    This is what I love about trainz unlike model railroading it don't cost thousands of dollars to build your dream railroad on your computer and you can let your imagine go wild and build any realistic railroad you want 👍

    Google maps is your friend. I tend to model shortlines, so often I will go to WATCO, or GWRR or anacostia websites and see what railroads they own. I then simply follow the railroads on google maps and star the areas I like to save them so I can check them out later.

    I am probably going to use some of the little tricks and bits of detail, etc. that you are using in this video, when I get around to actually building my newest route. Right now I am going through the assets, putting the ones that look best to me into picklists (learned about those in the N3V tutorial, and trying to learn copy/paste from that tutorial too.) Unfortunately, there is a limit to the number of picklists that show up in the menu when you want to Change Picklist, as well as the number of items that fit into a picklist without having to scroll down in the picklist. I have placed a lot of items (by type) on boards that I added over to one side of where the route will be, and can actually see the size and appearance of those assets.
    I plan to also use some of the bits of trackwork/scenery that I have seen in your videos of the club layout. I have spent almost 2 weeks so far, just going through the thousands of assets and making picklists or placing them as mentioned above. I only have a short bit of track laid, including engine shop and a yard, but I can tell you that the previous route I built (same name but older version in Trainz 12) took around 2 years to build, and had a lot of areas that were incomplete away from the mainline. At least I am retired, and when winter comes, I will be indoors a lot more, so it should progress a lot. Thanks for all the inspiration.

    I found it interesting that this episode is about what I unknowingly had a conversation with you about ,probably while you were putting the finishing touches on this video.

    Actually NS used to put two engines on the head and the rear of coal trains in my area for mine runs so they wouldn't have to run the engines around the train, also though there wasn't room to do so on many of the trips, but they had been doing that since the N&W days and when I witnessed it it was the early 2000s and they would either use engines on both ends or shove a train caboose first to the mines from the yard

    You should beat those tracks up badly. It'll look so good especially because over where you started in the beginning of the route they are already really beat up.

    I love the build, just with the farmland maybe add a "light" tree-line along the ROW to divide the farms off more (and around the trailer park to keep them private more and use as a sound barrier). I know you're modeling based off of NY state but without the tree lines we have in our area it feels a little like the midwest. Again, love the video. Can't wait for the next.

    for the team track, you may want to put the offloading ramp beside the track rather then the end of it because boxcars unload on the side. Really the only car that would work for the one you set up would be for Autoracks. Great video tho!!

      Oftentimes they have that there for specialty shipments on flatcars, like cranes or excavators or other equipment. A shortline near me has pictures on their website of unloading surplus US Mail trucks off flatcars onto a ramp like that.

    a transload facility in this sort of location, I would think, would be for farm equipment--tractors, combines, etc.

    You don't need as much track as you placed 2 to 3 car lengths for the grain elevator and 1 to 2 car leghths for the team track. The lead needs to be about 10 car leghths to be appropriate for the Co-Op.

    Hello! I just had a quick question. In a previous video, I saw that you used an option called "Object Roll" in place of "Rotate Object". How do you do this? I have T:ANE SP3.

    • @ApproachMedium
      @ApproachMedium  6 років тому

      Use the rotate tool and hold shift on the object you want to rotate.

    I'm building the Norfolk Franklin And Danville Railroad. Look up Cortland VA and follow the line. Let's see who does better.

    how did you get those semi-trucks and trailers on the road way? is that a region or something else?

    • @ApproachMedium
      @ApproachMedium  6 років тому

      It's a different region. I believe it's one made by Dave Snow. Can be a bit demanding on your system so use it wisely.

    Can you gravity drop cars while switching ?

    • @ApproachMedium
      @ApproachMedium  6 років тому

      Eeehhh you kind of can but it's not the best experience in Trainz. There's ways to do it better I think but I haven't dove into them yet.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 6 років тому

      Hey Stan are you referring to a Hump yard where the rail cars free ride shunt to the right consist, if so then they are incredibly difficult to replicate in TRAINZ. There is a way to make a drop while switching in a pick up/drop off location all you need to do is go at a slow speed and break the connection for the car to be removed, and bump shunt a car open the coupler and reverse into the released railcar and it should continue to roll without attaching to the locomotive.

    • @stanleepatterson95
      @stanleepatterson95 6 років тому

      Gravity dropping a car is when you cut car off on a hill. Move power out of the way then release hand brake and car rolls here you want it. Normally this can be way faster then running around cars

    • @stanleepatterson95
      @stanleepatterson95 5 років тому

      Nick Brad For the sake of space in any railroad situation. Gravity dropping of cars is so much faster and takes up such a smaller foot print then having the conventional run around track. As a railroader i just think this practice could add alot more railroading to a small space.

    You must have a VERY good system - I've got a good one and Trainz is an ugly, stuttering mess for me. Worst of all is the developer's removal of the bad reviews on Steam. Thievery.
