You know the thing about Orson Welles doing Unicron? He didn't give two shits about it. He was actually reported to have said in an interview, regarding the role, *"You know what I did this morning? I played the voice of a toy. Some terrible robot toys from Japan that changed from one thing to another. The Japanese have funded a full-length animated cartoon about the doings of these toys, which is all bad outer-space stuff. I play a planet. I menace somebody called Something-or-other. Then I'm destroyed. My plan to destroy Whoever-it-is is thwarted and I tear myself apart on the screen."* And even during his weakest physicality, even when in need of the aid of synthesizers, his voice acting for Unicron still remains the best in Transformers history. He didn't give a womp rat's ass about the role, yet he still put his all into it, and during his final moments in life, at that. This is an extremely admirable thing he did, and displays a great deal of integrity and talent on his part. Orson Welles contributed more to the Transformers mythos than he gave himself credit for, and it is for that and many other reasons that he is a man of cinema to be honored for generations to come.
CatMaster90001 So true man, he just did the part regardless, and its so distinctive, it is probably the most memorable voice from the entire history next to Chris Lattas Starscream IMO.
blitzjaeger Most definitely so, my friend. Just imagine if he were alive today to see what an impact he left upon an entire fandom... His reaction probably wouldn't be entirely positive, knowing him, but at least he'd realize the scope of his impact.
CatMaster90001 Its also true that in those times, Sci-fi was unheard of, he probably DID think it sounded ridiculous. Who knows, a child of a different generation entirely.
not only Orson Welles but also his lines "then it pleases me to be the first" sick burn "you exaggerate" my personal favorite "and nothing!" thats how you end a deal! "excellent" i love how pleased he sounds with this line
+JCBro2014 And unlike The Death star, he eats up these planets instead of frying them with lasers (though he _can_ shoot lasers, he didn't use them to destroy planets in Transformers: The Movie).
Roger C. Carmel did a magnificent cover version, But Orson Welles remains to be the BEST Unicron. Despite not being inspired in any way, His final role was most definitely his Best piece of work next to Citizen Kane.
Definitely Orson Welles, he captured the supreme detachment that Unicron embodies, he truly made him sound like a sinister cosmic entity that could destroy whole planets and not give it a second thought. Priceless.
Without a doubt. But you gotta admit, John Noble comes second as the best voice for Unicron. As he really captures the aspect of Unicron being a god, who wields great power.
Laserbeak316 Yes, he definitely captured the godliness of Unicron, even better than Welles in that regard. So Noble wins out in the godliness category, Welles and Carmel in the detachment category. Definitely.
Part of what made that work, I think, is that the role meant basically nothing to him. That kind of total detachment? You can't get that now. You couldn't escape hearing that Unicron is some kind of big deal to people. But that detachment is part of what makes his performance so effective. Because Unicorn simply could not care about such petty things. So it will always be a competition for second best, because you are never going to have that attitude come through again.
Orson Welles is the best voice of Unicron. Since he is the Transformers' equivalent of the Devil, his voice could chill your blood. John Noble comes second, he's great in TF Prime.
+Alexander Cook -What's so funny is that the old generation who never knew or gave a shit about TF only knew Orson Welles through the Mercury Theater and Citizen Kane. Those who were from the TF generation knew him as Unicron.
I will admit, all of them did pretty good, Orson was the best overall, with Noble coming behind him. Thing is, all of them portrayed a different character in a sense. Yeah they played a god like character but Orson, his was no nonsense, to the point and when he raged you got the feeling his anger was much greater than what he was showing. He was control, domination. not unlike Galactus (not talking about the planet eating thing). It was only during the death scenes that Unicron lost that feeling of control. Before that everyone, even Megatron, which either lunch, a pest or his bitch, that was the feeling I got when his Unicron spoke. Carmel, it felt like he was trying to mimic Orson, it was fitting for Unicron, but just not as good as Orson's but it wasn't bad in anyway. The Armada voice, it sounded like a smug, arrogant devil, which was fitting since it was established that he fed on hatred, conflict, etc and had been manipulating both Autobots and Decepticons to feed his hunger. Blu Mankuma, his voice was completely different, yeah it sounded like a higher being, but it didn't sound like a villain which was fitting since it was really some aliens using his likeness. Finally John Noble, the Prime Unicron, his version was really like that of a god, similar to Orson's but a different way and his was grandiose, it felt like you were talking to a god, he felt ancient, he felt powerful, and it felt that your life meant nothing to him.
Orson Welles is simply LEGENDARY, the kind of voice you would expect from a god. John Noble come as a second close, I love his angry and powerful voice.
Starscream91 Yeah, wouldn't you? You go from playing in Citizen Kane, one of the greatest movies ever created in the history of Film... To voice, in respect, a Toy... I'd feel the same way, as Orson
Tekdown247 Was there any doubt? All the G1 VAs are the best....cause, they're, well, the originals. A close second is John Noble...who I didn't know did the voice in "Prime". Hell, when you're the original choice for Vader, and your second and final choice is the epic JEJ......come on. Really? Is there any real competition?
Idris Elba should take over Unicron's voice. Orson Welles, though he was the best and original voice, was not responsible for making it awesome. Orson Welles was very sick when he voiced Unicron. Producers were faced with a conundrum of how to go about it without disrespecting Mr. Welles. In the end, his voice was altered to sound the way it does. It was not originally supposed to be so deep and slow.
Dr. Dhoom Oh really? Well, I have a copy of the DVD that had to be specially ordered online 15 years before your precious Blu-ray, because I did not want the child-friendly censored version. To me both Orson Welles and John Noble did great Unicron voices. There has been rumors that Benedict Cumberbatch will be the voice of Unicron in Transformers 5. It is only a rumor and not to be taken serious.
John Nobel is easily the best, he’s fully aware of how much people fear him and isn’t afraid to show his rage, he’s curious about beings that are lesser than him, and was willing to give his sworn enemy his attention and converse with him. And his taunting but formal speaking patterns are amazing, it will be very hard to find a voice actor that can do the role that much justice
Orson Wells voice echos and reminds me of my childhood so hard. That voice echos in my mind. Gave a strong indication to how powerful a being Unicron was.
Whilst Orson Welles was easily the best, I have to say I am very fond of Blu Mankuma's performance. Granted it's not "real" Unicron (rather a Vok avatar) but the depth and sheer pitilessness of it is impressive.
Jacob M. Keene Ahh, that's very intriguing! :3 I didn't know that! In fact, if there's ever to be a Transformers/MLP FiM crossover, I know exactly what a face-off between Twilight Sparkle and the planet-devouring lord of chaos would be called... ... Unicron vs. Unicorn. XD
CatMaster90001 Indeed! I can do an impression of Mark's voice for Unicron/Tirek, and I'll see whether or not I can do an impression of Orson Welles as Unicron!
I saw an interview with Welles where he said that he doesn’t believe in “phoning it in.” He said that even if he didn’t like a movie that he was doing, he still gave it his all. I think that he gave that interview before he did Unicron but I get the sense that he believed it until the end!
John Noble is incredible. I know everyone, probably including myself will say Orson Wells was the best. But Noble was fantastic as the enemy of Primus.
I like orson wells doing unicron.I rember watching the movie his voice boomed and went right through me.This is what a planet size transformer should sound like.I think james earl jones would make a great voice of unicron.
Orson's apathy for the role infused his Unicron with an aloof indifference that perfectly encompassed his role as a cosmic force of destruction and consumption.
He was at death's door and could barely manage above a pained wheeze without heavy post-process work, and still Orson Wells did the best job out of all of them.
What is so amazing about Orson Welles' performance is that he died mere DAYS after he recorded his lines. He was on his goddamn deathbed, and STILL managed to create an intimidating and larger-than-life villain through only his voice. THAT is talent.
Even though Orson Welles was suffering Ill-health and was on the verge of death (Plus he hated it), he still gave it his all, and managed to bring out a demonically horrifying, yet awesome and badass voice for the iconic Giant Planet-eating Devil himself!
@@bryanferratt6598 I love his voice acting but his raw youthful tone would been more better for a cocky Megatron. The voice actor for Snyder Cut Darkseid (Ray Porter) is the perfect choice for Unicron.
as much i love Orson Welles... i actually prefer John Noble. something about his take on the voice adds a bit more to Unicron than just "the super deep voice of the big bad" its got a bit of a "better than thou" feeling to it and his accent helps too.
Orson Welles will always be Unicron to me, regardless if he liked it or not. John Noble and Blu Mankuma however, are pretty good replacements. Matthew King... I don't know, he just sounds too soft for someone like Unicron. Mark Acheson's voice sounds more like it fits a brute like Sabertooth and G4 Tirek.
+Ian Greene (Godzilla) Welles actually liked his role in Transformers The Movie, he just joked about it like he was always used to do with all his roles.
DEADPOOL9AND According to director Nelson Shin, Welles had been pleased to accept the role after reading the script and had expressed an admiration for animated films.
For me it has to be Orson Welles! (I know his voice was heavily modified as he was sick at the time) He brought such divinity to Unicron. Plus he was in the greatest Transformers movie of all time! It's because of that movie I want to be a voice actor.
4 Mark Acheson 3 John Noble 2 Roger Carmel 1 Orson Welles i hope in the new trilogy of the games of Cybertron will call games of Earth and Space Fred Tatasciore will voiced Unicron
Orson Welles, no competition. It radiates an oppressive feeling of pure, unadultered evil and perfectly encapsulates Unicron, IMO.
Mark Acheson comes second imo
ur answer is SO LOGICAL!
And to think Orson Welles gave zero F$cks.
John Noble is a close second

Orson Welles is the best voice.
So are Roger and John.

Orson, no contest. The voice of a God.

Orson wells hands down unicron voice...I'm digging the theme at the end
Mark It kind of sound like a evil villain
you can never go wrong with Orson Welles. he brought an intimidation the others just did not.
Orson Welles and MArk Acheson are my favorites, but they all do an amazing job of it. Not easy to pick a favorite
Honestly, I feel like they all got it right in their own way...Chills for each.
What about Sam Witwer as Unicron?
I say it's high time that they put Unicron in the new Trasformer movies
Well what do you know they did! 😃
No one beats Orson Welles.
as much i love Orson Welles... i actually prefer John Noble. something about his take on the voice adds a bit more to Unicron than just "the super deep voice of the big bad" its got a bit of a "better than thou" feeling to it and his accent helps too.
Netflix WFC Unicron brought me here. He has such a good voice
Oson Welles all the way the originator of unicron!!!!
+pikppa He liked it? He didn't seem to give a fuck about it, and I can't anything saying he did like it.
I would’ve loved to have heard Welles say “Rosebud” in his awesome Unicron voice,
I like the Orson Welles voice.
4 Mark Acheson
3 John Noble
2 Roger Carmel
1 Orson Welles
i hope in the new trilogy of the games of Cybertron will call games of Earth and Space Fred Tatasciore will voiced Unicron
John Noble same Guy who played Brainiac from Superman: Unbound.
Awesome Brainiac played Unicron.
Orson welles wow his voice would of been perfect for the next transformers film
Carmel was pretty good, even though Welles added a lot. John Noble surprisingly good.
marvelboy74 agreed in that order.
