  • Dentist Orville D. Williams, DDS has had a practice on Asheville's south side for more than a decade. But Monday when 57-year-old Johnny Gaddy went for his 6-month bi-annual cleaning, he found Williams' office shut down and all equipment gone.
"No phone call, no letter, nothing from him," said Gaddy. "I think Orville Williams is unprofessional, uncaring," said Gaddy. "He's put me and other patients at risk because I do not know where my records are. And identity theft is a real problem. He has a copy of my photo id, a copy of my social security card, where are they and what has he done with them."
"I called Buncombe County DSS because my husband is on Medicaid," said Sheila Gaddy. "They told me they could not help me. They gave me a careline number they said they didn't deal with this these situations. We don't know where to turn."
News Thirteen notified the State Board of Dental Examiners and the Chief Operations Officer.
"We would like to hear from these patients," said Bobby White, COO with the Board. "So people out there who have been abandoned or in mid treatment we really would like to know who they are. Patient abandonment is a violation of rules, a violation of standard of care. That's something the board takes very seriously and investigates thoroughly."
News Thirteen contacted Dr. Williams' attorney who negotiated breaking the dentist's office space rental lease in April but the attorney said he had no contact with the dentist and didn't know if or where in North Carolina he was practicing.
Retired dentist and former Asheville Councilman Joe Dunn rented the space to Dr. Williams across from Mission Hospital. He allowed Williams to break his lease because, Dunn said, Williams was constantly delinquent on rent and association fees at Doctor's Park on Biltmore Avenue.
"As a member of a profession I love, I just want patients taken care of. That's the primary responsibility of any dentist," said Dunn. Dunn also pointed out thousands of dollars in damage, he said. Williams did to his office including repair work to the office space Williams didn't take care of when he vacated the space.
News Thirteen also obtained a report from the State Board of Dental Examiners from 2002. It shows Williams was disciplined for negligence in caring for a patient.
"I want him held accountable," said Johnny Gaddy. "Because in his position, he should be held accountable for unprofessional conduct."
If you would like to contact the dentistry board or file a complaint go to North Carolina's State Board of Dental Examiners.

This dentist is now located at Affordable Dentures and Implants Conover, NC. Has had a lot of bad reviews there as well.
