Another ABBA/Asia experience - I lived in Taipei, Taiwan way back in 1987-88 studying abroad for a year of college, and it was there that I finally was able to purchase a cassette version of Agnetha's "Eyes of a Woman" album, as it was unavailable to purchase in the US in those pre-internet days. As it happened, during that year Agnetha also released her "I Stand Alone" album, and her Peter Cetera duet "I Wasn't the One (To Say Goodbye)" ended up being a top-10 hit on the Taiwan pop charts in June 1988!

While in Sydney, Australia many years ago, I also saw an ABBA poster near the TV tower.
We all know that ABBA is very popular there. What's more, in the same Sydney I bought the CD ABBA the Album.

I'll share a second comment that ABBA's Spanish versions of their songs are indeed really popular in Latin America, even after all of these years. On a more personal note, my husband Alan and his family are all from Venezuela, and one of his aunts's favorite songs was the Spanish version of "Chiquitita." She herself was an amateur singer, and would sing this song out and about in Venezuela. This aunt tragically passed away last year from cancer in June. Alan and I went to see the Voyage show in London two months ago, and of course he was in tears during Chiquitita thinking about his late aunt.

I visited Vietnam in 2019 too but didn’t see ABBA. However, earlier in the year, I visited Peru and ABBA was everywhere. When I exited the airport and got on the bus, “Felicidad” was playing on the radio. And in the streets of the old city area of Lima, I heard a pan flutist playing “Chiquitita.” And “Chiquitita” was played in a restaurant later that day. It was only there that I could truly appreciate the reach that their Spanish language album had in Latin America.

Hello BB, and thanks always! I was in Vietnam with the US ARMY in 69-70 and ABBA unfortunately didn’t exist yet or else we would have been playing the Hell out of it. At that time i do know the Vietnamese were fond of Elvis , Beetles and the Beach Boys.
One time when we had break from the Combat scene, we had a Tribute Band for Bee Gees back at the firebase, and man that felt so good. It felt like being back home and guess what, i was able to live and experience our beloved ABBA years later. We pray for the unfortunate ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice who never had the ABBA experience. ❤ 🙏

I’ve never visited Vietnam, but I have a weird and similar experience where I thought ABBA was virtually everywhere!
It happened five months ago in London. I was there with a good friend of mine on my very first overseas trip in almost a decade. We went to England specifically to see ABBA Voyage, and naturally, and every advertisement of the show was around us. On billboards, and buses, on the tube. By the time we hit our Airbnb in Soho, we heard glimpses of “Mamma Mia” in the streets, and even performers doing their own renditions of “Dancing Queen” to the delight of the Christmas crowd in Chinatown.
It was as if ABBA knew we were there for them. All the while I kept thinking “Ok, we got it. You don’t have to tempt us anymore. We actually DO want to see you!”.
The climax of our trip was, of course, the show. It left such a massive imprint on me that I want to relive it again. Hopefully this year, I’ll be able to do it or sometime before the end of their London run.
I’ll never forget that moment! Thanks for sharing your Vietnam experience, BB! The sights are a beauty.

When I was in Hà Nội for Tết 1996 there was suddenly a short segment about ABBA on the TV news, squeezed in between news about trade unions and production quotas. It reminded me of something similar in Brazil a few years earlier, and how my sister heard their music everywhere in Cape Town in 1976. I don't understand why they were mentioned, but the Vietnamese seem to like them better than the Americans do. And I like Vietnamese pop myself quite a lot.

Well this was absolutely wonderful, relaxing and lovely..all the while paying tribute to our ABBA, who are indeed everywhere. My own experience was on a Norwegian Cruise trip one year. I saw that there was going to be some sort of ABBA event, so I decided to go, expecting it to be cheesy, silly and boring. Was I wrong. If you can picture this: it was on the outside deck. As I approached the area, I heard the unmistakable sounds of ABBA in full stereo. I couldn't quite figure out what was to be. Then I saw it...There was a HUGE, I mean astonishingly huge screen projecting their videos, fifty feet high. Every known video played, one after the other. But that wasn't the beautiful part. What was stunning to me were the HUNDREDS of people watching, dancing and singing to each and every song, not caring how silly we looked, not caring if we could sing or dance. I can't explain it, but it was one of those nearly perfect moments in life that will never be duplicated. I was in tears, because I've been such a fan since 1976, and because when I was a fan back then, ABBA was still trying to make its way into the US market. So I was often by myself in my hero worship. So to experience ABBA with so many fans, so many years later was a joy to me. Thank you for sharing this video. We SO get it!!

Cheesy, pap, kitsch, commercial, etc,or not i 'll just stick to a comment i recently read from a fellow fan and that's a good answer to some of Abba's critical voices....he kinda wrote "which other band could unite 3-4 Gens all together and enjoy simultaneously ' their music so easily not even The Beatles or the Stones".So well said. And your comment also sticks to others who have claimed that whenever an Abba tribute act perform they atract a good amount of crowd there too.

@@christianoazzuro6711 It's true. We were all ages, just dancing, singing and having fun to their videos. It wasn't even an ABBA tribute band..it was just their videos! But when I got there, and saw their videos play and hundreds of people dancing, it was wonderful!
