Thanks to you, Bobby for the video!! What a beautiful place it is.. 😍!! Hope some day can visit it. Love all your videos. Take care, greetings from México 🇲🇽
Hello BB ! First of all , I Love BAB, it's full of exuberant cheer , life and happy good times. I can visually see that ABBA enjoyed performing it. And why not! It's refreshing and constantly moving in joy. The scenery was nice enough for a perfect video. Stockholm is so beautiful already. So BB, thanks for the awesome info about the inside scoop of BAB. One of my ABBA Favs!❤
Bang a Boomerang is such a joyous song for me. I don't know why the boys dislike their work, I think they did a really good job! Abba looked very cute for their "ABBA" album. It is one of my favourite Abba albums.
Such a beautiful place to be. I would love to be there. I can imagine ABBA walking/ parading down the shoreline. Thank you BB for a very informative and an amazing video.❤
Being Australian with a fair share of Swedish ancestry I can’t help but loving them ppl never really understood, which was painful. My own psyche used to ‘get’ me in respect to this song. The Boomerang as we know is an indigenous weapon used by the Australian Aboriginal. I ran around thinking, ‘how on earth did they think of that’? Benny and Bjorn might be a bit harsh on themselves regarding the lyrics. In my mind it’s a stroke of genius and a sophisticated song. Playing it on guitar proves quite a challenge. An Australian television producer spotted their handy work after the ‘Waterloo’ and ‘Ring Ring’ clips were shown here and he then produced a documentary TV show on them for the Australian viewers in prime time; and as far as we’re concerned the rest is history. Clearly beyond a doubt abba had their sights on Australia as a stepping stone. Thanks for this video !
Thank you for all the info on ABBA. In the 70's I was still verry young. During the 80's in High School I became a fan. Today I follow every move of ABBA.
The Australian documentary 'Bang a boomerang" you refered to was just AWESOME!So very convincing.IOne of the best ones ever on Abba.t literally travels you back in time.Unfortunately i can't find it anymore in utube.
Again a most fascinating video ~ thank you for a very well researched history on this Bobby's B. It's their most exuberant, shimmering mid-70s song with exciting, irresistible high pitched vocals. It just screams "Joie de Vivre!"
I too have always loved this song. It was a very early favorite of mine and still is. And as a proud Australian, the lyrics make complete sense to me! 😀
It's actually a nice (longer) walk from the ABBA museum, at Saltsjön, one of the fjards in Stockholm. ABBA did know where to shoot their videos, and Djurgården is featured a lot. One of the most lovely places in town I dare say. ☺ I also love the song and the video. 🥰
I was always curous on this location.I think you did some seldom reference to this in some previous video but now it was about time for me to learn more about it by you.. And wow!what a great job.
Hello again, my dear young friend. and congratulations on another wonderful video of ABBA locations "Bang a Boomerang" is all joy, both the song and the official video The ABBA album is fantastic (the only song I almost don't like is "Man in the middle") and "Bang a Boomerang" is a beautiful song, Agnetha and Frida shine with pure power and harmony in their magical third voice, musically very catchy and enthusiastic And the official video for "Bang a Boomerang" is among the three most joyful ABBA videos, along with "Take a chance on me" and "Head over heels." (and I would add the unofficial "When I kissed the teacher") And it is important to note that many of his images were used appropriately for the official video for "I still have faith in you." If we place ourselves in the context of history, ABBA came from the failure of "So long" to enter the main positions on the charts. (perhaps it did not have an official video at the time, although ABBA made many television appearances with it, relying on the success of "Waterloo") and also the failure of the 1974 tour. The good thing is that ABBA always knew how to draw lessons from non-events. and so they advanced with the official videos for the four songs in just 2 days and that's how it got Australia's attention. and Mamma Mia became a single and took it by storm, and S.O.S. broke the curse in the UK and the rest is the glorious known history and since I said "S.O.S." I have a special hope that you will be able to discover something about the locations and techniques used in its official video. one of my favorites (although most ABBA fans don't see it that way) I hope this is among your projects and you do it I wish you a great weekend My special greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina South America
Hello BB This song and video always makes me smile it’s a brilliant catchy song and the vibrant video gives some charismatic and beautiful energy such a fun song ❤ I do enjoy Sven and Lotta version also 🫶 They where young and so in love in this video and you can tell ❤
I LOVE BANG A BOOM A RANG, I am 58 years old and remember ABBA in 1974 Eurovision. My first time ever seeing and hearing what turned out to be the GREATEST GROUP OF ALL TIME ❤🎉 I WANT TO SAY THANKS FOR ALL THE WORDS-LOVE AND FANTASTIC CONTENT, GOD BLESS YOU ❤❤❤
Great video. It's like the perfect pop song. And yet it was never released in the UK. It made number one in Australia I believe. Absolute perfect pop creation. Even if the (suggestive) words are not their best, the music is pure ABBA.
The song was not released as a single in Australia by Abba. The Svenne and Lotta version was but on reached number 94. Perhaps you are thinking of the Abba TV special, named “Bang-A-Boomerang” that was a ratings hit?
ABBA loved Australia and us Australians and the song Bang a Boomerang was a song that Australia thought that ABBA dedicated to Australia we loved the song and thought it was catchy to sing a long with the lyrics but it was a great song of 1975
So much to learn about the history of the recording and the video for this great song! I've always loved Bang-A-Boomerang, although quite how you bang one, I've never been sure. 🤔 Thanks so much, BB.
I love the outtakes of this clip as shown on 'FAITH' video especially when Frida grabs Agnetha and lifts her up.Btw that Aussie docu you noted('Bang A Boomerang) is wonderful and so well directed. You did a great research and such a fab job.So 'Stop and listen to your heart" was the original title?I love that too.
Merci Bobby's Brother pour cette petite histoire de la chanson Bang - a - boomerang que j'aime beaucoup . C'est extraordinaire cette vidéo . Encore merci ❤❤❤
As always, great research on the song and the video. I love seeing photos and videos from those more carefree early years when they were two happy couples and four good friends.
Since you noted that it wasn't a hit single meaning it wasn't an official intrenational relase....Let's not forget that it was part in every famous ABBA GH/Best of ABBA collection released at the time '75/'76 packed with many other less known'' tracks from their first 3 albums. So all these were given the chance to become massively known to the '70s Abba fans and audiences since these vynils got sold in phenomenal quantities of million copies worldwide.
awesome a new BB video !!!!!!! thank you . After watching this i really love the facts you bring out lije the fact that the girls thought the song was too high to sing but they effortlessly did it anyway. These girls voices are amazing honestly there will never be a duo like this again
I absolutely LOVE "Bang-A-Boomerang"!!! I agree, both the song and its video are among ABBA's most joyful! This song NEVER fails to make me smile, and now, having seen the outtakes in "I Still Have Faith In You", I love the music video even more!!! They just show how seamless the connection was between the official footage and the outtakes, when it comes to the relaxed and joyful atmosphere! Thank you for this fascinating deep-dive, BB!
Another great video that made me appreciate the song even more. I had no idea that there are earlier versions recorded by ABBA and it is one of the few songs I can’t even imagine differently as it it today : an incredibly catchy, uplifting outburst of a song. 🎉
One of my favourite songs and the video always reminded me of watching Batman on TV. I have never heard the 1st version so something to search for. Well researched history and finding the filming location.
Thankyou BB a special favourite song from ABBA for me and the out side video is a masterpiece ,locations and cinematography are perfect for this song .I always get incredibly beautiful vision of Stockholm through all their outside videos and photography ,but best of all the soundtracks to these Swedish vistas is unsurpassed, ABBAsolutely PERFECT G'Day from Australia and Bang a Boomerang mate.
What a fascinating video, thanks BB.. Great to see the history of this song & its video. Like the ‘That’s Me’ video, I loved the feel good fun of this song. Living in Australia I wondered about Svenne & Lotta’s connection with Benny & Bjorn, hearing their version of Bang A Boomerang & there versions of Dance (Where the music still goes on) & even Funky Feet which sounded so similar to ABBA’s production. BB, was Funky Feet actually recorded by Abba for the Arrival sessions? If so has anyone heard a mix? I know Benny & Bjorn thought it sounded like Dancing Queen.. Great location video again BB, thanks again for letting us know about all things Abba, I hope Abba are seeing your hard work..
I love putting original song titles in place of the final one. Who's Gonna Love You in the place of Hasta Mañana, and Stop and Listen to your Heart in place of Bang a Boomerang, as they fit syllable-wise, and then imagining how different the song and arrangement would have been if they had gone with the original/working titles. Yes, I am sadly obsessed with the group 😮😂
Thank you for another great video! Your many videos on ABBA are a testimony of all the hard work that went into their recordings. Your videos are a wealth of information and your passion always shines through. I have been deeply moved more than once. Finally I have a wish, a video about Ted Gärdestad who was discovered by Benny Andersson when he was 14 years old and released his first album in 1972 on Polar Music when he was just 16 years old. On the album Agnetha and Frida provide backing vocals. Abba continued to work with Ted throughout the seventies. Greetings from Ivar in Oslo.
thank you so much for the video. . the eurovisions context is exciting. It explains that the band originally did not want to use the song themselves, although it is very good...
Had to pause the video and look up the Ulla Pia-Version.:) It's nice, but I think the final version fits perfectly in the line of their feisty Glam Rock-Tracks like "So Long" and "Tiger". Speaking of 1975: The recording sessions for Harpo's "Moviestar" and Frida's participation in it could be a topic to discover at some point.:)
wow Stockholm... what a beauuutiful place again!Green landscapes crossed by a calm sea.Do people swim there?I mean Are sea waters safe, cold, deep, shallow etc.I don't know since i live in the South and i am a Mediteranian sea swimmer.
I just get the feeling from my subcouncios of that the dtreet walking is from upper left Hamngatan outside the big Galleria. Zof course I most probably is wrong, but the angle of the up going street and the wide of the pavement and much people it looks n feels like that place.
For me "Bang-A-Boomerang" will always be a Svenne & Lotta song, since I heard their version first, in Melodifestivalen 1975. I would say that their Swedish version is better known than ABBA's English version in Sweden. Svenne Hedlund said years later that he was a bit angry that ABBA decided to record it themselves and sort of stole Svenne & Lotta's hit.
A bit angry?Oh why?I could have been really proud since Abba gave it an internanional 'out of boarders' chance. After all Both Benny/Bjorn were the songwritters and were basic producers to various acts working for Stig's Polar records i think even before Abba.Btw Svenne/Lotta's version was far better that the one attempted by a duo for UK Release of 'Honey Honey" from The Sweet Dreams that was a UK top 10 hit.!That version of HH was really weak and rather 'poor' recording and aged awfully through time while Abba's still sound fresh even today imo.
@@christianoazzuro6711 Svenne and Lotta recorded an English version and released it abroad, but by then the ABBA version had already been released so no one was interested in their version since they believed it was just an ABBA cover. Svenne felt that "Bang-A-Boomerang" was their big chance to make it outside of Scandinavia and that ABBA took that chance away from them.
@@LapsangTe oh yes i see.ABBA' had already break it big in '75 and the S.L 's single got kinda limited in the continental Scandi chart success.Personally Abba's version is unbeatable, to my ears. The only song Abba didn't manage to overtake is Billy G Son's 'I saw it in the mirror"lol.,Abba's version sounded pale if not dull compared to Billy G Son's country blues colours. They didn't fit in this.Of course just my opinion again.
I have been interested in this question for a long time - where the scenes of this ABBA video were filmed, but I could not find this place. Even when I was in Stockholm in 2019, I didn't find it. I was inclined to conclude that it was Skeppsholmen. But over time I found this place on the maps and it turned out to be Djurgården.
After this video I've watched the Svenne & Lotta version of the song, and I must say, it's not my cup of tea. I much prefer the energetic song by ABBA with good voices.
Hello Bobby's Brother. You say here that Bang A Boomerang was never performed on TV. That's not true. I remember very clearly it was performed on Italian TV RAI. In those years ABBA made some passages in Italy and each time they performed a pair of songs at a Sunday afternoon broadcast, always with the same presenter. I perfectly remember some of the songs and the short presentations. I was already an ABBA fan then and Bang a Boomerang was among them. I have written to you about this but had no reply. If you like, we can work together to ask the RAI archives to release those videos. There's a hidden treasure of ABBA videos in those archives. Reply to this message please and we'll try to recover it.
I personally haven't seen it either in any other programme featured as an ABBA TV performance anywhere in the net.But if you're really sure, then maybe it might have survived (if not erased) and exists buried somewhere on RAI tv's archive. So possibly a real rarity.
@@christianoazzuro6711 I have very clear in my mind 5 songs performed in RAI at that Sunday afternoon broadcast, each of them with a brief introduction by the presenter. They are: Dum Dum Diddle; Bang a Boomerang; When I Kissed the Teacher; I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do; When All Is Said and Done. But I'm sure there are more that I don't remember so clearly. And as far as I know the RAI archives are very efficient: they preserve everything.
@@mikhalbruns2414 WAISAD?!I guess that last one must have been the video clip.THE VISITORS was possibly their less promoted album regarding their physical presence in a TV show.As for DDD can you recall was it ABBA in Italy or a presented filmed clip from 1976 SVT 'Abbadabbadoo' show?Cause btw for instance I remember when 'The Winner.." got in the USA top 10,ABBA were presented in the super popular 'Solid Gold" American music programme by Dionne Warwick and we all thought the band was there. But later decades we realised it was the famous 'German TV clip' that had been filmed in Swedish studios for the German music show since ABBA didn't travel for a while after receiving death threats for their children.
@@christianoazzuro6711 They always were guests and the presenter talked with them exchanging some brief questions and answers, then going to perform the song. That Sunday afternoon show was very popular at the time and the host Pippo Baudo, a veteran and icon in RAI, a specialist in presenting music novelties.
@@mikhalbruns2414 However I still doubt the WAISAD since as far as i know Abba's only TV song performances for 1981 (in physical presence) was The Dick Cavet show filmed in April '81 and broadcasted in September '81 featuring the added clip of WAISAD (filmed in the summer of '81) or the 'One of us' clip depending the area shown.Famous tv host D.Cavet visited Stockholm to get them in his show.Of course ABBA were featured in various TV shows in 1981(Dutch tv/Argentinian interviews etc) on which the tv presenters/journalists traveled in Sweden to get them as well.BTW a very accurate source of ABBA's step by step timeline story(recordings/tv appearences/photo sessions-all stated chronically ) is Raffael and Stefans precious site.a real treasure for every fan.
Thank you all for watching my video!

Being Australian with a fair share of Swedish ancestry I can’t help but loving them ppl never really understood, which was painful. My own psyche used to ‘get’ me in respect to this song.
I much prefer the energetic song by ABBA with good voices.
you will get love in return

Too bad that Melodifestivalen 1975 is so badly preserved part of intro is missing and the picture quality is not as great as Melodifestivalen 1974.

Love ABBA but this is their worst effort ... a very h high cringe factor on this one. Stick with what you do/did best.
