HART 40v Trimmer Head Replacement (about a 40 dollar fix)...

  • The Hart 40 volt string trimmer works well--until there is trouble with the gear head (the part the trimmer head mounts to), or with the trimmer head itself. Hart has designed these things so that no aftermarket heads can be used. However, for less than 40 dollars off Amazon (October 2023) you can get a better gear head which will accept a variety of trimmer heads, making the Hart 40v trimmer as versatile as other machines on the market. I will put links to the parts I used below:
    GEAR HEAD: www.amazon.com...
    UNIVERSAL TRIMMER HEAD: www.amazon.com...
String for above trimmer head: www.amazon.com...
    OREGON GREASE GUN: www.amazon.com...

I have the same Hart trimmer and had to purchase a new trimmer attachment. Then ran into the same problem - can’t remove the old trimmer attachment (why did Hart do this???). Then I searched and quickly found your video. I’m gonna order this new trimmer head and do exactly as you demonstrated. Thank you for this video and links!

You're very welcome! Our machine runs better than ever with the new head. I think the original head had gotten bound up with that fishing line and we just didn't see it. Battery life is a lot longer with this new head.

@@FuelTankerMan That’s good news. I ordered the part and the oil. Arriving tomorrow.

There’s a key hole you stick a small screwdriver in to prevent it from rotating while unscrewing it. Just replaced my HART 40v head with an aftermarket today.

I'm glad you found a replacement... they'd been out of stock for months when I needed mine. I don't know what they charged you, but the mod that I did is about 35 dollars, and worth considering as you have dozens of options for what kind of head you want to install.

My auto-feed head broke a clip that holds the string mechanism. Found the hole and unscrewed the old head. Purchased a new bump head and mini grease gun to oil up my original gear head. Not bad for a $27 dollar fix after tax.

Its not a rivet, its a reverse threaded stud and on the side you put a flat head in and itll spin off. Just did it with a universal kit for 20 bucks.

For the life of me, I couldn't get that thing to unscrew in either direction. I believe where it got really hot because it was bound up with fishing line and creating a lot of drag, it just locked into place.
With the other head, shown in the video, you're not limited to Hart attachments, which I believe is the best way to go.

Key hole on the top of the head...it has opposite threads. Unscrews clockwise.

Mine was totally seized up, it wouldn't budge in either direction. Where that fishing line got around the head, it was dragging bad and heating up, and may have done something that kept the thing from unscrewing... (?)
This mod shown in the video gives you a totally versatile head that works. Hart is really bad about having replacement parts. At the time I made this video they were saying it would be November at the earliest when they got new heads in. And of course you don't need the thing in November. :o
The carbon fiber shaft on my machine broke this summer, and Hart didn't have a replacement. I found a used part on ebay that was steel and made it work.
When this thing is working, it does a great job, but in hindsight I'd go with some other brand, as Hart just doesn't seem too interested in keeping parts available.

How difficult was it to get the original head off of the Hart weedeater?

    • @FuelTankerMan
      @FuelTankerMan  6 місяців тому +1

It's easy, you just loosen the screw that clamps the head around the shaft, then removed the set screw that goes into the side of the old head and it'll pull right off.

I have the bump head style with the same gear box, you cannot take that center metal retainer out, it is non serviceable part. Mine still under warranty, waitng on them now...some Lekisha type awnsered the phone after long wait, she did not know what a trimmer is, so I did open a ticket online and hope someone know anything about what they sell..ZERO parts for anything for sale on their site...that means they don't have it and you stuck with a expensive paper weight. I am expecting very littler help from HART, last time I use these cheap Chicon brand.

You have to remove the entire head from the shaft, gearbox and all, then the replacement parts I link in the description (or similar, available parts) will fit onto the shaft, as shown in the video.
If you can post a pic here (I don't know if UA-cam allows that) maybe I'm not understanding your machine, versus the one that I have (?)
