- The Bill Dooley Mayfly....This is a pattern which was tyed by Bill Dooley when things weren't going too well but this magic mayfly pattern did it for him on one of Irelands best known Mayfly waters Lough Derg where the fish are not easy and need a special fly like this...
Materials Used;
Hook, Kamasan B170 size 10
Thread, White
Tag, Red Holographic Tinsel
Tail, Natural or Dyed Brown Squirrel
Body, Light Dun Snowshoe

Hackle, Light Dun Snowshoe Rabbit
in the early 1950's Francis Betters published his flies for fishing the Adirondack's called the usual looks like the same pattern with color variation. The resurgence of snowshoe foot wings is crazy.
Really like this pattern, well done.
Fantastic fly, I have lots of snow shoe rabbit dubbing from making flies of different colors. I don't know that I have ever been so aggressive with the wing. I'll have to try it.
All the best to you and your family. God Bless Sean
Another great fly Davie! I'll be adding this to my fly box over winter!!!
Finally I have a use for the Snowshoe rabbit in my tying box!!
It looks like a nice replacement for the double wing grey wulff that I find spins my leader.
I am a convert to these single wing dries, I have stopped using the double wing wulffs due to leader spin/twist.
I will probably tie a spent version by pulling the dubbing loop through the wing, will be good in a fall of spent gnats. thanks for sharing the pattern.
Masterful tying as always!
Very nice sir, I love working with snowshoe! The stuff would float a bowling ball!
Lovely pattern!
One of the pattern that actually works from my experience, nicely done. Thumbs up.
Snowshoe rabbit works so good , I use it for BWO down to #22 and as the wing on an RS2 . Also really good size 16 and 14 dry here on the Madison . Nice tie :-)
Huh. Nice looking fly; if I were a trout I'd at least swim up to see what this was! 👍
Another excellent fly Davie…thanks. Do you have a pattern called a Jersey Herd?
Excellent fly. Can this be used on spring creeks with smaller flies or best on more riffle water?
Fine job as always, Davie. I noticed the omission of the tailing in your materials list. Squirrel, I believe, should be added. Small error in you usual great work!
Chuck
Hi Chuck,
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for letting me know I forgot the tail material in the list...

Hi David!
Very nice video. Could you recommend me any web for buying snowshoe here?
Thanks!
Hi javier arévalo,
There's a few online shops that you can buy from, here is one that I have bought from before and had good service... www.lathkill.com/shop/index.php?categoryID=215
I'm sorry about the delay in getting back to you...
All the very best Davie...
Davie can you post a link on where one can get that nice snow shoe material?
Kind regards ,
Colbee
Hi Colbee,
I bought most of my snowshoe from America where it's easiest to find as it's more popular than it is here. I did a search for you and I did find a couple of suppliers so I have attached a link to one of them...www.funkyflytying.co.uk/shop/products/snowshoe-hare-feet-nature-s-spirit/1234/
All the very best Davie
Nice Fly, Davie!
But Please change Your bobbin, that cracking sound is unbearable!
Hi Ivan Stanev,
I'm sorry about the noise coming from the benecchi spool which to be honest I hate myself, although they do nice thread..I'm glad you like the fly...
All the very best Davie
