I am so embarrassed! I am a retired dressmaker, who had a thriving sewing business for 30+ years, who's often wondered what that black button was for, but I never bothered to find out! 🤭 I even BOUGHT a doohickey to put behind the foot to level it and help it sew over thick seams. I recently was blessed to completely redo a room in our new home for my sewing room, but I somehow misplaced said doohickey, and have needed it several times in the past week. Out of frustration, I googled it, and found your video. "Are you kidding me? ", I said out loud. I have had just what I needed right in front of me all these years! I used your tip three times in the last 15 minutes, and it worked like a charm, even at the start of a bulky seam. Thank you so much!

For years I have been sewing I had no idea that this is what that button does I wish you would make more videos on different feet and what they can do Love the video thank you.

To go over thick seams, I slow down (take foot off pedal) and use the hand wheel / lift presser foot manually (the same idea) until over the thick part

All I use my machine for is hemming my jeans. I always had trouble going over the thick folded seams. After seeing this vid I purchased a new J foot with the leveling button, boy what a difference. Thanks. :)

BRILLIANT - I came across your video by accident. I have purchased a new machine and have this type of foot not knowing what it was to be used for. Whilst researching how to sew through thick material your link came up. What a bonus. I am excited to try it and then tell my daughter who I bought the same machine for that she too has this facility.

Not singling anyone out... But it is amazing how many people who have this foot are totally oblivious to how to use it. Starting at page one of your manual read and apply. Does not matter how many years you have been using a sewing machine...there is always something new to learn. Thanks for the video.

Oh. My. Gosh. Face palm !!!! I feel like a complete dunce after sewing all these years, never knowing what it was for (however, in my defense, I was self-taught & had no UA-cam in the 1980s, LOL !).... I own various machines for different projects, but also for different fabrics - I mostly create home furnishings with the occasional pajama pants here & there - however, my Brother CS6000i never seemed to handle thick fabric well, but I just checked & it indeed has the button on its default J foot; I just tried it with a thick tapestry scrap and HOLY MONKEY IT WORKS !!!! I was often breaking needles & thread and suffered multiple bobbin problems on the thick stuff so I simply resigned myself to bring out my 1970s-era trusty metal machine that plows through anything anytime I needed some heavy lifting. But now I think I can better handle more projects on it without having to switch out, thus saving time and MAJOR FRUSTRATION, thank you so..... Excellent video !!!! Cheers !

I wish all sewing machine are like this then we can use just one machine that can sew everything and it be better for the enviroment for the long hall cause there many sewing machines are old one like mine can't even sew one thick fabric , and to get it fix cost more than buying a new one so is ridiculous, and this machine properly cost a fortune.
