Thanks for watching! Janet pointed out that some of you might not understand the term MOA. It is an abreviation for Minute Of Angle. Most hunting scopes have click adjustments that are calibrated in fractions of inches, i.e. 1/4", 1/8". etc. per click. This typically means that is how far the point of impact of your bullet will move with each click of the scope turrets. This particular scope is set up with 1/2 MOA clicks. So each click moves the point of impact a Minute of angle or roughly 1/2" at 100 yards, which translates to 1" at 200 yards, and 1 and 1/2" at 300 yards. The Hornady ballistic calculator just happens to canculate MOA, which makes adjustments easier.
One thing to point out for people (if you don't mind): there is no Imperial vs. Metric in angular measurements. It's two unique systems that define angles, where the shooter's shoulder is the fulcrum, and the muzzle is the radial pivot. One is minutes and the other is radians. Divisions of minutes and divisions of radians are sub-divided as "seconds" or "milli" (as in deci-, centi-, milli-....divisions of 10) respectively.

Impressed with the performance of the rifle and the ammo. Surprised with the “wind drift”. I shoot a lot of 45-70 out of single shot rifles (Sharps, High Wall, Rolling Block, 1886) and rarely experience that kind of wind drift using black and smokeless powder and 405 to 535 gr lead cast bullets. Thanks for the time, effort and expense of bringing this video to us George!!!
What? I thought modern 45-70 loadings weren't safe in the Sharps. They were only meant for cartridge loading of a 405 grain bullet propelled by a powder charge of 70 grains of black powder. Unless the new ones are beefier. I don't know much about sharps. I have a Ruger #1 in 45-70 falling block.

Great choice to include Sub-X. That time of flight to 300 on the Sub-X really shows that you should keep it inside 100 for hunting. The target could do all kinds of things in the time it takes for it to get there

Man that was a lot of work you put into the video. A lot of shooting, riding down range and repainting the targets, research, practice and more. I even noticed when driving down range you anchored the 100 and 200 yard call outs to stick with the target. That was a lot of ammo too. I posted a video the other day called Plinking with the 45-70. I had a box of Fiocchi 45-70 Government 405 Grain Lead Round Nose Flat Point. It is listed as Shooting Dynamics Ammunition, but I've been referring to it as Cowboy Action ammo. The advertised MV is 1185 FPS. I zeroed the gun with the Federal Fusion 300 grain at 80 yards so the 405 grain drops a lot at that distance. Anyway, I love just offhand shooting this big old slow round and put together the clips of each time I had it out and when I was just slinging lead down range. Nothing compared to the long hard work that you've put into making this video for sure. So thanks so much for your hard work.

Yes, there are other channels where individuals can free-stand in a breeze and lob .45-70 with a ladder sight to 1k yards and hit a 2-foot plate after a few tries. But those are clearly exceptional people. You are what I'd refer to as the every-man in capability. Don't feel bashful about sharing what kind of shooting you'd rather do, and rather not do. Wish Ruger's new Marlins were a little more in reach cost-wise. I feel like reaching for a Miroku 1886 in .45-90 so long as I'm already in that zone. Haha

Wow, what a great group at 300-yards with the Leverevolution ammo. In fact, that rifle seems to be very accurate with pretty much all of the ammo you used! I'm sure you are very pleased to own that rifle.
You are correct roy! I am really pleased with this gun. I knew it had shot fairly well but didn't know it was capable of these kinds of groups at 200 and 300 yards. Now I wish I had 400 or 500 yards available😉

Thanks George, I was really looking forward to this one. That 325 grain FTX was extremely impressive, but I think the 410 grain sub would be great for deer hunting in the dense woods of eastern Ohio.
You are welcome! I wouldn't hesitate to hunt deer with that Sub-X bullet. It expands really well, and as we all found out here, it's very accurate at 100 yards.
Haha! I like to see where I hit. But there's so much paint built up on those targets I've had to start grinding it down. It's getting to where when I hit in one place paint pops off everywhere and then I don't know which was the hit and which is the pop.
Great video and good to see you again. Just a tough time to start a shooting channel during an ammo shortage! You had help to start with donations from stashes as the shelves were bare. Now ammo is coming back to the shelves piecemeal but very expensive. Hopefully, in another year ammo prices and availability will be back to normal once the smaller cartridges are caught up. 45-70, I would guess, will always be expensive. As you know, 35 Remington is hard to find and expensive when you do. A am more apt to buy another Dillon. RCBS or ??? set up for cartridges like these. $300 ammo equals one Rebel RCBS master kit on sale. One seller on GB sold 100 rounds of Remington 35 Remington for $665 plus shipping and tax in Jan 2022! My Marlin barely cost that much! Just like my ammo stash supply, slow and steady as it goes, I like the patreon route but, THANKS to all of those that chip in with a nice donation for your videos.
Target Suite, very interesting video. I have the same rifle here in England and what shocked me is that the prices on your ammo box are just about on parity for what we pay here for the same ammo (US Dollar to UK Pound converted). I always assumed that 45/70 would be half or less in the USA! I use the 325 Lever Evolution for deer and can get great accuracy with them out to 130 yards even with iron sights. I actually use my own home made iron sights created from a modified Sako 85 rear ramp but holding my own design of "Open V" dangerous game type blade with a High Vis modified front blade (I descend from a family of big game hunters and have my Granddads 500 double Tolley which gave me the inspiration for the rear sight profile as he designed that for Tiger shooting). Because I seldom encounter our big Red deer here at more than 50 yards and as I am "walking them up" and shooting straight off the shoulder on sight, rather than from a rest in a hide, I get better results without a scope. I can burst a 2 litre Coke bottle dead centre at 130 yards with this sight set up with no problem. Only rifle that I still use iron sights with actually. Such a lovely rifle to carry and use in the woods. You did fantastic shooting there at 300 yards congratulations!
I have to give you credit for the punishment on your shoulder. I have a 45/70 Remington guide gun. So I’ve shot the 405 grain flat nose and the Hornady 325 leaverevolution. The first time I shot the Hornady I could not believe the power that it had. I thought HOLY SMOKES! WOW. Yeah I wouldn’t want to shoot a box of them in one sitting. My hats off to you.
That is some amazing shooting, well done thanks for the video. I tip my hat to you. I had to retire my 11 lb 1885 Uberti Hi Wall 4570 the recoil was just too much. I was shooting a 510 grain Postell over 67 greens black powder, After 20 rounds or so my vision started to go away and became blurry. So shooting that light lever gun with that much recoil AND being so accurate is admirable…
Ive got a Marlin made Marlin 1895, I had a triger job done on it, and tightened the head space. Ive accuracy tested just about every factory load for it, and found Winchester Supreme 350 Grain Partition Point to be the most accurate, and consistantly get 1" 5 Shot groups !!!

UA-cam artificial intelligence really likes a consistent delivery. And there have been a couple of events lately that have had me off of UA-cam for a few months at a time.
I like your videos as you know. This one was perfect, since I used to have the same gun, but only with a bit longer barrel. I would call your range a dream range BTW. Subsonic ammo would be even better with some kind of silencer. I was impressed with the accuracy of all your tested cartridges. Subsonics are always a bit less accurate. Regards from Czech Republic.
Nice video! Looks like Ruger got it right with the Marlin lever gun. I always knew Marlin 336's were a great design and more accurate than people gave 'em credit for being. Glad to see Ruger keep 'em alive and produce a quality rifle in the process.
I bought an 1895 SBL back around December 2022. Still haven't fired it yet due to ammo prices. Crazy expensive and I'm way too cheap to go blast out $300 of ammo for funsies. Thank you for that sacrifice on our behalf.

Good shooting! One thing I noticed with your Ruger-Marlin is the improved loading gate operation. I have a model 1895 in .44 mag that was one of Remington’s made towards the end of their ownership of Marlin. That loading gate was as stiff as hell and sharp on the edges. I actually used 5 bandaids to patch up my fingers from loading the magazine the first time. The rifle shot fine but Remingtons attention to detail was dismal. I had to take a stone to all the edges when I got home.
Great video! I have always wanted a 45-70, and finally picked one up a few years ago (Remington made). She is absolutely beautiful and I was excited to sight her in. I have a full three rounds through her now, and she is still beautiful in my safe. 6 boxes is just studly!
Nice shooting and great video. I love my 45-70 Marlin Guide Gun. I am at the age where I could not shoot as many 45-70 rounds as you did in this video with out wearing a PAST shoulder recoil pad. They help a lot. I also like the Hornady FTX 325 gn bullet and reload my own ammo. These rifles are super accurate. Short barrel, stiff and almost thick enough to be described as a bull barrel. Ruger seems to be making some very nice lever guns. About the Marlin Brand was making a come back.
I have gotten the same accuracy with a Remlin and the Leverevolution. Also, I run about 1.5” at 100 yards with 300 grain TSXs. It’s interesting though, that my 1895 still has a “JM” stamped barrel. I’ve found the issues with the Remlin are cosmetic, not functional.
@@phild9813 I have a 1895 abl 45-70 and a 336 30-30 and my front sight on the 30-30 came sitting way off to the left.. I've noticed different ammo in my 45-70 have huge shifts in point of impact and I haven't gotten it zero'd yet due to ammo cost but I run open sights so anything past 50 and my front sight will block the target and it's not very precise.. want to put a red dot on it kinda the 30-30 is a remlin and the 45-70 is older not sure if it is a remlin or not
Anyone who finds .45-70 long range funny, would be made a fool out at the creedmore range in the black powder era!!! They were shooting at 1,000 yards before anyones great grandfathers were born!!! It was the best long range cartridge before spitzer bullets and smokeless powder. This whole thing shows how backwards we’ve gone and now we’re rediscovering things that aren’t at all new but seem new.
I run a 535gr Lyman Postell over 70gr Holy Black in my 32" 1874 Sharps Business Rifle. Don't use a levergun as the metric for true .45-70 accuracy and performance.
I bought a Winchester 1886, 1 of 3000, hand engraved, gold enlay, 24 inch octagonal barrel, high grade. I fired the only 12 rounds thru it. Wish I could show you big hole at 100 yards from that Hornady 325 grain FTX. That is the first time and only time the gun has been fired. With a little practice you could get comfortable shooting a deer at 300 yards. I use to fret about shooting 500 yards, now I fret at 2000 yards :) I built my own 300WSM just for that. Love the videos. Yea it gets expensive.

Haha! I think the stars must have been lined up because it was pleasant to shoot. I was a little worried though because I had never shot that many 45-70 rounds over 3 days. Heck, just that last day I shot over 60 rounds
Hi, Thanks for good vid on 45-70. IMO highest velocities and flattest trajectory means more effective hits when hunting. No one wants to lose an animal mortally wounded, is a waste. Target shooting is different. In Australia on Sambar deer I stalk use 300grn hollow point Sierras and Woodleigh 300grn flat nose to 2300 fps chronographed. This gives much longer range than factory ammo albeit up to 150mm/ 6 inch concussion area on the meat which is enough for me to sacrifice. I use Aussie powder to get that as U.S. powders hard to get here which is mystery for a western compliant country under free trade. My 45-70 is original Marlin microgroove 22 inch barrel.

Awesome shooting George. You can really tell how much faster the Lever Evolution ammo is by the report from the rifle to the steel sounding off compared to the other two loads. Nice shooting can't wait to get my own Guide gun. Thanks for the great review and info. 👍
Yeah I was kind of counting at 300 yards with the subsonics. It seemed like it would take a second and a half -ish to get down there. Pretty wild. A lot of time for the wind to affect that bullet.
Great video, I love my Marlin 1895 45-70, I shoot out to 300 as well, have taken a deer at 200(my limit) But….$53 a box!!!!!!!!! Two words…, Start Reloading…. It costs me about $0.75 per hunting round and I get great accuracy. Even less about $0.45 per round for plinking ammo.
Very interesting and entertaining! I have JM Marlin Guide Gun that I bought new in 2000, for a whopping $362 (I had an FFL, hence below MSRP). It has the straight grip and the ported barrel. I like the new ones better with the pistol grip and nicer walnut. Mine has the Skinner aperture sight as I refuse to put a scope on a lever gun. Yes, I know it limits range and enlarges group size. I am impressed with this video and your shooting. All my ammo consists of my handloads with various cast and jacketed bullets, but I would like to try the Hornady sub-sonic. In your shooting, it takes noticeably longer to reach 300 yards. I thought all three loads performed remarkably well.
Great video! The .45-70 is an awesome caliber & this rifle is as good as you are. I shoot to 250 regularly & have put 3 Hornady's through 1 hole twice at 100.

Verrry interesting test George. I've found the Hornady is quite a bit 'hotter' than most of the factory ammo I've bought. The Remington is a lot lighter in recoil but I'm unsure as to the actual fps. I've just got my own chrono and am very curious to see what the difference in fps between the factory ammo's and my reloads. I've discovered the benefit of a good Red Dot and have installed them on a few of the rifles. I have put a scope on the Marlin 1985 45-70 and am very happy reaching out to 200 + yrds. The red dots are a bit more difficult at the greater distances but so much easier for my eyes now.
Thanks for your comment! The Hornady ammo is hotter by about 200 ft per second. I opted to not share any of the chronograph data just to keep it simple especially since I was dealing with Factory ammo with published data.
George, while you are at it, see if you can get Ruger to run their # 3 single shot rifles again. Couldn’t afford one when they came out. Now I would buy one of every caliber they might make.🙏
Like you, I was really surprised at the Precision the Ruger made Marlin Barrel is capable of. That sure opens up a lot of possibilities for having fun, if you know what I mean.
My brand new "Remlin" 1895 GBL was $475 in 2017. Its MOA. No issues with fit / finish. Taken apart. Smooth. A lot has changed in 6 years. Triple the price now. Wow.
Good info. A few things have happened since 2017. Marlin went out of business selling those rifles at that price point. Comparable Henry Rifles now sell near $1100. Winchester 92s and 94s are $1200-$1400. And Marlins are back, as good or better than they've been in decades and priced just above the Henry's. In a way, it stinks. But premium all steel leverguns are just expensive to make.
I thought Marlin went out of business because they were owned by Remington. Remington went bankrupt because the globalist agenda allows lawsuits against manufacturers. Basically suing a car company because someone drove drunk. But it only applies to firearms. New world order. Guns are bad. Mmmmk
The 45-70 ain't no lie ... If your up against big mean nasty critters in North America then look no further. Also carry a 7.5" SAA Bounty Hunter in .44 mag this gives me comfort as well with bear loads. Thanks for a great video

Well said! Fun to shoot, and certainly effective within 100 yards. But just not appropriate for longer range hunting.
No reason to ever shoot the subsonic ammo over 100 yards
What’s the purpose of this ammo? Better close range takedown power perhaps?
Wouldn’t the twist rate affect the accuracy with the lower muzzle velocity? Maybe there’s a specific barrel matched to the subsonic ammunition?

Yes, there are other channels where individuals can free-stand in a breeze and lob .45-70 with a ladder sight to 1k yards and hit a 2-foot plate after a few tries. But those are clearly exceptional people. You are what I'd refer to as the every-man in capability. Don't feel bashful about sharing what kind of shooting you'd rather do, and rather not do. Wish Ruger's new Marlins were a little more in reach cost-wise. I feel like reaching for a Miroku 1886 in .45-90 so long as I'm already in that zone. Haha

Wow, what a great group at 300-yards with the Leverevolution ammo. In fact, that rifle seems to be very accurate with pretty much all of the ammo you used! I'm sure you are very pleased to own that rifle.
You are correct roy! I am really pleased with this gun. I knew it had shot fairly well but didn't know it was capable of these kinds of groups at 200 and 300 yards. Now I wish I had 400 or 500 yards available😉
I have a Henry .357 mag Big Boy, and the leverevolution ammo always shoots the tightest groups.

Thanks George, I was really looking forward to this one. That 325 grain FTX was extremely impressive, but I think the 410 grain sub would be great for deer hunting in the dense woods of eastern Ohio.
You are welcome! I wouldn't hesitate to hunt deer with that Sub-X bullet. It expands really well, and as we all found out here, it's very accurate at 100 yards.

Haha! I like to see where I hit. But there's so much paint built up on those targets I've had to start grinding it down. It's getting to where when I hit in one place paint pops off everywhere and then I don't know which was the hit and which is the pop.
Great video and good to see you again. Just a tough time to start a shooting channel during an ammo shortage! You had help to start with donations from stashes as the shelves were bare. Now ammo is coming back to the shelves piecemeal but very expensive. Hopefully, in another year ammo prices and availability will be back to normal once the smaller cartridges are caught up. 45-70, I would guess, will always be expensive. As you know, 35 Remington is hard to find and expensive when you do. A am more apt to buy another Dillon. RCBS or ??? set up for cartridges like these. $300 ammo equals one Rebel RCBS master kit on sale. One seller on GB sold 100 rounds of Remington 35 Remington for $665 plus shipping and tax in Jan 2022! My Marlin barely cost that much! Just like my ammo stash supply, slow and steady as it goes, I like the patreon route but, THANKS to all of those that chip in with a nice donation for your videos.

Target Suite, very interesting video. I have the same rifle here in England and what shocked me is that the prices on your ammo box are just about on parity for what we pay here for the same ammo (US Dollar to UK Pound converted). I always assumed that 45/70 would be half or less in the USA! I use the 325 Lever Evolution for deer and can get great accuracy with them out to 130 yards even with iron sights. I actually use my own home made iron sights created from a modified Sako 85 rear ramp but holding my own design of "Open V" dangerous game type blade with a High Vis modified front blade (I descend from a family of big game hunters and have my Granddads 500 double Tolley which gave me the inspiration for the rear sight profile as he designed that for Tiger shooting). Because I seldom encounter our big Red deer here at more than 50 yards and as I am "walking them up" and shooting straight off the shoulder on sight, rather than from a rest in a hide, I get better results without a scope. I can burst a 2 litre Coke bottle dead centre at 130 yards with this sight set up with no problem. Only rifle that I still use iron sights with actually. Such a lovely rifle to carry and use in the woods. You did fantastic shooting there at 300 yards congratulations!

I have to give you credit for the punishment on your shoulder. I have a 45/70 Remington guide gun. So I’ve shot the 405 grain flat nose and the Hornady 325 leaverevolution. The first time I shot the Hornady I could not believe the power that it had. I thought HOLY SMOKES! WOW. Yeah I wouldn’t want to shoot a box of them in one sitting. My hats off to you.

I had to retire my 11 lb 1885 Uberti Hi Wall 4570 the recoil was just too much. I was shooting a 510 grain Postell over 67 greens black powder,
After 20 rounds or so my vision started to go away and became blurry.
So shooting that light lever gun with that much recoil AND being so accurate is admirable…
Ive got a Marlin made Marlin 1895, I had a triger job done on it, and tightened the head space. Ive accuracy tested just about every factory load for it, and found Winchester Supreme 350 Grain Partition Point to be the most accurate, and consistantly get 1" 5 Shot groups !!!
45-70 is hands down my favorite cartridge! Love my Custom JM 1895 GS 45-70 much! 🇺🇸🤠

Thank you! I really appreciate your comment. I'm thankful for the subs that I have, but the growth of that number has been affected a little bit by some of the time I have taken off for family. UA-cam artificial intelligence really likes a consistent delivery. And there have been a couple of events lately that have had me off of UA-cam for a few months at a time.
I like your videos as you know. This one was perfect, since I used to have the same gun, but only with a bit longer barrel. I would call your range a dream range BTW. Subsonic ammo would be even better with some kind of silencer. I was impressed with the accuracy of all your tested cartridges. Subsonics are always a bit less accurate. Regards from Czech Republic.

Nice video! Looks like Ruger got it right with the Marlin lever gun. I always knew Marlin 336's were a great design and more accurate than people gave 'em credit for being. Glad to see Ruger keep 'em alive and produce a quality rifle in the process.

I bought an 1895 SBL back around December 2022. Still haven't fired it yet due to ammo prices. Crazy expensive and I'm way too cheap to go blast out $300 of ammo for funsies. Thank you for that sacrifice on our behalf.

Good shooting! One thing I noticed with your Ruger-Marlin is the improved loading gate operation. I have a model 1895 in .44 mag that was one of Remington’s made towards the end of their ownership of Marlin. That loading gate was as stiff as hell and sharp on the edges. I actually used 5 bandaids to patch up my fingers from loading the magazine the first time. The rifle shot fine but Remingtons attention to detail was dismal. I had to take a stone to all the edges when I got home.

Great video! I have always wanted a 45-70, and finally picked one up a few years ago (Remington made). She is absolutely beautiful and I was excited to sight her in. I have a full three rounds through her now, and she is still beautiful in my safe. 6 boxes is just studly!
Nice shooting and great video. I love my 45-70 Marlin Guide Gun. I am at the age where I could not shoot as many 45-70 rounds as you did in this video with out wearing a PAST shoulder recoil pad. They help a lot. I also like the Hornady FTX 325 gn bullet and reload my own ammo. These rifles are super accurate. Short barrel, stiff and almost thick enough to be described as a bull barrel.
Ruger seems to be making some very nice lever guns. About the Marlin Brand was making a come back.

I have gotten the same accuracy with a Remlin and the Leverevolution. Also, I run about 1.5” at 100 yards with 300 grain TSXs. It’s interesting though, that my 1895 still has a “JM” stamped barrel. I’ve found the issues with the Remlin are cosmetic, not functional.

I have the same model. Pre rugar and I get between 1 and 1.75 moa depending on the ammo I use.
@@phild9813 I have a 1895 abl 45-70 and a 336 30-30 and my front sight on the 30-30 came sitting way off to the left.. I've noticed different ammo in my 45-70 have huge shifts in point of impact and I haven't gotten it zero'd yet due to ammo cost but I run open sights so anything past 50 and my front sight will block the target and it's not very precise.. want to put a red dot on it kinda the 30-30 is a remlin and the 45-70 is older not sure if it is a remlin or not
Anyone who finds .45-70 long range funny, would be made a fool out at the creedmore range in the black powder era!!! They were shooting at 1,000 yards before anyones great grandfathers were born!!!
It was the best long range cartridge before spitzer bullets and smokeless powder. This whole thing shows how backwards we’ve gone and now we’re rediscovering things that aren’t at all new but seem new.

I run a 535gr Lyman Postell over 70gr Holy Black in my 32" 1874 Sharps Business Rifle. Don't use a levergun as the metric for true .45-70 accuracy and performance.

I bought a Winchester 1886, 1 of 3000, hand engraved, gold enlay, 24 inch octagonal barrel, high grade. I fired the only 12 rounds thru it. Wish I could show you big hole at 100 yards from that Hornady 325 grain FTX. That is the first time and only time the gun has been fired. With a little practice you could get comfortable shooting a deer at 300 yards. I use to fret about shooting 500 yards, now I fret at 2000 yards :) I built my own 300WSM just for that. Love the videos. Yea it gets expensive.

Hi, Thanks for good vid on 45-70. IMO highest velocities and flattest trajectory means more effective hits when hunting. No one wants to lose an animal mortally wounded, is a waste. Target shooting is different. In Australia on Sambar deer I stalk use 300grn hollow point Sierras and Woodleigh 300grn flat nose to 2300 fps chronographed. This gives much longer range than factory ammo albeit up to 150mm/ 6 inch concussion area on the meat which is enough for me to sacrifice. I use Aussie powder to get that as U.S. powders hard to get here which is mystery for a western compliant country under free trade. My 45-70 is original Marlin microgroove 22 inch barrel.

I love my Marlin Guide Gun in 45/70. With the Hornady325 gr. It shoots 1inch or less at 100yards , and is deadly on deer.

Awesome shooting George. You can really tell how much faster the Lever Evolution ammo is by the report from the rifle to the steel sounding off compared to the other two loads. Nice shooting can't wait to get my own Guide gun. Thanks for the great review and info. 👍

Yeah I was kind of counting at 300 yards with the subsonics. It seemed like it would take a second and a half -ish to get down there. Pretty wild. A lot of time for the wind to affect that bullet.
That lever revolution ammo literally adds about 100 yards of effective range over traditional ammo even in a 30-30

It costs me about $0.75 per hunting round and I get great accuracy. Even less about $0.45 per round for plinking ammo.
That new Marlin looks like it works pretty well and my dad told me that lever evolution was some hot stuff.

Very interesting and entertaining! I have JM Marlin Guide Gun that I bought new in 2000, for a whopping $362 (I had an FFL, hence below MSRP). It has the straight grip and the ported barrel. I like the new ones better with the pistol grip and nicer walnut. Mine has the Skinner aperture sight as I refuse to put a scope on a lever gun. Yes, I know it limits range and enlarges group size. I am impressed with this video and your shooting. All my ammo consists of my handloads with various cast and jacketed bullets, but I would like to try the Hornady sub-sonic. In your shooting, it takes noticeably longer to reach 300 yards. I thought all three loads performed remarkably well.
Maybe those old timers shooting straight wall black powder cartridges knew a few things.

Verrry interesting test George. I've found the Hornady is quite a bit 'hotter' than most of the factory ammo I've bought. The Remington is a lot lighter in recoil but I'm unsure as to the actual fps. I've just got my own chrono and am very curious to see what the difference in fps between the factory ammo's and my reloads. I've discovered the benefit of a good Red Dot and have installed them on a few of the rifles. I have put a scope on the Marlin 1985 45-70 and am very happy reaching out to 200 + yrds. The red dots are a bit more difficult at the greater distances but so much easier for my eyes now.
Thanks for your comment! The Hornady ammo is hotter by about 200 ft per second. I opted to not share any of the chronograph data just to keep it simple especially since I was dealing with Factory ammo with published data.
George, while you are at it, see if you can get Ruger to run their # 3 single shot rifles again. Couldn’t afford one when they came out. Now I would buy one of every caliber they might make.🙏

My brand new "Remlin" 1895 GBL was $475 in 2017. Its MOA. No issues with fit / finish. Taken apart. Smooth. A lot has changed in 6 years. Triple the price now. Wow.
Good info. A few things have happened since 2017. Marlin went out of business selling those rifles at that price point. Comparable Henry Rifles now sell near $1100. Winchester 92s and 94s are $1200-$1400. And Marlins are back, as good or better than they've been in decades and priced just above the Henry's. In a way, it stinks. But premium all steel leverguns are just expensive to make.
I thought Marlin went out of business because they were owned by Remington. Remington went bankrupt because the globalist agenda allows lawsuits against manufacturers. Basically suing a car company because someone drove drunk. But it only applies to firearms. New world order. Guns are bad. Mmmmk
The 45-70 ain't no lie ... If your up against big mean nasty critters in North America then look no further. Also carry a 7.5" SAA Bounty Hunter in .44 mag this gives me comfort as well with bear loads. Thanks for a great video
