      Brompton has many special pieces and at the beginning it is a lot of information to keep.
      When the mechanic explained to me about the gear setting, I found it very complicated and asked to make a film because it was easier to understand.
      I've watch it several times before I memorized how to change the back tire.

    When your seatpost liner tube is worn, it needs to be replaced by a professional bike fitter because the new liner tube will also need to be precision reamed to fit the seatpost properly. It's not just a case of fitting a new one yourself. Cleaning your seatpost regularly will prolong the life of the liner tube. Over-tightening the clamp bolt can damage the frame. You want no more than 3 or 4mm of the threads showing above the nut. If the nut is tightened to this amount already and the post still slips, then it's time to have a new liner tube fitted.

    Hi Chris, Nice tips. I also had the problem with the original seatpost slipping down. It is important to not over tighten the bolt on the clamp because it can crack the frame where the post is inserted. It should be 5-8NM torque while the clamp is engaged. I since replaced the original seatpost with a telescopic one. The new one does not slip. Not sure why.
    I will be sure to always fully open the clamp when raising or lowering the seat.
    Thanks,
    Myron

    Careful here! There are two pieces of plastic inside the Brompton seat tube. One limits the height to which the seat post can be raised, and this one you can adjust for yourself with a pair of scissors. The other one, the seatpost sleeve, provides the surface through which the seatpost slides up and down and by which it is clamped into place. According to my manual, this one might need to be reamed to a precise size, after installation, by a dealer. The tool required appears to cost about £45...

    • @ChrisbyBike
      @ChrisbyBike  3 роки тому +1

      Hi David Powell
      That's right, there are two plastic adjustments to the Brompton tube.
      The height adjustment is not damaged in this case.
      But the plastic sleeve that holds the seat, if it does not fully open the lever, with repeated use time it can be damaged.
      Here in Brazil it costs R $ 72.00, equivalent to $ 12.80 American dollars.
      At Brilliant Bike London Store is £6.00.
      I confess that I still haven't changed mine to find out if the labor cost is expensive.
      But the piece is cheap.
      Now I'm curious about the service. If you do it, please tell me.
      One more reason to pay attention when moving up and down the seat.
      Nice to have you on Board.

      @davidpowell5437 3 роки тому +1

      @@ChrisbyBike Oh I'm hoping not to have to do this for a good long while! You are, of course correct - it is so easy to open the clamp fully that it is silly to cut corners and damage the sleeve. As you say, the component is cheap, and, to be honest, I have read at least one owner saying that he simply replaced the sleeve, pushed his seatpost back in and rode away. But if you replace one and then can't get your seat post back in - this is what has to happen: ua-cam.com/video/etHrXIcAz3A/v-deo.html Hope that helps with the curiosity!
