Metal Ceiling Install ― Lifting a Steel Panel, Then This Happened!!! 😊

  • Finally, the first piece of tin has gone up in the post frame woodshop!!! This first row is by far the most difficult row to install so it will be slow going for awhile - but there is a tiny piece of a ceiling in the shop! If it were not for the installation of the lift, I may have gotten two panels up, but this first row is going to be difficult because the garage door hardware is in the way of two thirds of the panels the will go in this area 😐
    On the bright side - the panels are going up, and with every panel that does go up there is more space that can be heated if need be. All I need to do is set up the torpedo heater under the part of the shop that has a ceiling and the hot air rising will go right past me as I work and the heater can be pointed at me while working on the ground. There are only three more days in the ten day forecast that are in the upper thirties, then the daytime temperatures drop ten degrees and the high only reaches the mid 20's (-4℃) for the foreseeable future, with the nighttime temperatures hovering near zero (-18 ℃). Wish me luck, I need to get this done ASAP, but I need to get it done right!

    All of the prep work up in the rafters is finally over, and the first of the metal panels is in place!!! The hardest area to get the panes in is right where I started, so it will be slow going to begin with, but there are only eleven rows so with any luck I will be in a warm shop before you know it!

      Do you know what type of screws you used?

    • @PlanetMojo
      @PlanetMojo  Рік тому +1

      @@440hemifish The screws are oval head screws that are made for the ceiling panels. You should be able to find them wherever you get your tin from.

    Great to see the tin finally going up, hopefully you can beat the worst of the cold weather! 🥶

      The weather is settling down to mostly 30's during the day which is pretty tolerable! It had dipped to near zero for awhile there but luckily I should have ceiling done before that weather comes back again. 😊

      They certainly do! I couldn't imagine lifting insanely heavy drywall up there!

      I believe you are referring to Patty Price. You are correct, she hasn't commented in awhile. I hope she's OK as well! If you're reading this Patty, give us a comment to let us know you're OK! 😊

    Hi Mojo, well that was interesting, a little bit of drama with the lift but it looks like it's going to look great when it's done. BTW do you have a river falls and St Paul in your area? The reason I ask is I'm reading a thriller based in and around Wisconsin.

    • @PlanetMojo
      @PlanetMojo  Рік тому +5

      Thanks Larry! Yes, both River Falls and St. Paul are upriver from us by Minneapolis. The Mississippi River goes right through St. Paul, and River Falls is a suburb of St Paul on the Kinnickinnic River. River Falls is about ten miles from one of our nieces who lives in Hudson WI. Very beautiful up there, but too many people for my liking 😉

    I nailed 1x6 to the bottom of my joists making a upside down T. Then I just cut 2 inch foil faced foam on dropped it in just like a suspended ceiling panel. Blew insulation on top of that. Super cheap and super easy.

      My jousts are four feet apart. Any foam spanning between them would never carry the weight, but I wouldn't try that even at two feet. Even with no weight on it, XPS foam will start sagging pretty quick. Maybe 2' x 2' squares would work, but all that framing would cost much more than tin.

    @planetmojo do you know what kinda fasteners you used?

    • @PlanetMojo
      @PlanetMojo  Рік тому +1

      They were the round head version of the same screws that hold the tin on the main post frame (The shorter ones do not have the rubber washer). They called them "button heads". We got ours from the Amish.

    It must be exhausting going up and down that ladder. How high is the ceiling?

    • @PlanetMojo
      @PlanetMojo  Рік тому +3

      It certainly is, and doing it in the cold seems to make things even more exhausting. I'll be very glad when this ceiling is done and I can get back to working at ground level! Edit: missed them "how high" question. It's 12' truss to grade so right about 11 1/2 feet with the concrete floor.
