  • In this riding video we explore some of the more unique riding aspects of Umpqua Beach OHV sand dunes. As we turn inwards from our Ocean Side perimeter ride we start to encounter sections with narrow trails. This makes a fun riding experience as we traverse up and down the narrow trails.

Looks like a very nice place to ride.
What's with the fences ? Is that private land on the other side ?

Sadly, just like Pismo Beach down in California, there are environmental activist groups that are trying to shut down riding ATVs on the dunes. Over the years the State Parks department has cut down the riding area. In Pismo it went from something like 20 miles of coastline down to just 6 miles. In Oregon, from what I was told you used to be able to ride from one dune riding area to another but they have closed off the middle areas now. That being said, the riding is still amazing and lots of room to have a great time but these groups are relentless and won't stop until all ATV traffic is gone. That is their goal and people have to stand up and fight these things in the courts to preserve the right to ride.
What amazes me is how hypocritical these groups are. Pismo is now just 6 miles of dune riding and they do all of these mitigations for the Snowy Plover bird. Yet between LA and San Diego there is 100+ miles of beach house development that will never return to nature. Yet the environmentalist target Pismo because Oil / Gas = Bad and so they go after it while ignoring the other 100 miles of unrestorable habitat the bird once had.

@@OddballORV Both of our countries are in bad shape right now with these woke eco freak Liberals running the drug infested shyt show. Fortunately our riding up here is still wide open but fisheries have closed down some of the sand bars in the Fraser River near my home area. I don't ride on the sand bars anyways but what happened was the eco's caught some 4x4 guys driving through the river while the salmon were spawning. NOT a good look. This is also one small out of the way summer vacation town relatively close to my home town that allows ATV's to drive around town with the cops blessings. As long as everyone behaves it will continue but all it takes is one. I've only been there once and we were going over the top of the mountain and down to the town and then back to the trucks using an old abandoned railway line that has all the tracks removed.
They have also restricted the ride to Coquihalla lakes along the old Kettle Valley railway line. It's old tressels have recently been made historic. Lots of history there. I did post a video of that ride called Coquihalla Lakes ride 07/25/21 on my youtube channel.

It is frustrating that because of one or two bad apples, the rest of us have to pay. Rather than just punush and make an example of those people that do cause problems, we pass blanket rules and regulations that impact everyone's enjoyment.
When I go riding, I'm constantly picking up trash out on the dunes. I know a lot of times it's water bottles that fall out by accident but I've also witnessed a bunch of yahoos party it up on the dunes (they camped right next to me) and then leave the next day with beer bottles and trash all over the place. I spent close to an hour picking it all up. Leave it better than you
I've also seen drunk morons ride their motorcycles through mountain ponds and streams turning it into a muddy mess, tearing up the fragile ecosystem. These are the types of people that don't do the rest of us any favors.
People need to start showing some respect to each other and to the environment, that is how I was raised as a kid but that sort of thing doesn't seem to happen anymore.

@@OddballORV Yup -- I know what you are talking about. I see it too, 40 miles back in the mountains and beer cans all over. Logging equipment gets shot up. Clowns shoot up the logging equipment but it's the loggers that make the roads we need to get back there to enjoy the scenery. I know what you are talking about.
