Jessica Jung was raised in San Francisco, and lived there until she was about 10 or 11 when she moved to Korea with her family. She is one of the 2 members in SNSD who speak English fluently. Her little sister, Krystal Jung of f(x), also speaks English.

I think in an interview somewhere the girls said that Tiffany grew up mainly speaking English while Jessica grew up speaking Korean and English which would explain why at times she seems to phrase things a little awkwardly

They wanted her to stop her business deal to get her more focused on snsd. but she couldnt because she already had a business deal if she did end it she would have to start all over, also sm didnt want her to have something they couldnt profit off, since her contract was already coming to a end with them they werent allowed to profit off of her business as they would like. So they convinced member to have jessica voted out she wasnt kicked out she was voted out.

+Difa Ayu Balquist No it's not. If you think Krystal speaks better English, you're obviously not a native speaker. If Jessica were to come up to me and start a conversation, I wouldn't think anything of it. Now, if Krystal were to come up to me and start a conversation, I would think she was from a foreign country because of her accent (even though she's from America too). Jessica sounds100% natural and like an American.
I agree. Maybe she didn't get to learn as much as Jessica got to learn. I've seen some of Krystal's English speaking compliation video and I feel she fakes the American or whatever accent she's trying to get. She doesn't sound natural and not very comfortable because she's not using her natural original accent.
I agree, Krystal has more of an accent but Jessica doesn't.

You're welcome! ^^ And when I made this, she wasn't my bias, I just made it because I wanted to hear more of her English but couldn't find any other videos. But these days, I've really been liking her a lot lately, so I guess you can say she's my current bias!
I love how American Kpop Idols, for the girls at least mostly have a cute valley girl accent :) I love Jessi's voice its so light and smooth and I'm mad that I just watched a video compilation of an American speaking English lol

all i can say is, the way she speaks is just perfect for me...
Typical San Franciscan English. People from San Francisco and L.A. would have slight different accents as well. You would know if you live there for long. I come from San Francisco too and her accent sounds more comfortable to me than Tiffany.
Melinda Kim Mak Jessica speaks the way I speak (I'm from Sacramento) and it is more comfortable and understandable than Tiffany's
lol for people who think she has a korean accent in her english, she doesn't. it's just the way she talks; she talks somewhat funny in korean too. and the reason why sm has tiffany talk more is because jessica doesn't really like to talk a lot, be it in english or korean. she gets flustered easily when put on the spot and has a hard time getting all her thoughts out.
Oh, and yeah, I saw that Running Man episode, but I watched that episode only after I made this compilation. Lol :)

Jessica's is more on slang and her voice is so cute wherein Krystal's is more of like laid back.
Is it just me or does Jessica's voice sound a little deeper when she's speaking English? I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who's hearing that. I'm not saying I hate I actually really like it
Well her native language is english so maybe when she speaks korean her voice unknowingly goes up since she did not learn the language and speak the language when she was only a child unlike english. Haha. Just my opinions :)
I think it's pretty common for voices to change pitch when you switch languages. Mine does. I'm bilingual (English and a language called Maori (Cook Islands Maori if you want to be more specific) which you may or may not have heard of) and I used to take French in school. My voice when speaking French, for example, is definitely lower that it is when I speak English.

It's not that Krystal's english is better or Jessica's is better, it is just that Krystal's english is more pleasant (?) to hear idk cause she talks quite clearly but Jess is really good too just that she sometimes doesnt speak clearly or mumbles x) Jung Sisters FTW !

Lol both of them speak English just fine. Both are from America its not liked they had to learn it. Krystal mumbles when she speaks Korean too. Krystal is just a person who mumbles alot.

she still is. it was the horror movie factory series. both her and tiff explained how hard it was to say certain things in korean because they still dont fully understand it still. i remember cuz tiff does a reading in korean and mixed up english in it. jessica explains how its hard to explain emotions then says but in english she goes "Its a Piece of Cake" :))))

Yes, both Jessica and Tiffany have parents of Korean descent. Jessica's parents immigrated to the US in the 1980s but I'm not sure about Tiffany. I do know that Tiffany speaks to her father in English, and not much is known about Tiffany's late mother. Your English is fine, btw :)
I agree. It's the same with any skill, if you don't use it, it will be a little rusty. When I lived in Beijing, I had an American English accent and then I came back to the States, I had trouble thinking in English. Either way, you can tell Jessica's a native, she's just been submerged in Korean for long periods of time. She also looks absolutely stunning in these interviews... I think with her and Fany being English speakers, they'll actually have a chance here.

jessica and tiffany are both born in the US ang english is their first language, so it's not surprising hearing them good on it.
Speaking it with Tiffany and going to international school helped. Maybe she has other Korean-American friends as well. She talks in English sometimes with Krystal and her parents.

i actually prefer sica's english over fany's. i love the slight accent, although she sounds better when she's speaking naturally. overall though, jeti speaking english together is my favorite. they should do that more often. the other members' confused faces would be a bonus. :)
I too, like her, grew up in the US, but when i returned to my home country about the same age as jessica, i still use the language often. But as time passes I started to lose my american accent, and by now it's completely gone. I'm about the same age as her, so i'm not surprised she's have certain difficulties speaking it if she uses korean 99% of the time.

You can really hear the California accent when she says "Support" and it is rubbing off on Seohyun for example when she says "Tour" in the NY1 interview video.
