The pocket clip looks similar to my Benchmade Emissary which I stopped using because the clip and screws aren't flush with the body and always catch the fabric of my pocket. Looks like a great knife other than that.
Hey Tyler. I need a little help on this one. If I could please? The video title calls this the Arcane. You call it the Amicus in the video (along with video graphics). Benchmade has two listing pages. One is for the Arcane Family > www.benchmade.com/arcane-family.html and the other one is simply for the 490 > www.benchmade.com/490.html Both appear to be the same knife. We don't want to call it the Arcane Family Amicus 490 Axis Assist flipper knife, do we? Your webpage, makes no mention of Amicus. What's going on here?
Originally called the Amicus, another company put out a knife of the same name so Benchmade simply changed it to the Arcane 👍. Same knife, different name.
Wish they'd make a good flipper that wasn't assisted. One of the best parts of the AXIS is being able to open/close the knife without touching the blade.
Unfortunately the AXIS lock doesn't really provide the "detent" tension required to provide the type of flipper deployment you get on other knives (ZT, Reate, WE, etc) without the use of an assist mechanism. Regardless, I love this knife assist or no. Would love to see a G10 handle version.
+GPKNIVES I wouldn't mind having to do a little wrist flick to get it the rest of the way. Something like the 300, but with a 3.5" blade would probably be perfect. The 300 is a nice design, but the blade and handle are just too small.
I hear ya. The 781 Anthem is pretty slick, with a thrust bearing pivot. I wonder if they could add a detent ball (similar to the secondary detent used by Emerson) to enhance tension for flipper deployment. I'd love to see some top flippers from US makers but I'm not sure if those will ever thrive in the US market as they have elsewhere.
a fine knife and an intelligent review. thanks for not saying "ambidextrious"
Thanks for watching! I'm always up for correcting bad language habits. =)
perfect size for edc. ....nice and sleek looking. ....sure want this one.
Thanks for that legit overview! The other one I just saw was freaking terrible but I was intrigued and left hanging still lol.
+sirhorsechoker Glad you enjoyed it! The Amicus is a great knife.

👍
Nice! Lock switch below the axis-lock I take it. Interesting steel choice
+ogenmatic You are correct, that is the lock switch under the AXIS lock. I think they went S90V for the wear resistance.

is there gonna be a tanto version of the Amicus?
+Death Bats As far as we know they don't have plans for a Tanto.
