

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  Місяць тому

      Storm is 3 for 10. Miles can do 1 for 10 but it’s tricky to pull off. Power creep, imo, is a naturally byproduct of the game. They want to explore different spaces to do things and it’s not shocking some of it is more powerful than others. Also it allows for a wide range of villain difficulties which is generally a good thing I would argue.

    Great analysis video! Spot on. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts comparing Bamf & Kurt's Cutlasses to CaptIn America's Shield & I Can Do This All Day. *Edit: who do you like in protection? I haven't heard anyone say they like any hero in protection. Is protection the most difficult aspect in MC? Like is protection aspect a way to make the game more difficult kind of like expert villians or standard 2 expert 2?

    • @eicha41624
      @eicha41624 Місяць тому +2

      Protection is definitely a weird one. I like Ghost Spider in protection but that's what she's made for. It probably has the most feels-bad out of all the aspects, because your main actions are done during the villain phase. So by the time the player phase rolls around you're just twiddling your thumbs while the other players do their turns, because you have no cards in hand and are exhausted
      That being said, it is pretty cool to be the one making sure your team is still alive so they can do the big numbers

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  Місяць тому +2

      Ghost spider I think is solid. I like cap a lot in protection. I think drax and spdr is strong in protection. Then you can also do ready up builds in protection that are strong but not your traditional protection type ya know

      @@eicha41624 yeah man. 100% 👍🏻 I'm hoping someone posts a video of a victory with any protection hero vs s2e2 Ronan. Hopefully D20 does it w Valk in Protection soon. Web-warrior-fanatic beat regular expert Ronan with a protection nightcrawler. I'm getting pretty convinced that Protection is the aspect you go to for a higher difficulty - when you wanna have fun and win alot go w leadership, aggression justice & pool - but when you want to really challenge & test yourself a great way to do that is by playing the most diffucult aspect: protection.

    Let me start by saying I find d20 entertaining and have watched a TON of his content. Many likes given, have subscribed to the UA-cam channel.
    But those who didn't get the "Recovery 3" commentary, let me clarify.
    d20's Doctor Strange review was problematic. d20 was excessively negative and he caught some flak in the comments. He started out negative, characterizing Strange's Recovery of 3 as "low", and a negative point against the character.
    The reality is that a Recovery of 3 is STANDARD. Yes, it is "technically" the lowest, but in the context of the video, d20 was nitpicking to find negative things to say about Dr. Strange. In the context of a review, 3 Recovery is not negative, it's normal. A Recovery higher than 3 is an advantage that a character has, and should be pointed as as a positive. How is "normal" a negative point against a Hero?
    The negativity continued with complaining about that Dr. Strange has less than 6 total stats on his Hero side, which is very common for Heroes that have alternative abilities (Drax's growing ATK stat, Quicksilver's free Ready each phase, Spectrum's form change). But again, this was characterized as another hit against the character.
    It's fine to not enjoy a Hero in the game, to each their own. But the review was overly negative. Dr. Strange is powerful, probably still in the top 5 most powerful Heroes of the game, and d20 found every nitpick he could find and focused on them to sell a narrative. You can say "I don't think Dr. Strange is fun because he makes the game too easy against non-Steady/Stalwart Villains". That's fine.
    The review came across like Fox News...take the truth, twist it to as negative as possible, and create the narrative you want instead of being objective.
    I was disappointed in this video that d20 didn't own up and say, "yeah, I was negative, 3 Recovery is the standard, shouldn't have put Dr. Strange down for it". Nope, he doubled down and insisted he was right.

      Overly negative? There was a handful of things I said were bad. I said overall he is incredibly strong. One of the strongest in the game. That’s not negative.

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  Місяць тому +2

      And on top of that. I have done the 3 recovery for pretty much every hero I have reviewed. It is not unique to strange. The only one I didn’t was for spider man since it was the first and I wasn’t thinking.

      Out of 50 heroes, 20 have 4 or more REC. I think it’s fine to consider 3 REC as a negative in context. Peter Parker having 3 REC isn’t a negative because he defends for 3 and has Aunt May, while I’d consider 3 REC for, say, Black Widow a negative because she doesn’t have in-kit healing, she doesn’t have native 3 DEF, and she only has 9 HP.

      @chauveet Місяць тому

      @@D20Woodworking appreciate the reply. You did indeed say that at the end of the review, but I don't think that it's fair to say that there wasn't a negative slant to the review that just hasn't been present in the other Hero reviews.

    • @chauveet
      @chauveet Місяць тому +1

      @@andyn2854 if 60% of Heroes have 3 REC, than the majority of Heroes have 3 REC and that is normal.
