He just described it perfectly, it was 1969, I was 13 y/o, it was summer and this song woke me on my music/alarm/clock radio. Thought angels were singing.
Another GREAT in the one-hit wonder category - Mr. Dieingly Sad by The Critters, from 1966. Mel Carter's Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me is quite wonderful, too!! So is More Today Than Yesterday by Spiral Staircase.
Let's add Sugarloaf's Green-Eyed Lady, Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky, Love Grows (Where my Rosemary Goes) by Edison Lighthouse, Vehicle by Ides of March, Rings by Cymarron, Hold Your Head Up by Argent....heck, during this era, too many to name!!!!
The Summer of my first "true love", and this was "our song".......well, actually, it was ONE of them. Fantastic memory of sitting with him in his car under a shade tree in the park, and hearing this song for the first time. He gave me a "promise ring" with 2 tiny diamonds that day! Of course, we would have heard one good song after another on that day, because music was still exploding and progressing at that time, even though The Beatles were nearly over. But, the only thing that kept this song from being #1, was The Beatles "Get Back"! Great memories!
i love your phrase "exploding and progressing". i can only imagine what it was like in '66 & '67 first hearing "paint it black" and "incense and peppermints after just a few years earlier the #1s "dominique" and "there ive said it again"~ lil bro
@@sacollectiblesii - Wow, you described that sharp transition from the early-60s Pop and folk, to the psychedelic explosion, almost like you lived it! Thanks for the comment!
This was one of my all time favorite songs back in the day, and still is today. The lyrics, the vocals, the harmony, and the instruments are magical. Thank you, Harri, for keeping great music alive.
I remember this one, too, but couldn't have told you who did it. I got hooked on reaction channels during COVID and love the nostalgia/memory triggering aspects, but boy, oh, boy, do they ever make me cognizant of the passage of time.
One of the most beautiful melodies -- ever. It's like magic. The performance and production don't hurt, either, but that gorgeous melody is what does it.
OMG! I had forgotten about this one. Beautiful beyond words. Imagine if the spirit of this song filled our world every day. I think that would be called Heaven .....
Jack Sigler, Jr wrote "Love Can Make You Happy" in the Tampa Bay Area. I met him first at his home, if I recall correctly. Jack told me he had been drafted and was in the Army in 1968 when his first studio version with him singing lead was pressed on to a 45 and passed on to radio stations. By Spring of 1969 some radio stations outside of Florida began to play the 45 and "Love Can Make You Happy" began to climb the charts, rising to number two in May and sailing past the one million sales mark that year. To capitalize on the growing popularity when Jack returned from military service he re-recorded with more backup singers onto an album and the group toured. I knew him as he toured with a new band named Mercy because my housemate played guitar and harmonized on "Love Can Make You Happy".
I remember this song playing on the AM radio station, 77 WABC here on NYC throughout the summer of 1969. I was only 10 years old, and I loved this song. I can visualize riding in my Father’s car in Loch Sheldrake, NY which is in the Catskills region. Thank you Sir Harri for bringing back the great memories.
Thxs John for requesting this beautiful song! Loved it first time I heard it in 1970, still do. Unfortunately a one hit wonder but I wonder why. Maybe songwriters didn't come up with the right song, whatever. Great voices!!
I first heard the song in 1969, I was migrating from Jamaica to the USA and I requested theRecord from a friend the lyric is so beautiful still plays it.
Love this gorgeous song. Takes me back to high school days I definitely agree too bad it's a one hit wonder tho not many can say they had a great hit song on the Billboard chart. One of the most beautiful songs ever in my opinion.
This song takes me back to early days dating my husband. 54 years now. You seem to be adept at picking songs for ladies in their 70s. Lol Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada. 🇨🇦
My dear friends. I ran across this song at a record convention back in 1987. I was getting married in 1988. I had to have to have this played at my Wedding reception dance. It was such a precious time. I got it on VIdeo Tape. This song sets the tone for any Wedding! Trust me on this! I even remember I was about 8 years old when it first came out. Its a TIMELESS record.
I just “love” this song. I bought the 45 of it when it was a hit. I played this all summer long. There is a live version of this that you might want to check out. What great memories of a great song👍👍❤️❤️
Man, i haven't heard this gem in a lonngg time. Thanks, Harri, such a feel good song. Such a great era for music. Reminds me of a beautiful, late Spring morning walk, when your heart is filled with love, and wonder.
Harri: Give these youngsters a treat and check out Miriam Makeba (AKA Mama Africa ) and her 1967 performance of "Pata Pata". This song shouldn't get lost in time.
Almost certain it was out in my area in thd spring of 70, definitely not a winter song. Cant remember any more songs by them. This song is such quality better than quantity. Beautiful! 1970 was one of the greatest yrs for music.
I've always loved this song brings back many good memories. Please react to a Band called Smith the song is called Baby it's you, the singer's voice is fantastic. It's a cover from the great girl band from Motown the Shirelles. Thank you
I found out about this little gem over 25 years ago. I used to put in my rotation at broadcadting school in the esrly 90s. My man, it is exactly what you said it is, and some. You simply can't be in a sorry mood after heraring this....I love it. Thanks bro, and God Bless.
Thanks, Harri. They actually recorded two versions of this. The first was for a small local label and then a national label picked it up. But they had them re-record it. Guess they wanted it to be more "professional" sounding.
Wow! I haven’t heard this song in years! John Chu, you keep finding things from the dark recesses of my musical memory and I love it! Thanks John and Harri!🌺✌️
It's like that Jon Anderson song, "Everybody Loves You", and the reason everybody loves you is because you are that ray of sunshine, that beautiful day, which was life in the late 60s and early '70s, before Reaction snuffed the light, for daring to choose peace and love. Anyway, I would be remiss were I to not suggest It's a Beautiful Day's song "White Bird", which was quite emblematic of the times...and quite beautiful too. Peace & Love. db
Hi Harri. If you have never heard this song it is a MUST. 4 black brothers with a white drummer created this ICONIC Masterpiece from the 60’s Psychedelic Era Trust me…. You do not want your life to end without hearing this song. “TIME HAS COME TODAY“- The Chambers Brothers - Album Long version, then Live. PLEASE and Thank You. After you will be thanking me. You’re Welcome.
Other great one hit wonders to check out-The winstons-Color Him Father, The bubble Puppy-Hot smoke & Sassafras and the very strange but cool The Hombres-Let It Out Let It all Hang Out.
I am still waiting for love to make me happy. My cat Oliveoil is the only love in my life. I sure would like a wonderful woman to ride off into the sunset with....
About time someone reacted to this Gem
MERCY MERCY ME, what an auditory gem from the 60s. I love the category of one hit wonders.. this is in the top tier of that genre...
He just described it perfectly, it was 1969, I was 13 y/o, it was summer and this song woke me on my music/alarm/clock radio. Thought angels were singing.
I absolutely love this song, it has love and caring, something we lack today. Thanks for playing it.
Me, too, always thought this was one of the prettiest melodies to come out of the 60s. So beautiful......
Mercy, Mercy me, what a beautiful tune....
Another GREAT in the one-hit wonder category - Mr. Dieingly Sad by The Critters, from 1966. Mel Carter's Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me is quite wonderful, too!! So is More Today Than Yesterday by Spiral Staircase.
Mel Carter’s song is one of my favourites and the first I looked for on You Tube when I got it.
You picked some great ones!

Beautiful song. Sung even better. AMAZING

Mine also!
I remember this song from my childhood, just beautiful
I remember this one, too, but couldn't have told you who did it.
I got hooked on reaction channels during COVID and love the nostalgia/memory triggering aspects, but boy, oh, boy, do they ever make me cognizant of the passage of time.
Such a nostalgic, Heavenly sound. Would be great in movies depicting that time period.
I’ve loved this song since the first time it played on the horrible am radio in my dad’s car
One of the most beautiful melodies -- ever. It's like magic. The performance and production don't hurt, either, but that gorgeous melody is what does it.
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS OF ALL TIME
OMG! I had forgotten about this one. Beautiful beyond words. Imagine if the spirit of this song filled our world every day. I think that would be called Heaven .....
One of my fav songs in the late 60's. We don't hear anymore of this song nowadays. Thanks for uploading, great music.

Pass the bong, I'm back in the 70's again. Wish I'd never left.

Love this gorgeous song. Takes me back to high school days
I definitely agree too bad it's a one hit wonder tho not many can say they had a great hit song on the Billboard chart. One of the most beautiful songs ever in my opinion.
Goes well together with the song Come Saturday Morning by the Sandpippers. .
This song takes me back to early days dating my husband. 54 years now. You seem to be adept at picking songs for ladies in their 70s. Lol Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada. 🇨🇦
I believe you meant to say Harri is very adept at picking songs. Just thought you might want to correct that. 😀
Thank you. Brain slip. Love Harri's channel and selections.

Super sweet song. Pure sunshine.
What a feel good song! Thanks!
Great song for the true romantic at heart.
I was in Junior High when this came out - I loved it then & I still do!
Love this song! It's a regular on my mix playlist.
A Classic! I haven’t heard this in forever.
Another auditory gem from the late 60s I believe. Such great melody and cadence. Mercy me!
👨🏻🦱This song stalled at #2 in the U.S. due to "Get Back" by The Beatles✌🏼😉
This took me back to my kidhood in Detroit.
One of My all time favorites! I play it often!
Man, i haven't heard this gem in a lonngg time. Thanks, Harri, such a feel good song. Such a great era for music. Reminds me of a beautiful, late Spring morning walk, when your heart is filled with love, and wonder.
I think it was a summer release. That’s what I feel when I hear it too.

You’re right. This is a summer-Saturday-morning, sounds-of-birds-and-maybe-a-lawnmower kind of song.
I've always loved this song brings back many good memories. Please react to a Band called Smith the song is called Baby it's you, the singer's voice is fantastic. It's a cover from the great girl band from Motown the Shirelles. Thank you
Beautiful! Thanks Harri! 😎🎶❤
Well said and spot on, Harri. A great song to wake up to!!!!
Been years since hearing this song. My preteen self loved it
Great song

song was haunting to hear on the radio then I get the same feeling 54 years latter it is woven in my being .
Love this song, reminds me of my youth!
Harri I believe the song you’re trying to recall is the Rascals’ song ‘It’s a Beautiful Morning’ from around the same period.
Ummmm,no - the song is "Groovin" by the Young Rascals,so you were very close.
a quintessintial 60's classic
Thanks, Harri. They actually recorded two versions of this. The first was for a small local label and then a national label picked it up. But they had them re-record it. Guess they wanted it to be more "professional" sounding.
Warner Bros did not pick it up, but they signed the band - hence the re-recording for the album
@@pmsfar-outgrooviness8025 thanks for the explanation. I wondered why a lot of oldies stations were playing a different version.
Sir Harri, another great song from 1969, a one hit wonder, was from The Peppermint Rainbow, Will You Be Staying After Sunday.
I remember hearing this as background music. It was either in a movie or commercial. Great reaction Harri
So beautiful, it makes me cry.
Wow. That takes me back.

That is an absolutely iconic gem of a song, SO very OF the time! Great album, too!
Always really liked this record.
Makes me wonder about Walk Away Renee, by Left Bank, a great 60s tune, and I also believe a one hit wonder.
I remember this song. Nice one.
Big hit in the summer of ‘69.
such a pretty song and they were sort of a one hit wonder song

Good pick Harri! I know it's 12 years older, but try to review Need You by Donnie Owens. I'd like to see your reaction.

Mmmmmmmmmmm... I don't know about this one. Still gave you a like anyway.
Here's a clip of them playing it live in a bar in a 1969 movie:

Oh dear! Not great. Glad I missed it tbh. 🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤣
Never knew it was 3 women.
There were men in the group too. I think they picked the picture they thought would sell the most albums.
I thought they were black women?
