Last winter we had the chance to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. This was one of the most infamous concentration camps during World War 2, where Jews captured and squeezed into small and suffocating train carriages with no food and water for days from all over Europe were selected to either be made to work or were immediately taken to be killed in gas chambers. They were told to drop all of their belongings once they got off the trains. Those who were selected to work were stripped of their humanity, by having all their hair shaved, only living by the numbers that were tattooed on their arms when they arrived, and forced to work in horrible conditions with scraps of food and barely any water while fighting to survive the freezing cold winters in Poland. In just this concentration camp, 1.1 million people were killed.
The experience of going to this place and learning about what these people had to go through felt absolutely traumatic and horrifying. This piece is a tribute to the victims of the holocaust, and we hope that the human race never allows this kind of atrocity to ever happen again.
เมื่อปลายปีที่แล้วเราได้มีโอกาสไปดูค่ายกักกันเอาชวิทซ์ (Auschwitz concentration camp) ที่ประเทศโปแลนด์ ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในสถานที่กักกันนักโทษและสังหารหมู่ชาวยิวของนาซีในช่วงสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 มีชาวยิวนับล้านคนถูกจับมาจากทั่วยุโรปเดินทางข้ามวันข้ามคืนโดยใส่ในตู้รถไฟที่อัดแน่นไม่มีน้ำไม่มีอาหารและแทบไม่มีอากาศจะหายใจ พอมาถึงค่ายก็จะมีคนเสียชีวิตไปแล้วประมาณ 20 เปอร์เซ็นต์ หลังจากนั้นจะผ่านกระบวนการคัดเลือก ผู้ที่อายุน้อยเกินไป อายุมากเกินไป หรือเจ็บป่วย จะถูกส่งไปห้องรมแก๊สพิษ ผู้ที่ยังไม่ถูกสังหารจะโดนลดทอนความเป็นมนุษย์โดยการถูกโกนศีรษะโดนสักหมายเลขประจำตัว และต้องทำงานเยี่ยงทาสโดยอยู่อย่างอดๆอยากๆ และยังต้องทรมานกับความหนาวที่ทารุณของประเทศโปแลนด์ ที่ค่ายแห่งนี้ที่เดียวมีคนเสียชีวิตถึง 1.1 ล้านคน
