Can you see a theme here? I think that Seiko missed a major trick by not making the SLA017 affordable and unlimited. I also think they have missed a trick by not making a bronze watch of any kind. Hi, my name is "John" Im proud to announce that I been clean for 3 days from watch browsing/shopping.... HELLLLOOOO!
I just received my SM bronze model SN047-Q 2 days ago and I was bowled over by the quality and look. This is truly a beautiful piece. Amazing watch for the price ($225 USD on the SM website...sorry Jody!) It is slightly larger at 43.7mm and has crown at 4 o'clock position, 120 click bezel, leather strap and crystal is flat sapphire. It's running at 0 spd right out of the box. I couldn't be more please and will definitely keep SM in my sights in the future.

If you're going to do these kind of watches, I suggest you get your hands on some Heimdallr watches - the Steinhart of Seiko (TM).

Yes, and have a look at fully lumed bronze tuna with shark logo on a nice thick brown leather strap!
I don't like the corners cut on the similar model (double domed mineral glass). A lot of their watches are too big as well.
heimdallr and san martin are the same watches from the same manufacturer, just rebadged slightly.
Love it already, I don't have bronze in my collection yet, but this one looks very well made for not a lot of money. I bought my first San Martin 6 years ago and I love it....thank you for reviewing this incredible piece...👍👍great value for money.....
Jody I have lost count of how many bronze watches that I have now purchased since watches your channel mainly microbrands, a Zelos & naturally Oris. Still to jump on the Tudor boy fan club, although my wife has just got her Tudor P01 which she wears casually & loves it despite the hate for this model.

I'm happy Seiko didn't make a brass one as it feels less of an homage, but even if they did, the value of the San Martin would make it too hard to pass up!

An Oris 65 is 2000 dollars at mij local AD. This San Martin is a lovely watch. I would buy this if it stayed like this. Don't fancy the patina coming but new it is a stunner.

I think that is the first bronze watch that I like, it looks stunning in green in the sun. Very tempted to buy one.
Thanks for the review, with great content as usual. I was about to buy my first bronze watch, but what put me off is the patina formation that will make it dull from time to time. I love my watches to be always bright and clean. I think cleaning the bezel will be the most difficult because of the geared edge.
If it had a 120 click bezel and smaller text on the dial it would be a winner. My only other concern is the rubber strap. I have an 8.25” wrist and I’m usually at the last hole on these straps. That tends to leave a short tail that doesn’t stay in the keeper.

I've really fallen for bronze watches; the deep red-brown luster, the infinite variability of the patina, the ability to clean and repeat, just wonderful.
I dig it! I agree, the green dial and bronze case are a lovely match. San Martin does a very nice Seiko 6105 homage, an SBDX001, and also a Tuna, all in bronze (though the Tuna might just be bronze shroud and bezel, not sure). In the Heimdallr range there is an SPR Turtle in bronze with different dial and hands configurations, and a bronze "SKX007". Most of these are just north of $200. I'm curious if the water resistance claims are true, as they all say 200-300 meters.
Bronze Seiko homage watches are a real rabbit hole. I also like them a bit more than standard stainless Seiko homages because they feel less like a copy or knockoff and more like an original product. I don't take issue with homages anyways, but the bronze ones have a certain special feel.
Can't go wrong for the price. Most microbrands would charge around $350-400 for that. Leave it to the Chinese...

If I were to buy a bronze watch, I would definitely go this cheap route. I feel like the whole patina thing is about the same as watching it rust over time. All in all San Martin has a nice lineup and they recently came out with a bronze Samurai!
Agreed 100%. I see there is a Proxima branded bronze Samurai with a meteorite dial and one with the MM dial. Simply awesome looking.

I bought this one based off your suggestion in November I think. I went with this exact one I have been very happy with it and the lume on mine is crazy it lasts through the entire night.
Seiko has always done its own thing. I sometimes I think there is a lost in translation issue.
I got a San Martin Bronze type B pilot Seiko nh35 sapphire c3 luminova 39mm dia 200m water resist screw down crown put it on a Blue Shark Nato black for $140 USD and loving it. No markings San Martin on front dial or the back case.
I just received this watch today, What a stunner! The lume is ridiculous!
They look like they’re made in the same factory, but I feel like the Heimdaller 62 looks slightly higher quality
Afternoon from the high desert of Southwestern Idaho USA Jodie 😎 . Just wanted to say thanks and I really appreciate all your hard work and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say I really enjoy the channel. On the flip side of that coin I also have a soft spot for bronze watches and I like the fact it has a Seiko movement but these days the vast majority of all micro brand watches from $50 up seem to have the nh35 in them and granted it's a good solid reliable accurate movement but for the price point on this I'd think that would justify a little better movement than that so hopefully a lot of other people will also mention that and they'll make a revision and upgrade it 😀

I think I actually prefer the Merkur version of the 62mas. It's not as close to the original, the bezel looks more aggressive, and the hands they chose are awesome :D will pick one up for myself after my wallet recovers from Christmas lol.

I just ordered an Ingersoll Scovill Radiolite in bronze. Very reasonably priced and with a miyota automatic movement. I wanted to dip my toes in the bronze watch waters without spending a fortune. It’s a nicely styled piece. At $140 USD I had to pull the trigger on the purchase

Just a hint: these heimdallr/san martin/whatever are a great basis for modding, just upgraded my 'willard' with new hands (a lot to choose from) and a bezelinsert (it actually fits SKX-inserts perfectly) - next up probably a doubledome-sapphire, already looks killer!
Nice alternative to Spinnaker & Zelos. Homage is so faithful that they copied the non aligned chapter ring also!!. Would look better with distressed leather green strap. Nice video as always. 👍
The Heimdallar mas 62 is a better bronze without sapphire but with a Ceramic Insert with lumed dot and it is cheaper and better looking! (i have one blue)

But isn't the Heimdallr/Sharkey just bronze coated? I believe this San Martin is solid bronze.
@@Emaratilfy There ain't no such thing like bronze coated, the Heimdallar and San Martin and all other bronze watches use a alloy called aluminium bronze. They get darker when you were them from a golden color to a dark gold color, with less sparkly shine. They all develop patina from oxidization.

I have been eyeing that San Martin bronze turtle quite a bit for a buy in the new year :) I am gearing up to brave my first muriatic acid bath on a Vostok Komandirskie bezel and case as they bronze up beautifully and I have quite a good sized bottle of bronze plating if it looks a bit pants.

Well I cant say I didn't get a wee twitch in the trouser department when I saw that up close, bloody lovely. Can't afford to get it just now but I'll definitely be saving the pennies for it, might have to lay off the malt to help that along. TBH Seiko are gonna have to work a bit harder for my blue collar watch tastes. Recent “value” releases have left me feeling poor and cold. Not a nice feeling.
My purchase next year will almost certainly be off your “dirty little secret” value store Ali Express. For me they seem to be where it’s at. Your reviews give me more confidence to take the plunge.

I have the domed sapphire crystal. It's cool but distracts the legibility of the watch a bit. Also difficult to install a cyclops on domed curve. My next SM 62 MAS will be flat crystal.
The San Martin 62MAS homage uses a Tin Bronze case. I have bought (and waiting for) a Heimdallr 62MAS which uses an aluminium bronze one. How does the patina effect differ between the two case types?

From a functional perspective, what advantages/ disadvantages does bronze offer as a watch case material vs steel, titanium, aluminum, resin, etc? I am thinking about workability, malleability, degree of hardness, strength/weight, ...all physical properties.

The reason that manufacturers specify a 90 click bezel? To save 0.00001p per unit. still, that paddle second hand means all is forgiven.....
The inverted triangle on the bezel is a deal breaker for me. Otherwise it is a really nice looking watch
Interesting. Not interesting enough to make me want to buy it, but interesting. For those who don't know, bronze buckles are famous for leaving a green mark. Give it a good coating with carnauba car wax & a buff before wearing it!

I really like this one. The flieger San Martin makes is usually $180 and bronze with an NH35, so about $45 cheaper than this model. Either watch is a banging deal though.
Great review as always. If you haven't convinced me to buy the green brass Ventus, I would have probably buyed this one. It is gorgeous. By the way I am glad for my Ventus almost everything is perfect. The lume is not thought. Really sad because is a great looking watch. I catch my self using it all the time.

@@arkiepooIt's a fad and way over marketed. Bronze watches imo are only for a minority segment of the market but some sites are pushing them so hard e.g Zelos has an overabundance of them.

The one thing that puts me off is the dial logo. It looks cumbersome. I don’t like a blank dial, but I’d like something more refined for the price.
