The ID3 would make a good small family car in the UK but is north of $35k, but can be bought in China for $16k. Consumers are foolish but not prepared for this monstrous gouge for EVs. China is going to wipe the floor on sales if they market at attractive price points.
True. China will flood the marked with cheaper, but not worse cars in the coming years. Time to sit out that new car investment and see what's being offered soon.
European Union has strict rules for the price. Like, any new brand that wants to sell their stuff here must do so with pretty much similar prices as the existing brands here to avoid "driving competitors out of the market". It is not a free market here, instead it is regulated to simulate "fairness".
The ID.7 in China is not identical with what you get here. Don’t get confused because the have the same name and look. On the inside they are quite different.
Don't be angered by the presumed fact that in China the "same car" is available for half the price compared to Europe. First of all, the cars are not the same. In many cases, they do differ in terms of battery capacity, hardware, material of the interior, options etc. They are also only homologated for the Chinese market and only comply with Chinese standards. Furthermore, they are built in China by the Chinese, who do not get paid European wages. It's all relative. For the average Joe in China, the Chinese ID.3 is probably as pricy as an European ID.3 is to us (the average wages there are much lower).
@@rudolfbruder and that’s of course worth 50% more…..😂 Germans are so attached to their brands it’s ridiculous but it’s the only form of national pride they got left, so I get it.
And they are trying to sell the ID3 at 47000 to 50000 Euros in Europe if you want heated front seats and parking beepers front and rear. For a VW Golf sized car. No, never would I spend so much for a car.
The issue with these collaborations is complicated. Over the covid lockdowns, chinese requirements have very much shifted from the requirements of all other markets. It works both ways: European, US an japanese cars have an increasingly hard time to sell. We discuss about VW having troubles, but it's even worse for Toyota who doesn't have an offer potential chinese BEV customers at all that they could actually like. But also chinese manufacturers have a hard time in Europe and the prices are not so different. The MG4 rivals with the ID.3 and has a very similar price at the same battery capacity.
My first car was a 1959 VW Beetle - I would still have one of these over any EV VW I currenty own a VW UP! which is a reincarnation of the VW Beetle. Great simple cars with no high tech bullshit.
VW in NZ is obscenely over-priced both to buy and to service, There will of course be ppl willing to buy the badge for the status, how strange the world is at times.
ID.3 is quite popular in China. It's among the top 20 almost every month. Secret of ID.3's success (and ID.7's downfall) is price cut. Almost everyone believes that, for this lackluster new model, there will be some huge disount very soon.
@@jancula9 Completely agree, particularly as the Passat starts at £34.4K in the UK. The top of the line version with all the options ticked is still cheaper than the starting price of the ID.7.
Not wanted?! It is the best ID car yet. I want one! It is roomy, comfortable at speed, charge fast and has nice range! The price is an issue for now. 👍
You just keep going on with your negatives about vw and other European ev's, here in Europa especially Denmark, norvay and Germany we will not buy Chinese cars, even some of them it is fine cars, you are sitting with a computer in Australia and get your information from a computer and trying to be Mr justice over the European carindustri, the vw id7 will in 2024 be an enormous success in the businesses segment in eu as the vw Passat was the biggest selling business car in years. I have worked as marketing director for years and don't understand the vw group not have offered you a job ass Ceo, you have the right answers on their problems I am sure that their marketing and juristics departmet have an eye on you. May I give you a proffsional tip: when you are shooting a new video, keep your hands away between your chest and the camera lines, like now the hands have a size as a shovel on a Volvo dumper 😅
Unfortunately EVERY time an European makes an EV, it is a failure ATM! With some few exceptions (Volvo/Polestar which are sort of Chinese, BMW i4 is selling very well in my country and some Mercedes surprisingly). The French are a disaster and that’s why the French government announced they won’t subsidize outside cars: when I searched my EV, I was deciding between VW group, Renault Megane E-tech, some Peugeot and the Tesla MY: all were too weak, low on equipment and much more expensive than the Tesla. I test drove some and they were unbelievably slow and expensive; so I decided for the MY and I’m very happy and I saved quite some money. ATM you have now Chinese competition and most are definitely better options than the European options. Why? Because European manufacturers cartel came too (too!) late (they thought that they would have at least 10-15 years more…) and they are used to have very high margins. That didn’t and doesn’t work.
@@ricarmig I am french, we have tons of Zoes going around, not keen on this car (or any electric) but I have not noticed that these were a failure. At least for the past 8 years. The way Renault is anticipating the future with R&D fully focused on electric while still selling combustion cars, seems a good strategy. If you prefer to buy VW that is just fine with me, after all, they need people to buy 60 k+ cars with miserable trashy plastics, poor multimedia system and ridiculous autonomy. You have an interesting video here, on VW group and the upcoming disaster.
@@Foersom_ exactly my point; it is targeting the exact same market as the Model S, i7, Polestar, eTron, Tavascan, and Lucid Air, without having much to differentiate it from the competition. I wish they had released the wagon variant of the iD7 first for this reason.
Was hoping to change my 2019 Passat GTE for a maybe a 2-3yr old Id7, however seeing as the Id7 rwd with 77kwh battery costs 70.200 Euro in my country, absolutely insane price compared to tesla and the Chinese brand, I will definitely look towards NIO, Byd and others soon
Battery chemistry is not everything. I'm in the hunt for a new EV and recently test-drive ID7 and rented BYD Seal for a couple of days to test it out. I know that in the past VW had issues with software but from my test drive, BYD Seal is even worse. I encountered an issue with charging . Two fast chargers failed to synchronize with BYD Seal I had to visit 3rd location to finally charge it with 1% left which was very stressful. Also BYD ride quality was mediocre at best and sound isolation was almost non-existing at high speeds. Also, Seal interior quality with scratchy plastics is not the best and some panels felt loose. On the other hand, ID7 sailed through the road hands down the most comfortable and relaxing EV which I have tested. But in Europe it comes with a hefty price tag. For me, the choice is still between Tesla model 3 and ID7. Personally I prefer ID7 interior and ride quality but I'm not sure if I can justify the premium over Tesla 3
I just ordered a id7. Tesla was not even on my shortlist, due to the cheap nd boring interiors. I mean what I suppose to do with blinkers on my steering wheel? The price tag of the id7 was huge but in my opinion it was worth it. So lets see if this is realy the case. Delivery time stated with 3 months.
Just buy a Tesla for now. There are no smarter choices at the moment. Also, do not buy an EV at all. They change to fast technology wise. Take it on a lease so you can get rid of it within 3 or 5 years. It’s a very high risk object to buy at the moment.
@@syproful Agreed, lease-to-dump sounds like a much smarter move than holding onto a car that will look like 10+ years old tech in only 2-3 years due to how fast new things get introduced or phased out. Manufacturers are throwing spaghetti, linguine, cannelloni, fettuccine, etc. at the walls to see what sticks, makes sense that consumers would be wary of picking a model with a short-lived combo.
@@onlineaccount The EV doesn't spontaneously cease to exist when its first owner/renter gets rid of it, it will get sold off or rented to someone else if still in sufficiently good working order. As for why change EV every few years, if you are on a lease, your lease is up and you get a chance to switch to a newer EV with likely faster charging, better energy efficiency, longer range, a fresh and likely safer battery, updated hardware all around, etc. If you bought the EV, switching every few years is prohibitively expensive with the massive depreciation. Then again, most people who own EVs today are wealthier and more tech-hungry than average.
@@syproful The technology change is mainly software. Both my Atto and TM3 get regular over the air updates free of charge. Both are different and considerably improved from when we bought them. With the Atto you can submit suggestions for improvement if they get enough ticks and are feasible they get implemented.
Intrusive safety systems that take command of the car is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to fight the car every time I drive it. I don't want every trip to start with me going into the software meny checking off boxes before I drive away! Make streering assist an option, not a default! And fix the cruise control not to brake the car hard out of the blue just because an adjacent road has a lower speed limit! If VW makes cars that makes drivers frustrated every time they drive them, then it should not come as a surprise that no one want's them.
@@Uberhomomanchenn - I really do not care for any reason you gave me. I am a consumer. Consumer. Now, with that being said, for 45K I can fly my family in China for vacation. Buy 2 cars. Ship them to Croatia. And with leftover money, stop in Egipt to see the pyramids.
On my first trip to China in 2015. Legacy Europeans auto makers like BMW, Mercedes VW were considered the desirable cars on the market. However BYD, was considered innovative due to the election drive train. On my next trip in late 2019, you could see the shift towards greater electrification, with BYD, however none of the Legacy brands had anything to offer. In 2023, these Legacy brands seem so far behind, BYD & Tesla in terms of electrification, no one wants to buy out dated technology.
@hlbwlt4867 The technology. The issue is battery longevity. Basically, the battery on most EVs is stuffed after 10 years, making it a throw-away car, even if it hasn't done much in terms of distance. Next, slow charge times, linked with short range, making trips, towing a trailer basically impossible.
@@SunRise-ul7ko there is a study made by netherland researchers, they tested the battery life of random ev. So they found out that the capacity of the battery is even after 10years by around 86%. In theory there are more than 1 million kilometers possible. And for me, 25 minutes recharge time from 20% - 80% is acceptable (fast charging). With around 500km (sorry don’t know conversion from miles to kilometers). That’s why i‘ll lease a ev for 4 years and see how it goes. Wish me luck 😬
@yynorender 10 years ago a normal worker could affort a VW Passat which is the Same size and needed If you have a family a car with 4.75 Meters length was quite standard in Europe. Used Cars are an Option but will not Help VW - so VW does Not Develop fore core customers because China ist more important....
No normal worker needs an ID7, those rolling bunkers are an atrocity to the environment, the eye, and common sense. They are not crash-compatible with regular cars, they have shitty visibility, shitty fuel economy and take up lots of public space when parked.
The problem for VW is when peoples leasing contract ends for their VW ID3, ID4 and ID5 in say 2-3 years.. cause no one wants to have that experience again and goes to another brand.
Totally different story for me. The ID-Software 2.x was a disaster, my ID.4 was delivered one year delayed so I got the 3.2 from factory - and it's hands down a VERY nice EV. Coming from a diesel it feels quite similar if not better power wise. Coming from a Model 3 (in my case) it feels slow - but build quality, software (not just scrolling in navigation!) and other nice things like adaptive headlights are far superior to any Tesla. I almost cancelled my order due to the delay to get a Model Y but they just removed ultrasonic sensors which is an absolute no-go.
@@BeX32210Software is terrible compared to the model 3 and build quality is overstated. VW is not a reliable brand either, apart from their diesel models and the interiors have always been worse than similar cars in their class + higher repair costs. There's a reason folks in China are picking Tesla. VW was way more established and couldn't even win consumers lol. It's over
What variant of the NMC battery is the ID7 using? N80%-M15%-C5%? The ratio of the NMC battery is relevant and would make or break a sale for me if not done right. Tesla has talked about moving to NMC chemistry, with new ratios they find more efficient.
@@shoelessjoe5990 For ID4 (77 kWh battery) it depends on the model. GTX models use a different battery supplier and has higher max charge rate, similar to this ID7.
Sam, your constant badmouthing of everything and your constant nonsense is starting to get on my nerves. Except for Tesla, of course, where you seem to have a lot of shares. The whole thing is very transparent. Maybe you could report on positive things instead of constantly labeling everyone an idiot.
Too bad, it's a nice car. The price in the Netherlands with a 77KW battery pack depending on the version is 65,000 euros. I'm curious how sales will go in the Netherlands.
Many people will not agree with you. Have you seen the car on the road, or in the showroom? Interior has also improved a lot, since the first ID came out. Battery management: also much better. They are taking steps forward. Main issue is the price: it's too expensive.
Who wants to buy ID.7 preorder with the old ID.3 engine? ID.3 facelift didn’t get great reviews either since there was no engine upgrade. Only ID.4/ID.5 and ID.7 got the new more efficient and more poweful engine. This Chinese ID.7 is like ID.3 facelift. Looks new outside but has old tech. ID.3 would sell better here in Europe too with 6.5s 0-100 and 450km range for mid battery. New interior was important, but they need the new tech too to compete. I also expected aero improvements too for the facelifts, but we didn’t get them. Tesla on the other hand landed big aero optimizations to Model 3. 513km range for 60kWh battery is super good.
Well, I don't see why anyone should be surprised. Chinese now can buy cars from domestic companies, which are really good. The only reason why they would buy a foreign car would be if they were better, which was the case in the past. Not anymore. So I do not see reason why Chinese should prefer a german can over a chinese. I think that is natural. French for example are willing to buy even a worse car then they could as long as it is French :))
"7" is one of the "unlucky" numbers in China. "8", in contrast, is a "really lucky" number. The ID.7, therefore, is a no-go for many, and I am not sure how many will think twice before they buy a BMW i7 - I guess it will be significant.
Unfortunately it’s not going to sell in Europe either. There is a great test on UA-cam driving it together with the BYD Seal and the Model 3 Highland. Result, Tesla is the best and cheapest. The real world efficiency of the ID7 was super bad with 2.7 miles per kWh (Tesla 3.7). At least it did good on interior quality coming very close to the Tesla. The Seal had a bad plastic odor and the worst materials. Still for 15k more nobody will buy the ID7. Desperate times for VW
Even with the poor efficiency, is it just that they are pricing themselves out of the market? I mean it can’t be that bad or is it just not what the Chinese want to buy?
@@ouethojlkjn the software is another big piece. The prior versions sucked hard, the one now is much better. But still the voice commands are ridiculously bad. And the reputation sticks for a good while.
Don't ever rely on one single test. Do your own check. I remember all this good test to Dacia spring...nearly bought one by telephone.....and in reality it was worst car ever. Yes...new model 3 is much better than old M3. But you had enough fan boys already with this old really not good model. Tesla' s new M3 still has no parking sensors, auto pilot does a lot of phantom brakes, suspension brakes within 45000 miles. VW 's quality finish in ID 7 is very good. Never ever any Tesla comes close to it. Starting by the seats. To mileage consumption: Maybe it preheated battery while checking consumption. All the the other tests in South France some months ago made applause to very low consumption. Even in heavy rain, 20 Zoll tyres and low temperatures at that time. ID 7 will be at least one class better than any Tesla. Especially after a few years everyone (except Tesla fan boys😅) will see.
They have to cut prices otherwise they will loose even more market share. But that's not all. They even do not offer a fast delivery of the car. They are Nokia. And they still do not know it.
Problem is the Chinese EVs are very very good. I have had an Atto3 for a year now. After six over the air updates it just keeps getting better. Energy costs have been just $120 spent at enroute fast chargers. Service costs so far $0.
I stongly agree on the claim that chisese EVs are exellent or even good. Test that I have seen prove that They tend to have many features that are not working in the level we have learnt them to work in more established manufacturers cars..
@monipenny408 Some do love their badges, and others just love cheap stuff. Even so much that they don't even care that 95% of the chinese cars barely pass the minimum safety requirements to be allowed on the road in Europe, while most european cars score nearly perfect scores.
how can somebody claim “its a sales desaster” only a few days on market?! seems a absolutely clickbate video. We have a saying: “Quality prevails. allways”. I see a lot of people who will never buy Teslas again in their life and are turning to other brands, that deliver more quality and reliability. I think VW will score points there.
I'm currently driving a VW Touran, one of their best family cars. But they discontinued it as an ICE model and also have no comparable EV variant. Would be a huge opportunity IMHO.
In France Chinese cars, excepted Volvo are not good at all. The consumption is high, there many software issues, Translation is horrible, they always beep at you, lane assist is almost useless or even dangerous. There is not enough. They just are maybe ok for the Chinese market. Vw is just paying the bill despite providing a really better car than any Chinese product. They did too much mistakes
Guys, chill out. Only because the first 72 hrs were not very successful, it doesn’t mean the car will flop overall. It could, but we don’t know yet. There are many potential factors for this, one of them that they started only with the 150 kW version. What I see as a massive if ignorance by VW is the fact that you still have to pay extra for features like seat warmers. That’s not okay for the Chinese audience. I think Volkswagen needs to fire some managers whinier responsible for the Chinese market.
Here's an idea, bring the ID.3 and ID.7 Wagon to Canada. We have way too much SUV, having a new EV hatchback options would set VW appart. Audi should have the new Audi A6 avant etron a some point and BMW is coming with the i5 as well but these will be more expensive. We're lacking reasonable priced EV and need smaller EV options.
I think the biggest problem regarding Volkswagen‘s ID family is the design (interior and exterior) you can lower the price (discount/leas/incentive) and you can update the software and eaves the hardware but if the product is not desirable it won’t sell. Volkswagen Doesn’t have the cool imagine of a new brand
Yes, ID.7 sales are a disaster, but where are they, those "much better" chinese cars? BYD sold less than 300 Attos in Germany in November and reviewers complain about poor charging speed and bad software. Perhaps it is a new patriotism to buy chinese, like it is since long time in Germany. If that is the case we just have to accept it. Then it would make sense to invest in chinese brands like VW just announced to do.
I think it is going to be a Hit. Build quality much better than Tesla. We are here in Europe and many people love it and others waiting for the combi (station car). The problem is the service from Tesla and build quality.
the singlemotor version of the Chinese ID7 is only 150kw, even lower than that of ordinary gasoline cars. (European version is 230kw)So it makes sense that this car is not popular in China
They started out with cheap EV in Segment A, the model E-Up in 2013 and sold it until 2021(?). However there is little money earn on a cheap car, so they have focused on more feature rich and expensive models until battery cost comes down. They will sell a cheap ID2 model in 2025.
@@Foersom_ To be honest if you go back to check original press releases, id3 supposed to be a cheap car, the original statement was under 26k after they modified it and said after 30k, but the reality is 46k is not under 30k. And the interior looks like my old plasticky Skoda Fabia.
@@buscseik All car prices have risen the last couple of years, and sadly battery prices has not fallen as expected. You can buy ID3 (56 kWh battery) for 40K € (incl. VAT) in Germany. Only with the large battery (77 kWh) does it cost 47K €. ID4 is a larger car, but price is not so different from ID3, because battery is expensive and it is the same in both models. When Tesla Cybertruck was presented it would cost 40K $ (excl. VAT), now it is priced at 61K $. I guess that means Tesla is "griddy".
@@Foersom_Tesla released cybertruck just now, first models all the time more expensive. ID.3 was released in 2019. Tesla model 3 starts from 43k id3 starts from 46k in Ireland today. And the two car are not on the same level or tier or technology.
Interestingly ID.7 EU price was hiked by 1% this week at the same time reducing (slightly) the offered optional features freebies. But I tend to agree, that it might be overpriced - though (in positive side) it has superior range.
Great looking car but expensive and not efficient enough. Doesnt fare that well in UK comparisons with Tesla or Chinese options, though I'm not sure there's a level playing field when it comes to manufacturing costs. Ultimately some comparisons of EVs are treating them as white goods and not factoring in any deltas to account for build quality or a more premium product, an aspect which has long been present in the ICE car market and which will surely apply again in the EV market once this becomes more stable. Not sure where that leaves VW though; do they have a premium enough badge, and if so, do their EV products justify it?
According to my wife (Chinese), government officials and their relatives hold stakes in all Chinese car manufacturers and their often mediocre products are promoted by „patriotic“ government controlled media. An economic crisis is unfolding in China and they do everything, including lowering their sales prices below break-even, to avoid further layoffs.
referring to car manufacturers as legacy might more helpfully be described as pedigree. Legacy being a term adopted from the IT world used to describe outdated and unsupported platforms. If we really want to see quality EVs universally replace ICE then we need pedigree car makers to be successful alongside new entrants to give us diversity and choice. The point about choice of market is also a little naive considering VWs need for volume sales and the prohibitive barrier of infrastructure requirements.
It‘s a result of the ignorance & arrogance the past decade. They laughed about Tesla, US cars in general, South Korea and China… They stopped innovating. I hope the will turn this around, but it‘s gonna be hard.
@@Foersom_ Yeah, but the US is the much more lucrative market. VW needs to get their head handed to them in China because they are really just that stupid? Go VW. I also think there's typical Chinese shortcuts all over this machine which will make it unimportable to the US or Europe. Maybe VW will prove me wrong on that, if they exist long enough as a going concern.
In Germany they sell the ID.3 for above 40.000 €. In China they sell the far bigger ID.6 for 30.000 € - this is one thing, that annoys customers. The rest to me is the totally flawed design - it is not attractive. The whole ID design is not competitive. How this happend? Well, they guy responsible has been fired already....
The primer paint color your showing us is the ugliest prison grey I’ve seen. But on top of being ugly has terrible stats, and much more expensive, and there is too many alternatives. The old companies slapping it together something with out much market research will get clobbered.
If I was a Chinese consumer, I wouldn't buy a car. If I had to buy a car, I'd buy one of the cars that are half off because of massive gov't subsidies. I wouldn't buy a VW.
These german, japanese electric cars look like nokia in the age of iphone. They are years behind Tesla or even China. German auto industry could be kaput in 5 years.😢
They will probably just start with serious models in 3 to 4 years. Car models we see right now are designed few years ago. They are on backfoot right now with electric, but also tapering the profits in the market massively with their ICE cars.
VW Audi Porsche…when you consider how dominant the Golf was .. Well they had the opportunity to dominate the EV marketplace. Sadly they totally screwed up and now face bankruptcy.
People who drive much do not want a electric car. The chargespeeds are not what they said they would be and the range is most of the time not what they said.
This isn't really representative for the overall development of the ID7. The Chinese have a lot of good choice of their own brands. Why would they support a none chinese product to begin with, giving their own compelling EV car range.
It's surprising to see how people are still being fooled by these chinese scemes. Chinese cars are just barely reaching the required minimum standards to be allowed on the road in the EU, while european models usually score close to the maximum scores, especially for safety. There are more and more reports of chinese cars where the airbags failed in crashes, where the doors all locked and were impossible to open after a crash, and just last week there was one here right where I live that lost its brakes completely while driving... Yes, during tests they perform well, because the test models they send out have been tested over and over again to perform well, but the ones they sell to people are suicide machines. Furthermore, any EV is a data collecting monster, full of cameras and sensors. While in the West there are certain regulations on how to treat those data, the Chinese EVs send all the data back to China (mandatory by chinese law), but China doesn't care about your privacy, so all those people who are complaining that websites collect cookies, but then buy a chinese car, are total idiots!
If you're EVs not a Tesla, there's no functional charging network here in the US. It's an around town car. As such, who cares about range? Just give me around 100 miles and that's fine.
It’s easy, it’s truly ugly. People don’t care about expensive if it looked like the concept. For people who don’t agree, look at cars that sell for double the money, you cannot logically motivate that, it’s emotional and justified by how it looks and feels.
I think it is a great looking car but its soooo big, try fitting it in a regular parking space in Europe.. Its weird it doesnt sell in China since they like large cars and 33k is a steal. If VW want to succeed in Europe it needs to go back to its roots and build a peoples car, an affordable EV just like citroen is doing. The average person doesnt have the money to spend nearly 70k on a car.
The problem is precisely because VW AG has Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and other brands, all de-facto competing with each other for the same EV customers inside one huge company, yet also being administratively prohibited from competing. Take for instance VW ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron. How can any of those seriously compete with Tesla Model Y? ID.4 is priced somewhat reasonably yet too cheaply made, Q4 e-tron is made a bit better yet looks perplexingly cheesy and is hopelessly overpriced. In addition to that, both of the ID.4 and Q4 e-tron have multiple trims. ID.4 alone has eight exceedingly confusing trims! Compare this to model Y: effectively just three trims, with easy to understand, logical emphasis either on value, range, or performance. It appears VW AG has islands of strong engineering and marketing teams, yet they neither cooperate enough nor compete enough. In order to succeed, things need to be simplified, with freedom given to the teams to either join forces or to go their own ways and compete for real.
It's the prices car sales ate done in that part of the world, nowadays its low or no, people also combine dependability. AMERICA DON'T HAVE LOTS OF LOWER PRICED ASIAN CARS YET. 16000 NOT BAD
I find it strange and it's probably the result of the not so good ID3 and ID4 models. Deapite the fact that the ID7 is actually the first proper electric VW.
Can't say I'm shocked it's unremarkable and too expensive, had VW launched this 3 or 4 years ago they probably would have got away with it but now there is too much competition.
Every person I have ever known that has bought a VW since 1978 has never bought a second one due to the poor quality. Now in desperation VW is trying to play catch up with you guessed it cars that cant compete. Why would anyone by new tech from a company that has such poor old tech?
With Tesla FSD beta moving forward to being introduced in China does it make sense to buy a new car that has been developed under the legacy auto maker template? Seems like there is a disconnect between near term current and future convenience and capabilities 😊
Haven’t they talked about tesla FSD for so long now, that it’s like an urban myth? I want to see it go live somewhere before I believe it. I certainly won’t rely on it for the near future to come out.
I feel sorry for for anyone who actually buys Tesla for FSD or even paid for the package, that’s just sad. There is no FSD and there won’t be any time soon.
Dude, Teslas FSD is just the common packet of assistance systems every car company has. Tesla is just blunt enough to call it autopilot. In countries they are allowed to, because in many countries doing so would be claimed as false marketing.
Horrid VW software has crippled their cars and (justifiably) the same with sales. Would personally not consider it here in the US. Randomly unreliable, unacceptable. In China, they have a robust field of cutting edge choices, CATL batteries options, as well as a well developed charge network. VW trails in every way.
Great news. VW have been over rated for years. My worst journey was around 2 miles in an ID3, hateful little car, hideous build quality and daft wipers that are slow to react and wipe the passenger side first! Woefully inadequate as a modern vehicle.
Probably it is not the entire story, but if my opinion was asked why the ID7 doesn’t sell, it is what one can expect if one makes a beautiful id7 CONCEPT car, but completely deliver an ugly factual version of that concept model. Don’t these managers at VW have any emotion by which they can properly assess that the factual version of the ID7 concept and see the total failure, the nose of the car is unbelievably ugly. It looks like a chines designed car from the side profile. Not that I want to insult Chinese cars but this is what comes to mind. It is really ugly from it side. The back is slightly OK, but too high in the wrong areas. But of course: beauty is in the eye of the beholder and as some ugly cars do sell well, many people seem to be happy enough with certain bad rip offs of beautiful designs. So there is probably more than just the aesthetics argument, maybe still the inside design, the software, … who knows. I see this as a classical example of “it is easy to lose a customer and very hard to win them back.” VW did a bad job from the very beginning of their electric cars, the ID3 and they are still trying to recover from that. They should have done more things rightly with the ID3 and then all the later models would have profited from that early success.
I drive a 2022 Volkswagen Golf, I’m not interested in any electric car that VW has to offer, they look 💩 until they build something I actually like they’re dead to me in future!
When I lived - for many years - in Germany, I couldn't help notice how few foreign cars were on the roads! Almost everything was VW or BMW or Merc, or Porche etc. The Germans saw foreign cars as technically inferior. It wasn't blind nationalism driving their choices! I also lived in China for four years - but that was before they had so many car makers building domestic cars. I initially thought that China buyers purchases ARE being infuenced by pride and nationalism, but I now think it is the same motivation as the Germans used to have, - the Chinese EVs ARE better than everyone else's - except Tesla. And that is why VW is failing! And that is a massive change, because there isn't anywhere else in the world that has been more devoted to the 'Made in Germany' image of technological excellence! I think the chinese recognize that whilst Germany and VW WERE experts at car design and manufacture; they see that German engineering has fallen behind the curve in the EV field!
@@oxidalpha6350 If the chinese cars are no good - as you are inferring - then why is Europe and America shitting themselves about Chinese car sales in their regions? You quote indivial components being better than the chinese, which is quite probably correct. But customers are buying the complete car, not just an inverter, and the customers way up the total package of each car versus others, and price is of course a very important part of that decision-making process. Please don't blab on about government subsidies giving them an unfair advantage! ALL car manufacturers around the world get government subsidies! GM and Ford are possibly the best examples of that! The prices of the chinese cars in Europe are twice the price they sell at in China! Why is that? Because European and American car-makers have for decades focussed purely on profit and not on efficiency! Tesla have pulled the rug out from under their feet and price cuts and more efficient designs and production are things that are alien to the legacy car-makers ! If the chinese cars really are shit - and some of them most definitely are, then Westen customers will soon wise up and then it is game over for those cars! But, I think the race to USD 25K cars will kill 90% of the old car makers, and only Tesla and a few chinese manufacturers will make profits at that level!
@@oxidalpha6350 You are not listening to/understanding me! Low price will only work if a product also has acceptable quality compared to more famous, high quality brands. That is a universal truth for ALL products! If people buy the chinese cars and they are crap, then this info will quickly spread and the sales will collapse and their brand will be dead. So, depending on their quality, the chinese have to find the price-point sweet spot that customers will accept. You saying that their cars aren't good enough is the same posturing people had about japanese motobikes and then cars in the 70s and 80s, and then they went on to be the top selling brands in the world! The next 24 months will settle the argument!

False, they won't sell at the same price. All car brands adjust prices to the local cost of living.
European Union has strict rules for the price. Like, any new brand that wants to sell their stuff here must do so with pretty much similar prices as the existing brands here to avoid "driving competitors out of the market". It is not a free market here, instead it is regulated to simulate "fairness".
If I was considering buying an ID7-size car (in Europe), the fact that it was offered at a ~50% lower price in China would not encourage me to buy.

It would sell more than they could produce at 30k Euro too.
And they are trying to sell the ID3 at 47000 to 50000 Euros in Europe if you want heated front seats and parking beepers front and rear.
For a VW Golf sized car. No, never would I spend so much for a car.
When VW have to rely on Xiaopeng and SAIC for technology, why should the Chinese consumers pay a lot more for a VW? The same will happen in Europe.

ID.3 is quite popular in China. It's among the top 20 almost every month. Secret of ID.3's success (and ID.7's downfall) is price cut. Almost everyone believes that, for this lackluster new model, there will be some huge disount very soon.

If you prefer to buy VW that is just fine with me, after all, they need people to buy 60 k+ cars with miserable trashy plastics, poor multimedia system and ridiculous autonomy. You have an interesting video here, on VW group and the upcoming disaster.
Most of these companies keep aiming at the same narrow market, then wonder why there aren't enough customers to go around.

But I‘m sure that a huge percentage of the tesla drivers wouldn’t buy a tesla again.
@hlbwlt4867 I personally think electric technology needs to improve a great deal before ide buy one.
In my opinion there are already ready to drive on a daily basis. What are you missing? Is it more the infrastructure or the technology itself?
@hlbwlt4867 The technology. The issue is battery longevity. Basically, the battery on most EVs is stuffed after 10 years, making it a throw-away car, even if it hasn't done much in terms of distance. Next, slow charge times, linked with short range, making trips, towing a trailer basically impossible.
@@SunRise-ul7ko there is a study made by netherland researchers, they tested the battery life of random ev. So they found out that the capacity of the battery is even after 10years by around 86%. In theory there are more than 1 million kilometers possible.

Yea but tesla has terrible interior and their cars don't look near as cool as this

Yes, ID.7 sales are a disaster, but where are they, those "much better" chinese cars?

Common sense , mount a bigger battery ( 10 - 15 kWh ) for the same money or lower the price .
It‘s a result of the ignorance & arrogance the past decade. They laughed about Tesla, US cars in general, South Korea and China… They stopped innovating. I hope the will turn this around, but it‘s gonna be hard.
$33K EV would probably sell well in the US despite their issues. Funny how it's not available here.
Funny that you do not understand that US is a smaller market, so they have launched it in EU and China first. It will come to US in 2024.
VW is random brand in China in terms of EVs. basiclly VW has nothing to show in tech but old school thinging.
This is a problem with Volkswagen in every market. They cost too much.
The primer paint color your showing us is the ugliest prison grey I’ve seen. But on top of being ugly has terrible stats, and much more expensive, and there is too many alternatives. The old companies slapping it together something with out much market research will get clobbered.
I guess it's a case of "one man's meat is another man's poison", because I actually love the Moonstone Grey.
How can they sell cars half the price in China and still make more money on them?
nice car ! too expensive though
If I was a Chinese consumer, I wouldn't buy a car. If I had to buy a car, I'd buy one of the cars that are half off because of massive gov't subsidies. I wouldn't buy a VW.
In Germany the ID7 cost’s 57,000 Euros ? 🤷🏻♂️
I can't see VW ever going bankrupt. They have the power to remove MEP's and key councillors, they will lobby then simply dispose if they have to.
People who drive much do not want a electric car. The chargespeeds are not what they said they would be and the range is most of the time not what they said.
They fired a visionary. Let them pay.
Most sales of VW EVs consist of fleet sales.
This should have been the ICE Passat 😢
I find it strange and it's probably the result of the not so good ID3 and ID4 models. Deapite the fact that the ID7 is actually the first proper electric VW.
Can't say I'm shocked it's unremarkable and too expensive, had VW launched this 3 or 4 years ago they probably would have got away with it but now there is too much competition.
Every person I have ever known that has bought a VW since 1978 has never bought a second one due to the poor quality. Now in desperation VW is trying to play catch up with you guessed it cars that cant compete. Why would anyone by new tech from a company that has such poor old tech?
It may be back to the true roots. That means cheaper than most. Ev Beetle anyone?
They will make on. The ID.2 will look like a Golf.
Fact is not everyone wants or will ever buy an ev, people dont want them, and they people that do want them have already bought them.
Wow. You really hate VW. Lmao: get your act together.
The ID7s main problem is that it’s already aged…
