I sure miss the flavor a fresh maple syrup. You folks are lucky you get to make your own syrup I know it's a lot of hard work but it's worth it in the end.. I wish I still lived on the farm and we were able to do this. Thank you so much for sharing
Excellent color on your syrup!! I cannot believe how you both have so much energy at 11pm after gathering sap all day and boiling off all that sap. You two are Amazing. Good job!!❤
Strange season, started early February, stopped, then restarted. Most of the sap came in the early part and the syrup was light brown and very sweet. Next year we might do the tubing and a new evaporator pan. Nice cabin you guys have, my wife loves it.
@@waltmoore3095 we debated tubing too! We’re glad we didn’t do it though , it would have been ripped apart and lost from the storm we had last year! If you do put it up, let us know how you like it 😀 glad you’re enjoying the content
You two did an amazing job. So much work, but you two working together made it possible. I love how the two dobies go off together and hang out together. I learned a lot by watching you both. Be proud when you put these jars on your pantry shelves. You both worked so hard to make it happen. Hug those dobies and God bless.
You are exactly right re why the color difference in your syrup. Boil off one batch without adding cold to hot. Excellent both of you. Glad to hear you are going to get a divider tray!! ❤ Such a sweet couple and enjoyable video. Oh Love the dogs!!!
You should really try useing a pre warmer with a valve on the bottom. This allows you to put cold sap in and trickle it into your main pan and it wont kill the boil when you get things right. It really speeds things up.
@@living.different I have used one of those 2gal disposable water jugs with a spigot before. You just cant keep it very close to the fire. Just a trickle into one corner dosnt kill the boil.
It’s awesome what you got going there. And just like everything every year will get better and better as you go and before long you’ll have a amazing setup
Awesome video, making syrup is my early spring addiction also,I love in a town so propane took a beating lol.i did manage to make almost 2 gallons.keep up the good work.hi from Cape Breton
This should help people understand why pure syrup is so expensive. This is one of those things I would personally never do, credit to you both for being so dedicated to making your own syrup. Of course your breaky looked amazing, hard to get much more Canadian haha. Making syrup, cooking bacon on the fire with snow still on the ground and falling.. #keepingitreal
Haha yes it was a very Canadian weekend 🍁 maple syrup is quite expensive , it’s time consuming and definitely a labour of love! We’re already looking forward to next season 🥞
Good job guys! I am curious how much firewood did it take to boil the sap down, a face cord or less? or more roughly? Propane would be expensive theses days.
We used a face cord or less for sure! We used propane last year which was our first season . This is our second year and we will always be using wood moving forward and propane just to finish it! 🍁
We ended up with 23 litres of finished maple syrup. I don’t recall if we alluded to what we suspected our total finished amount would be in this video or not. It tastes great and definitely worth the hard work! Thanks for watching
The Ice in your pails is really just a poor man's RO. There is no sugar in the Ice. If you have a refractometer for sap and melt the ice you will see that there is no sugar in the ice. Saves a lot go boiling time.
I started out that way 12 years ago now sugar shack nice and warm (very) it’s very nice hobby to do in the Spring have fun
That's awesome! We are talking about building this year.

It's so good!
What we do for our sap storage, our barrels are enclosed in a large box packed in snow , shavings around valves. Doesn’t freeze, stays cool.
Good information for next season! 🍁

I think because we were excited on the first day! The second night we definitely had a lot less energy haha 🍁
Just finished boiling over here in Michigan, very similar to your setup including a Doberman. Thanks for sharing, very informative and entertaining.
That’s great! Did you guys have a good season too? 🍁

We were very happy when we stocked up the pantry with this seasons syrup 🍁 glad you enjoyed the dogs and the video!
It’s getting late we haven’t eaten, welcome to syrup season. Lol
Making maple syrup is like a winter tradition in Canada!!
We are in our second year of syrup and it’s definitely going to be a tradition for us! 🍁

The divider tray seems like the smart way to go! Glad you enjoyed the video and dogs ! 🐕 🍁

Yes we did mention that at the end , that we should have another one on to warm so it doesn’t kill the boil! Learning as we go each season 🍁

Just a great family tradition to get All involved lots of work but well worth it.awsome😊❤

Yes, one year at a time! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing love your dogs 👍😊🐕🐕
Thank YOU for watching! 🙏🏼🍁
Your pups are absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Wow, that’s a lot of syrup - yum!
We had a great season! 🍁
Great job! I would just add a warmer on top of the large pan and have this drip into. You’re killing the boil every time you add the cold sap. 👍
We’ve adjusted things since this video and this seasons boil was different 🍁
Love the steamy shots! Nice job.
It was definitely steamy in there! 🍁

We used propane last year too , so we understand lol 2 gallons of syrup is awesome though!
All looks awesome!

Thanks for watching!
Another great video guys! You two are awesome! I really dig the content and seeing other parts of your property. How many acres do you guys have?
Glad you’re enjoying the channel! We have 25 acres at our cabin 😀
Great job 👍.
Thanks! 😀
"aboot, pro-cess, liters" I'm thinking you're Canadians. I might be wrong. BTW- I like your kill cone idea.
@@finallyfriday. very Canadian 🇨🇦
@@living.different I KNEW it!
Lower your sap level down to 1 to 2 inches deep in your pan and add to that. Takes a lot less wood to keep a boil going
That level of sap In the pan would be quite difficult to maintain without it burning 🍁
Boil it down more on the fire ,to just about syrup, lift the pan off to saw horses to drain and filter .
I see a sugar shack build in your future!
There will definitely be one coming at some point! 🍁
Great video as always. Hard work but a great payoff. Did your kids join you at the camp or stay home?
They didn’t come for this video but the following weekend we went up and pulled our taps and boiled another 250L of sap which they came for! 🍁
Good job guys!

So thought we would see a final video. What was the total liters you got and where you happy overall with how it turned out? Cheers

@@living.different Nice going
120 liters of sap boils down to just end up with a 750 ml bottle of syrup? That's a lotta work.
It’s 40:1. So 40 litres of sap equals 1 litre of syrup
The Ice in your pails is really just a poor man's RO. There is no sugar in the Ice. If you have a refractometer for sap and melt the ice you will see that there is no sugar in the ice. Saves a lot go boiling time.
We’ve taken a whole bucket of sap right off the tree and put it directly in the freezer and it has frozen solid
