Dude, I must say I've really taken a liking to watching your vids. Quite an accomplished guy really. I love how nothing scares you. Pumps? No problem. Transmissions?? No problem! Engines?? No problem! You attack anything man. Its awesome. You've got balls man.
I'm proud and I know you, Tim and Joseph are proud too. Isn't it great to take something as intricate as that apart, fix the problems and put it back together with success. Thanks for the series and thanks for allowing us into the onelonleyfarmer family. We look forward to more adventures on your channel.
I am glad you decided to fix this one, 4430 was the nicest one of the whole 30 series, as far as power/agility balance and fuel use etc is concerned. We used one for a 1rst crop harvest when our crappy 4020 went to the shop. The 4430 was a real comfy, nice to run tractor compared to the 4020, and ran/pulled like it had twice the power. But I suppose ten years worth of R and D would give that result haha.
Hi Guys Great video. Gasket should be glued to removed part, not the housing. This not only makes it easier to remove the old gasket the next time repairs are required, but also protects the new gasket on assembly. Less chance of hitting gasket when installing component. Cheers Willy
Glad to see the old girl out of the shop and working good, Roll in the next project we are waiting for. I like the fact that you leave the little assembly problems in your video's. it makes me feel better when I have a bad moment like that once in a while. I still think some of those near bald tires like the ones on this tractor. Would look good going down a pulling track on a Pandy farms, hot farm or pro stock type pulling tractor.
Just a FYi, I use the high tack on the engine parts at work to and if you use it on the piece that gets removed instead on the gear case, if you have to ever replace the gasket, it's easier to clean glued on gasket off the removed part then it is on the housing and you don't risk having crap fall down into the cavity you can't clean out. High tack is great stuff to use but just make your job easier if you ever have to pull it apart.
What you do when you have nothing to hold the gaskets in place is get 2 old bolts, cut the heads off and then hacksaw a slot in the top. Screw them in a little and fit the gasket and housing. Fit all the bolts loosely and then unscrew the 2 guide bolts with a screwdriver and magnet if they are a little short. then do up all the bolts. Its really good for things like heavy cylinder heads, so you don't damage gaskets trying to line the head up on the dowels. :o)
I have a drawer in my tool box just for home made guidguide studs. Doing oil pans and water pumps and front covers all with high tack make life so easy without studs.
Im a mechanic too and have the same. I learned about making guide bolts from my first head job on a Toyota landcruiser (FJ40 with a 2f motor back in 1983 during my training. They are heavy heads.
Wes you make light of it but there very few people would tackle a job like that who were not specially trained JD mechanics! Congratulations to you all on this achievement. Could you please show/explain what is not quite right with the gear shift and what needs to be adjusted?
It is amazing that guy as talented as you are Wes does not see how much easier it would be to work on that damn tractor is you took 30 minutes to pressure wash it before you brought it in. Instead of getting covered in crap you would stay clean, instead of having to worry about crap falling inside the cases you could just work. Instead of trying to dig the grub out of the way to find a bolt or screw head you could just put a tool on it. I know ... I know .... you have a hundred excuses for working like a little kid in a sandbox but as a businessman you should see that it ends up costing you time and possibly money. Your the boss though ... at any rate nice job getting another tractor back to right.
yes there was a movie I" in like flint" but the saying came from a poke at Errol Flynn, his passion for young teenagers! So I believe you were in like Flynn
Congradulations on another job well done!! I really like that Banjo music you played on the video. Will you tell who that was and maybe the album it's from.
You make great video's, I check all of it as time go on but what i don't like is that you open critical areas and don't thoroughly cleans the areas first, I always worry for your part that dirt may fall into places you don't see and block valves etc. Nevertheless it is all yours and have the right to do so.
Always glue the gasket in to the piece that comes off, not in the surface its removed from. Now when you next time remove that thing it is bitch to remove gasket :) it much easier to remove when the gasket is in the piece what you have removed.
What was wrong with the electrical. It looked like u had to jump the starter in the first run video. But great job u guys i have never tackled such a big job myself yet but I'm not sure if I could even with the right tools. If u had to guess about how many hrs did it take
Well, OLF I have to disagree with you bud... "In Like Flint" was definitely a movie from the 1960's, but the term you are referring to is actually "In Like Flynn", which originated with the actor Eroll Flynn because he was a smooth talker...
Definitely "In like Flynn". Errol Flynn was quite the ladies man and a big partier. His dr's told him to slow down or he would have some serious issues. He sped up instead and paid the big price.
No , the saying is "In Like Flynn". It refers to an Australian actor, "Errol Flynn". Errol had a way with the lady folk and bedded Hundreds of them. Hence the saying "IN" like Flynn.
OLD INDIAN trick use a couple of long bolts and cut the head off and use them as guide pins. Screw them to hold the gasket in place and also help install part straight I use to keep a hand full of all different sizes of headless bolts.
why do you keep the front axle out wider than the rear? All our tractors (wide front) are on 60" and our collector (Narrow Front) Are on 60" rear, and 30' front
Hey Wes. I am redoing a 4430 and i'm having trouble with the lift arms not working properly. They either come up or down . There in no adjustment for like if you set your depth on say 5 on your lift it drops till the lift bottoms out. It will raise and lower but not able to adjust the depth. on the lift. Any ideas...I;m stumped..
In like Flyn!!!The term is often believed to refer to movie star Errol Flynn. Flynn had a reputation for womanizing, consumption of alcohol and brawling. His freewheeling, hedonistic lifestyle caught up with him in November 1942 when two under-age girls, Betty Hansen and Peggy Satterlee, accused him of statutory rape.[1] A group was organized to support Flynn, named the American Boys' Club for the Defense of Errol Flynn (ABCDEF); its members included William F. Buckley, Jr.[2] The trial took place in January and February 1943, and Flynn was cleared of the charges. According to etymologist Michael Quinion, the incident served to increase Flynn's reputation as a ladies' man, which led to the popular phrase "in like Flynn".[3] Columnist Cecil Adams also examined the term's origins and its relationship to Flynn. Many early sources, attesting the phrase, say it emerged as war slang during World War II.[4]
The title of the movie 'In Like Flint' was a play on the phrase 'in like Flynn', referring to Errol Flynn and his sexual abilities. Not that it fucking matters.
Thumbs up 582 and thumbs down 3. I laughed when I saw the 3 thumbs down. If those 3 didn't like the video they just shouldn't have watched. Must be newcomers without a clue what you do, who you are and what you stand for. I know you well enough to understand that you don't care. LOL! Keep 'em comin.'
Errol Flynn pre-dated the later movies, portraying the original silent movie swashbuckler. Ergo IN LIKE FLYNN pays homage to the original Errol Flynn, (if anyone cares). en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_like_Flynn

Could you please show/explain what is not quite right with the gear shift and what needs to be adjusted?
If you could show the adjustments you can do for shifting between 3rd and 4th would be great. Great video by the way!!

Movie was "In Like Flint" 1967 with James Coburn as Flint.

Well done
I know the brakes are in the differential somewhere, did you show them on video? Just curious.
Hey Wes dose that red stuff do anything to the oil inside the housing?
That looks the same as a 4630 l had to take mine off many years ago l remember there being two different gaskets though .
OLD INDIAN trick use a couple of long bolts and cut the head off and use them as guide pins.
Screw them to hold the gasket in place and also help install part straight I use to keep a hand full of all different sizes of headless bolts.
It's alive.
What music do you use for when you fast forward
