Orson was an all consuming entity. He was perfect for Unicron

Kudos to Ron Friedman, Unicron was amazing and that movie is incredible, even death of Optimus Prime and the rise of Ultra Magnus. Incredible, even Galvatron. Talk about taking risk. Amazing, I gave my DVD copy to my nephew, and his father lamented the movie was on repeat every day for years, it was the movie he had seen the most amount of times.

Unicron became something beyond a force of nature in the TF universe after that movie.

I know that Ron’s story about Orson Welles was supposed to be funny, but it really shows what a sad state he was in before he passed. I work at a homeless shelter, and I know guys that are just like him.

The story he tells took place in the late fifties, so almost three decades before Welles died.

I don't quite get Ron's answers though. Yeah it was his feature, but he also said he was forced to kill off Prime, so how do we know what else he was made to add without fans asking?

Killing prime wasn't his idea. They were forced to do it because prime's toy was discontinued in japan

I’m sure Hasbro believed that no one would be willing to buy the same character again, nowadays that’s the whole business model for Transformers.

...Okay, WHAT was the point of that story? Desilu give Welles everything that he could ever want, he gives them a script (in 4 days, no less), it's absolutely brilliant... This SOUNDS like it should end with this washed-up talent getting back on his feet, creating more shows/movies, and enjoying a revival as the great artist that Hollywood and the world once knew him for. But he has the world handed to him on a silver platter, he works for the first time in who-knows-how-long, and this one job is 'too tiring' for him? Is the punchline that Orson Welles was just a brilliant waste of space?

Orson freaking Welles. Possibly the greatest mind for entertainment the world has ever known, and like his first great creation with Mank, Charles Foster Kane, he was swallowed up by his own hubris. When you conquer Radio, Stage and Screen by the time you're 25, what else is left? And even with decimating his health, his multiple marriages, his need for access, his continual issues with the Hollywood studio system that eventually led to his exile from the boulevard of broken dreams. And yet, he somehow continued to make some of the finest films of the 20th century, including his last one, which was finally edited and finished by Netflix a few years ago, called THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND. A fitting epitaph to the big man's career, and as much as I love the irony of his last performance being that of a giant all-consuming planet (befit of his size and ego), though he did do some other animated piece just before his death, but it didn't have the longevity of Unicron.

The Fountain of Youth (1954) is a television pilot directed by Orson Welles for a proposed Desilu Productions anthology series that was never produced.
