  • LEARN TO BACK A BOAT INTO A SLIP - How to Dock | Gale Force Twins
Learn to dock your boat! In this video we show you how to back your boat up into a slip. Using a three point turn method to set your boat up followed by backing up doesn't have to be scary! The key to a perfect dock job is remembering which direction the current and wind will carry you and setting up just right! Once you're set up appropriately you can use one motor at a time to reverse your boat smoothly into your slip. Once your boat between all four pilings its time to focus on dock lines. In our situation (which is probably the same for most everyone) the spring line is the most important dock line to keep your transom off the concrete wall! Once the spring line is tied up we go through the rest of our dock lines and show you how and why we set up the way we do!

One of the best tips I ever got was " slow wins the race when docking" You can always add power but slowing down is not so easy....
Sometimes we watch the show, and sometimes we are the show! So I learned early on not to pick on people, maybe help them out docking, because next time it maybe your turn to have the wind or current catch you off guard.
    Good job Girls!

Alright Gale Force instructors - today was my very first 'back into my slip' day! I watched this video like 20x and followed it as close as I could remember - it only took me 3 attempts and I only closed my eyes once... SUCCESS! No boat was harmed, sacrificed, threatened or bruised in the backing up of my boat...lol Thank you for the class!

Really enjoy your vids. 40 yr old dude here that’s been driving boats for years and still suck at docking. I learn a lot from your vids.
Might I suggest mentioning how you tie off your lines to account for the tides so your boat doesn’t get hung. That would be good info as well. Thanks!

I had a 23 foot Crownline until Hurricane Sandy destroyed it, but I was at 2 separate slips during the time I had it, I used to sweat bullets trying to dock it at the first slip and the second slip which was nicer and bigger. I just said screw it and went is bow first. I never did really master docking the boat and provided much free live entertainment for fellow boaters watching me. Anyway, Captains Emily and Amanda you are good and make it look easy.

Hell of a lot easier with two outboards than with a stern drive or inboard. I've watched my buddy back into a slip with with an inboard single prop in a 15 knot crosswind on the first try every try....even with a customer's boat he's never driven before. Truly impressive. Aside from years of experience, the most important is staying calm. Don't panic, don't overreact. For most folks, if you're looking at a bigger boat, 32ft or more, consider investing in a vessel with a bow thruster.
