A tutorial on how to use a cardboard loom to weave device pouches, complete with handle and optional button flap.
If you need a refresher on how to measure and cut your loom:
If your objects are pretty flat, like a phone or tablet, measure the width and length with a ruler. Cut the cardboard rectangle 1 inch wider than the measured width. For a pouch that ends just above the top of your device, cut the cardboard 1 inch longer than your device. You will mark and cut one of the narrow ends, which becomes the top of your loom. Mark and cut every quarter inch, with one mark/cut in one of the top corners 1/8 inch from the side.
For bulky or round items, for instance sunglasses or a water bottle, measure around the object (the circumference) at the widest point. Divide that measurement by 2, and cut your board 1 inch larger than that number. For example, if you want a glasses case and the widest point around your glasses measures 5 inches around, 5 divided by 2 equals 2.5. So add one inch, 2.5 plus 1 equals 3.5. You will cut your board 3 and a half inches wide. The length for bulky items should be the length of your item plus 1 and a half inches.
To make a pouch with a button-flap, add another 2-3 inches in length to your board beyond the original length, and for a drawstring pouch, add an extra 3-4 inches beyond the original length.
For all types of pouches, use the same marking/cutting instructions.
    Thanks for crafting with me!

This is such a great tutorial ! I did not know how you could add a button hole to a bag while weaving. Thank you, for showing us so many options. You are a great teacher !

I am busy making one !
For my cell phone but without a flap (won't be too ambitious the first time).
It is fun and going well.
I did have to rewind a number of times when marking the cardboard and wrapping the yarn.
But all is good and already 1 inch done, by the time your video ended !!

😊Thank you so much for this easily explained tutorial. I'm on my second bag now. The first one was a small one for a cellphone, a wallet or something but now I'm doing a bigger one for a large water bottle and it's going pretty well. Oh and also if you forget which direction to go with the next stitch you can also look at the row below the one you're doing and do the opposite direction instead of flipping the board over. Thanks again! I am enjoying this process of learning to weave.

Firstly, this weaving video is so great thankyou. I am using it to weave strapping. For example, I am going to weave Kevlar strapping in to pouches for titanium plates. I can then attach these pouches all over my body and i can also weave a handle for a titanium shield. In addition, i think thick Kevlar straps are the most suitable for weaving. This is because I need wide straps that are woven tightly as they need to hold five milimetre thick titanium plates.

    Super !
After watching a few videos on cardboard weaving I kept wondering what to use it for, other than coasters or wall hanging.
    Cell phone bag is ideal.
Now I can choose the size of the project and type of yarn (from my stash) for the pouch.

I did this for fun once. I used an even number of cuts on the cardboard. After weeks of messing around finishing it (I made a wooden needle just for it so I could get the weave super fine!) I had a perfect little pouch for my gold prospecting snuffer bottle to hang it around my neck. I took it off, held it up, and it fell in half. And then proceeded to turn into a string again. Needless to say, that was my first and last attempt at weaving. 😢

This is such a helpful tutorial. I've been teaching students in our TAB art room to make tiny pouches with a method like this, but your video has helped us level up!! Button flap and button hole - gaps for a drawstring - crocheting along the top. So helpful!!!

Hi, could you explain how to have enough notches for an odd number of strings on one side and an even number on the other? Like how do I know, is it an odd or even number of notches? I tried 17 notches top and bottom but both sides had an odd number once wrapped.

I've seen bent tip tapestry needles in most big box stores with a yarn isle. You should be able to find a variety of both straight and bent tip tapestry needles near the crochet hooks and knitting needles.

To make a flap could you just fold the loom in half with some space for one side of the cardboard?

    • @jocelyncarlin5803
      @jocelyncarlin5803  3 роки тому +1

That method might work, but the warping process will probably be a little different. Experiment with it. I'd love to see how it turns out!
