The FTdx5000MP comes from the factory with 5 roofing filters, including a 300Hz, a 600Hz, a 3kHz, a 6kHz, and a 15kHz. I have long wished to have a 1.2kHz SSB filter, to combat QRM from a station that decides to start talking 2kHz or less away from my QSO.
Years ago, I installed a 2.1kHz into my FT-920. It breathed new line into that transceiver. With that filter, and careful use of shift and width, I was about to combat interference from an adjacent frequency quite well. I also installed a 250Hz CW filter. The filters were both from INRAD. Those fillers are the reason I was able to use the FT-920 for 20 years, without being blown away enough by another transceiver to replace it.
The FTdx5000MP is the transceiver that finally became the replacement. But I’ve always wished it had a more narrow SSB filter. Since there is a 300Hz CW filter, I never use the 600Hz CW filter. I thought I would remove the 600Hz filter and replace it with a narrow SSB filter. INRAD doesn’t have a 1.2kHz, but they have a 1.8kHz. I ordered it.
In this video, I show the effectiveness of the filter at helping battle interference from an adjacent frequency.
At the end of this video, you will be able to see a listing of some of the supporters of this channel who made this video possible. These are people who have supported the channel via Patreon membership, as what I call long-haulers. Long-haulers have supported the channel on a long-term basis. There are 4 levels of Patreon membership, including S5 (Associate), S7 (Executive), S9 (VIP), and S9+ (VIP+). S9+ (VIP+) denotes an S9 (VIP) member who voluntarily chooses to give over and above the amount for S9 (VIP) membership. They help me continue to produce videos even though most people do not contribute toward the cost of my mission. Without their support, I cannot bring my viewers uncensored content.

VIP members are invited to participate in periodic Zoom meetings.
Most videos are visible to the Patreon team members long before they are released for public viewing. Some videos are never released for public viewing. Yearly S7 (Executive) and S9 (VIP) members have access to the menu optimizations PDFs I’ve written for the FT-891, FT-991A, FTdx5000MP, FTdx101D/MP, FTdx10, and FT-710 AESS. Yearly S7 (Executive) members can receive one menu optimizations PDF while yearly S9 (VIP) members can receive multiple menu optimizations documents, plus my FT8 configuration guide for either the FTdx10 or the FT-710 AESS. Future radios might be added. The documents are copyrighted. They shall not be divulged to anyone else without written permission from Doug McAlexander, callsign N4HNH.
N4HNH Radio has a Web site where you can purchase T-shirts with some of the sayings you might hear in the videos. Some of the more prominent videos are featured there as well as a page geared toward ham radio training. Go to: www.n4hnhradio.com

Good information on roofing filters no matter what rig you have.

Thanks, Wendell. Too many people think that the technology is so different from radio to radio, this they doing watch a video unless it is about their specific radio. The technology is very similar, just applied better by one manufacturer over the other.

Doug: A little bit off the reservation here, but when using an FT-891 and pressing the "Tune" button, how many watts is the 891 pushing through the auto-tuner to find the best SWR at this point?? Thank you.

I covered that in my ATAS-120A playlist. There is also an ATAS-120A collection at: www.Patreon.com/N4HNH
