While at my friend's house, I noticed that he had a broken Toro Recycler 21 lawn mower in his dumpster. This is a very common lawn mower throughout the U.S., so I decided to take it and see if I could fix it since my push mower at home also wasn't working very well and I needed to cut a lot of grass.

Once I got it home, I noticed that the pull starter cord on the Kohler motor of the Toro was missing (Kohler is a motor that was installed in a lot of the Toro Recycler models), the motor oil reservoir didn't have a cap, and the gas tank was bone dry. So, I filled up some gas, added oil and a makeshift cap, and decided to troubleshoot whether the fly wheel could still spin by wrapping a rope around and pulling it hard. The trick worked and the lawn mower started right up!
Now I know that the lawn mower works, I will make a video on how to fix a broken recoil starter rope for a Toro Recycler lawn mower. It's pretty simple and inexpensive--instead of throwing the lawn mower in a dumpster or the landfill. This model of lawn mower is a tried and true consumer lawn mower and can usually be fixed. In my case, I just got a free lawn mower!

So, I was over at a friend's house and saw that he was getting rid of some stuff in his dumpster, and one of the things I saw in the dumpster was a lawnmower, and I grabbed it. I looked at it and thought "well, maybe I can get this thing functioning." When I found this lawnmower in the dumpster, it was all folded up, it had the oil cap missing and it was just dripping out oil. the gas was completely empty, and this guy right here clearly no longer has a pull cord, so I decided I'm gonna wrap a rope around the flywheel and see if I can get enough momentum to see if I can get this thing going. So I just put some gas into the reservoir. I added a little Sea Foam to it just in case. I added some four-cycle oil to it and a little Sea Foam to that because why not? It doesn't have the cap on it and it doesn't have a pull cord but the next thing I'm going to try to do is wrap a rope around this and see if I can just pull start it
okay I don't know if I'm going to be able to pull pull this off by videotaping it but what I'm going to do is I wrap this around clockwise and I'm gonna bring it up to here like you would a normal pull start I'm gonna have to hold down the bale, because that's what takes the brake off of the flywheel and we'll see if I can start this crazy dumpster mower sleeve this isn't how I'm normally going to start this thing but this is just to see if this is even worth working on. So I'm going to hold this down and we'll see if I can pull start this while holding this phone wish me luck all right here we go.
Now I'm gonna have to try this I'll show you in a second remember this is just proof of concept we'll see wish me luck
there's a lot that needs to be done on this mower but it's salvageable there's just some observations obviously I'm gonna have to replace the the pull cord because I'm not gonna be able to keep it like this. I need to find a oil cap. This thing seems to be overheating and that might be because of the oil cap it also might be because of the Sea Foam I have in both the gas and the oil looking at the bottom it looks like I'm probably gonna have to do some work on the undercarriage and also sharpen up the blade because it looks like it's been used to mow rocks. I think all of this is salvageable and it'll be a good mower for this front yard we have about an acre and it's kind of a big hill so we didn't want to have to constantly be moving the lower mowers up to the top and vice versa. I'm going to take this as a win, if you like what you watched it really supports me a lot if you hit Like and Subscribe so I ask that you do that but if you don't it's okay stick around check out a couple more videos and see if you want to subscribe then. Thanks!
